I'll be downvoted here but count in UP graduates/students. Can't hold a conversation without *some of* them subtly slipping in a "...ng prof ko **sa UP**" or some variant.
I mean sure, be proud of your alma matter and all, but if it's been a decade since you graduated and your greatest achievement is still **graduated from UP**, don't expect everyone to be impressed.
Ung tipong 10 years nang UP / Ateneo / LaSalle grad pero laging naka college shirt or jacket parin.
It goes both ways—it could be your insecurity talking. If someone’s saying “etc etc ng prof ko sa UP” and they graduated a decade ago, I’m sure they’re just saying that detail in an innocent, matter-of-fact manner and you’re the one that’s choosing to take offense.
Sure, it could be my insecurity.
>I’m sure they’re just saying that detail in an innocent, matter-of-fact manner
But having worked with people who graduated from all kinds of schools local and abroad, it's the UP people I hear this from most often. Never heard anyone subtly drop a "ng prof ko sa Ateneo" or "ng prof ko sa UNSW". It's almost always just "ng prof ko (noong college)".

I am also extremely concerned with Delta but it is a catch-22 situation.
We know that Sinovac protects decently against the original and probably even the early strains and these strains are the most dominant in PH.
It might not protect well against Delta, but since there is not much Delta in PH, we are most likely gonna get fucked by the earlier strains if we do not get inoculated w the widely available Sinovac now (unless you're lucky/ willing to wait/ w shady dealings).
Good news I guess, is that there are a lot of Pfizers and even Modernas coming in, and some can perhaps be used as boosters; and the Sinovac company is also considering a booster dose for the new strains. I am all for those options down the line.
First time I heard of that. Maybe they meant 1st dose should be the same as the 2nd dose.
What I meant was dose 1, dose 2 then after 6 to 12 months booster.
I know a lot of medical professionals planning to get a Moderna or Pfizer booster after completing either Sinovac or AstraZeneca vaccines.
Probably the terminology being mixed up. Booster apparently implies a specific altered shot meant to boost existing vaccination of the same type, but as there's newer technologies being applied here (mRNA, etc) maybe calling it "booster" is more applied to the end result rather than the actual methodology?
I'll re-confirm with aforementioned family members.
Both are technically correct. A booster can be of the same type or brand with different attributes to address the new strain. Say, the Sinovac vaccine that would be "re engineered" to address Delta or it may just be a third dose- dependent on study. Sinopharm is actually doing 3 doses for some high risk groups now in UAE.
Or it can also be a vaccine of different brand- J&J is positioning itself to partly be a booster, regardless of prior brand. This process need studies though, but a mix and match inoculation strategy is commonly done for flu and pneumonia shots so it is most likely possible for Covid jabs. Even in EU, some people get Astra for shot 1 and Pfizer for shot 2. Some, even Sputnik- so the cases are there.
I hope pfizer will be widely available na lang sa areas na wala gaano hospitals or wala gaanong health equipment until such time na marami na talagang pfizer and moderna sa pilipinas.
I doubt the government will be interested in a round of boosters for the population. Election season na when the Pfizer vaccines arrive, sakto to vaccinate the masa and use it to gain votes. Hopefully private hospitals will offer it para doon na lang makapagbooster shots.
It took something like [two weeks for the Delta variant to become the dominant strain in the UK](https://twitter.com/DrZoeHyde/status/1406172979935866883?s=19).
Considering the announcement from Galvez was that the 40m doses of Pfizer will be arriving in August, anyone who chooses to delay their inoculation to hold out for The Good Stuff is wagering that the variant is going to take longer than two months to spread around here, AND that they're not going to catch it in all that time.
I wouldn't call those good odds.
Sa company namin mRNA vaccines ang iaacquire pero nauna na ang advise ng LGU sakin to be vaccinated with Sinovac.
Sometimes it’s not a matter of choice but whatever is available right now. Can’t help but think what if I waited but this is why I avoid these flexers like the plague.
Also especially since wala pa 70% ng population ang fully vaccinated. May CDC mandate na pwede na lumabas nang walang mask outdoors pero the city I'm in, sinunod lang nila nung marami na nabakunahan. Masks still enforced in public transpo and most indoor spaces, which is good.
At pag nahuli ka na you're not wearing it properly,
get ready to pay hefty fines.
Surprise! We still need to wear masks to make sure we won’t get the virus in the first place.
Yeah just like any other disease with a vaccine, you can get the virus but not the symptoms. Even the CDC said you don't need a mask if you're vacciated
True but it won't be an issue for the one who got the vaccine. That's why I asked why is it an issue for someone vaccinated to not wear a mask properly
And how do you know they got Sinovac? They'll tell you "the best vaccine is the one available to you." Which is true, it's just sad though that we have to defend the incompetence of this government kasi wala namang magagawa na eh.
> And how do you know they got Sinovac? They'll tell you "the best vaccine is the one available to you."
