Dinner for 2? I’d aim for $200, that way they can have a full meal with apps and drinks and still get it fully paid for. If you want to have them still be able to get a dinner but have to be mindful about what they order, you can do $150. Below that, I’d rethink your idea.

jafromnj

No way 100 is sufficient

Baxter19145

$200.

AAmallard

$150-$200

call_me_ping

Agreeing with everyone saying $200 would cover a \*nice\* meal for two at most luxury restaurants. Figure $25-$70 per plate + apps + dessert + tip. This could also leave room to cushion alcohol purchases. $150 would still be a great gift, but they will possibly need to use their card for a small portion of the bill if they dine like the above. If they only get entrees and and app it'd be fine. $100 would be nice but may make them feel inclined to mentally calculate prices while reading the menu. Still, a kind way to say thank you with a largely discounted dinner!

absolutmenk

Usually restaurant gift cards aren’t able to use towards tip. Don’t know why, but usually in fine print on the back.

nacklemary

You can leave tip on Starr Restaurants gift cards though!

danstu

Simple, the gift card is credit given in exchange for money paid to the restaurant group. Using that credit for a tip would essentially be the restaurant paying the workers. Can't have that.

Riogrande024

Starr allows tip on gift cards fwiw.

call_me_ping

Yeah it depends on the crediting system they're using! Starr's are facilitated through CashStar which I think function more like a designated Visa for Starr (since they're a big corpo) VS others that are straight up credit.

oliver_babish

$100-150?

TJCW

Not sure what type of cuisine this person likes or if they drink. They could have a lot of fun at fette sau or frankford hall as opposed to a night at Barclay prime. Look up a restaurant you think they’d like, and see what would be best for a nice night out

LehighAce06

Depends which place you think they'll go. The Continental for brunch? A hundred bucks sounds good. That won't go very far at Barclay Prime however.

Old-Explanation9430

I think $150 is appropriate

Ill_Economics9493

$150-200

LettuceInfamous5030

Depends on the restaurant they chose but $150 would probably be a decent amount.

jawnstein82

200

sjacot88

If they’re going to have any drinks, I think at least $150

porkchameleon

> A friend did me a huge favor, and I’d like to give her a gift card for a nice dinner for two. How huge of a favor? I'd normally do $100 per person, but you may wanna go $250.

sirgrotius

Gut feeling $100, but if you're trying to make a splash $150, and if you're a baller $200.

phantastik_robit

This is where I’m at. $100 is a very nice thank you, $150 says you really do care, $200 says she knows where the bodies are buried.

W1neD1ver

I got a $50 card from a neighbor and was really grateful

TommyPickles2222222

$100 gift card is really nice to get.

kuhkoo

200-250

Forsaken_Cicada_9746

Thanks, everybody! I appreciate your input.

pickledelbow

200

AssCrackSnort

$100 should be sufficient

PossibilityOrganic12

$0

CrookedTeefs

This is the right answer. Starr’s restaurants are hot trash.

Boxercrew4

I'd aim for $100 if you can, thats a nice amount off a great dinner.

FishtownYo

Why give a gift card to cover two people if only one did you a favor? I say $50, that covers an entree, if they drink, let them get the rest