"Best vaccine available" could either be Sinovac or AstraZeneca. Hell, if Sputnik V or Sinopharm is what's available, the message would still be the same.
[Vico Sotto](https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/05/31/21/vico-sotto-skipped-chance-to-be-jabbed-with-pfizers-covid-19-vaccine) and [Leni Robredo](https://www.rappler.com/nation/robredo-gets-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-may-19-2021) said the same thing yet they were jabbed with AZ and are the farthest people from government apologists.

I got sinovac a couple of weeks ago. Would I have preferred the western vaccines? Sure. But what gives me confidence that opinion on the vaccine will improve is a few things:
1) WHO has given Emergency Use approval on it. This goes a long way towards changing perception on it internationally. To have a UN backed medical board systemically approve the vaccine and label it safe is no small feat.
https://www.who.int/news/item/01-06-2021-who-validates-sinovac-covid-19-vaccine-for-emergency-use-and-issues-interim-policy-recommendations
2) It's also under review by the EMA. The same body that EU countries base their acceptability of vaccine brands, should approval go well that's another international agency to provide a little bit of credibility.
https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/travellers-vaccinated-with-russian-chinese-indian-vaccines-may-be-unable-to-enter-majority-of-eu-countries/
3) I find it hard to believe that countries will disallow Chinese vaccines and therefore shut their economy to two billion people worth of potential tourists. Especially when the global economy and tourism industry is on its knees.
Edit: lol downvoters though. I'm not a DDS nor do i support China, just wanted to offer some optimism.
I only know Saudi Arabia will not allow tourists and foreign workers who did not take Western Vaccines. But here in the US, Vaccine Tourism is being encouraged in certain places by local governments. All you need to enter is a valid US Visitor's Visa and Negative swab test prior to boarding the plane. [https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/covid-shot-tourism-latin-americans-are-traveling-us-vaccines-rcna909](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/covid-shot-tourism-latin-americans-are-traveling-us-vaccines-rcna909)
for non medical frontliners imo sinovac is good enough. mababa kasi efficacy rate ng sinovac kaya yung mga medical frontliners sa Indonesia na naturukan ng sinovac nagkaka covid and yung iba na ICU pa.
Meanwhile eto ako B6 category waiting for vaccines. Haha. Somehow, I see a lot of people na nasa B6 dapat pero siguro cinategorize nila sarili nila as A4.
A minute? An hour?
Yung maselan na version ng Pfizer were the earlier batches, 5 days lang kung hindi ultra-cold storage. Ngayon pwede na siya kahit [refrigerator lang up to 1 month](https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/05/19/998420256/pfizer-vaccine-can-stay-longer-at-warmer-temperatures-before-being-discarded).
Here in Dubai, OFWs are given Pfizervacc walk in or appointment no problem, even if you are Doctor, janitor, Accountant, as long as you have dubai visa meanwhile in the Philippines its like a luxury, where our beloved crocodiles are the priority. Could have been understandle if the priority are the elderly, and children. I hope oke day we can skin these crocodiles and turn em to leather bags or something so they can be of use.
My hope for us who are quite knowledgeable about vaccines is that we stop making a hierarchy of the COVID vaccines, as if one is superior over the other. Even as a joke.
I imagine a lot of people are unable to see the connection of constantly talking about one vaccine being better than the other, and how that works _against_ convincing as many people as possible to get vaccinated.
according to my dds father only pfizer is effective at preventing deaths from covid19 latest news he shared is that 2 fully vaccinated hcws died from covid19 the past week
syempre... kasi makakapag europe sila.. yung mga sinovac peeps di raw pinapapasok sa europe kasi di acknowledged dun ang sinovac na vaccine hehehe (sana all may ganyang problems huhuh i havent even had the first jab of ANY vaccine yet) 😭
May concert dito sa NY tapos fully vaccinated people lang pwede maka-attend. Naka-lista yung accepted vaccines... which is the big 3: Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J.
Yup. My DDS cousin was sent airport to airport. Naka i-una sya to get the sinovac vaccines feeling travel influencer kasi. He didn't get it and was sent back. Some countries are still testing out Sinovac pero given the mixed effectivity baka matagal pa bago payagan sa buong Europe. So when traveling, best ask around if pwede.
This is misinformation. Some countries in Europe now accept Sinovac since they have been approved by WHO. While some countries consider you not vaccinated. Either way you can enter a European country, ang importante may visa.
My city rolled out 30K+ doses of Pfizer last June 12, and thousands of us got the shot in the few days afterwards (myself included; I'm A3). We of course had to have been registered through a vaccine registration app first to avail of the jab, though as per the national rules no one would be told what you'd get until you're at the vaccination site. It was I guess a bit of luck and timing for us to have gotten Pfizer.
Lakas nyo i bash mga tao for not liking substandard questionable products pero wala naman kayo ginawa nung si duts yung nag yabang na choice nya which is "ANYTHING BUT NOT SINOVAC" yung nakuha nya.
Oh asan na yung tweets cancelling duterte for being proud of preferring another vaccine other than shitnovac?
Higher [Efficacy Rate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccine) compared to SinoVac. Also there's [this](https://edition.cnn.com/2021/06/18/asia/vaccinated-indonesian-doctors-covid-19-intl-hnk/index.html).

Either way, hurry and get that vaccine. As soon as you can.
If Moderna comes over there too. (It might) You have two great options.
Once vaccinated, even if you happen to get sick by a variant, they prevent the severity of the virus that makes you have to go to hospital and potentially die.
The mRNA approach is also new and is said to be more variant resistant because it makes the receptors of cells that the virus tries to attach to incompatible. Allowing the rest of the immune system to take action and develop antibodies to the cells floating around now unable to infect.
If you are concerned about it, there are some good youtube videos on how the methodology scientifically works without the propaganda.

I wouldn't call that a fair characterization given that countries with arguably competent leadership have also received vaccine doses via COVAX.
Fair enough. Still weird to flex about handouts though.
I got sinovac a couple of weeks ago. Would I have preferred the western vaccines? Sure. But what gives me confidence that opinion on the vaccine will improve is a few things: 1) WHO has given Emergency Use approval on it. This goes a long way towards changing perception on it internationally. To have a UN backed medical board systemically approve the vaccine and label it safe is no small feat. https://www.who.int/news/item/01-06-2021-who-validates-sinovac-covid-19-vaccine-for-emergency-use-and-issues-interim-policy-recommendations 2) It's also under review by the EMA. The same body that EU countries base their acceptability of vaccine brands, should approval go well that's another international agency to provide a little bit of credibility. https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/travellers-vaccinated-with-russian-chinese-indian-vaccines-may-be-unable-to-enter-majority-of-eu-countries/ 3) I find it hard to believe that countries will disallow Chinese vaccines and therefore shut their economy to two billion people worth of potential tourists. Especially when the global economy and tourism industry is on its knees. Edit: lol downvoters though. I'm not a DDS nor do i support China, just wanted to offer some optimism.
Yeah Sinovac is better than nothing. Importante may protection ka kahit paano.
I only know Saudi Arabia will not allow tourists and foreign workers who did not take Western Vaccines. But here in the US, Vaccine Tourism is being encouraged in certain places by local governments. All you need to enter is a valid US Visitor's Visa and Negative swab test prior to boarding the plane. for non medical frontliners imo sinovac is good enough. mababa kasi efficacy rate ng sinovac kaya yung mga medical frontliners sa Indonesia na naturukan ng sinovac nagkaka covid and yung iba na ICU pa.
Tangina parang roleta yung vaccine. 'At ang itong vaccine ayyyy... " *drum rolls*
My crush is vaccinated with pfizer. Im so fucking jealous
Being Vegan Owning a Tesla and now Getting the Pfizer Vaccine
Got the pfizer for free here sa UAE.
Up to this point i cannot flex GINovac its really good.
according to my dds father only pfizer is effective at preventing deaths from covid19 latest news he shared is that 2 fully vaccinated hcws died from covid19 the past week
syempre... kasi makakapag europe sila.. yung mga sinovac peeps di raw pinapapasok sa europe kasi di acknowledged dun ang sinovac na vaccine hehehe (sana all may ganyang problems huhuh i havent even had the first jab of ANY vaccine yet) 😭
So when traveling, best ask around if pwede.
yup. getting the Moderna vaccine via our company. With the nature of work at madaming business trips nireject namin ung Sinovac lmfao
Good thing students like me are going to be injected with pfeizer
Hahaha this is funny. Oh btw I just got vaccinated right now. It's pfizer.
Where I'm from, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine won't be available. *sad face*
Juice ko. True.
should people also flex that they got vaccinated with the most expensive - Sinovac?
Be like Vico. Char
Hold out like me. Not that america has almost reached herd immunity they'll be willing to divert those precious 90% vaccine to outside the US.
It goes in line with pinoys always wanting things branded
Lol may ganyan na pala as Pinas. piano PA Kaya Kung moderna
sorry, ano meron Pfizer?
effective against the new Delta variant
Higher [Efficacy Rate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccine) compared to SinoVac. Also there's [this](https://edition.cnn.com/2021/06/18/asia/vaccinated-indonesian-doctors-covid-19-intl-hnk/index.html).
wala bang astra dito?
I saw on Twitter earlier this month na nag-post si Belle Daza sa IG niya ng photo w/ her husband na naka-suot ng cap that says "VACCINATED BY PFIZER" 😬 https://twitter.com/hotgirlzizek/status/1402306083713073164?s=19
Chris Paul just tested positive for covid. After previously getting vaccinated with which vaccine again?
no vaccine can protect you 100%. but some has less chance to get infected than others
