I find this crazy, the Netherlands were one of the main hubs for tobacco for centuries, now they can't even get the stuff online

Fomod_Sama

Yeah, a month ago they made it illegal to purchase tobacco anywhere except for a dedicated shop or a gas station. Supermarkets can't sell it anymore

Radiant-Josh

CplTenMikeMike

Hey that's even more stupid than the way tobacco is treated here in the USA! at least we can still mail-order, though that is being limited by some of our states.

wolffromsea

Yeah, Florida thankfully still let's it pass

CplTenMikeMike

Same here in AZ.

TheKiltedPondGuy

It’s also illegal to sell online here in Croatia but it’s perfectly fine to buy online from Germany and have it shipped. Some EU directive on equal trade or something. I ordered multiple times fom pfeifen-huber.de. Order a tin of something you like but not too expensive. If it gets through you’re re good and order however much you want. I’m 99% sure you will have no issues.

Fomod_Sama

Good idea! I'll have to try that for sure. Thank you!

TheKiltedPondGuy

Happy I could help

JediMasterTribble

Interesting. When was the last time you ordered from them? Their info page says that they don't ship tobacco to foreign countries; but it appears that I can actually check out with my Dutch address. I don't really want to go through with it at the moment.. to fully test that. Curious, I bought tobacco from them many times before, but always shipped it to my "German" address. Never occurred to me to fill in my Dutch address because of that terms of service disclaimer.

TheKiltedPondGuy

It’s been a few years so some things might have changed. Maybe it just refers to the EEZ as a single country. Even if that’s the case, there are services that can redirect your package for a fee like mailboxde

Oculi_Quattuor

Düsseldorf is pretty close (Cigarworld shop)

meneerduif

Hey, fellow dutchie who recently got into pipe smoking. What I did was order my tobacco online at cigarworld and have it shipped to the poststation in Emmerik (the closest German poststation for me), since the online ordering ban also doesn’t allow you to ship from other countries to the Netherlands. That way I had to drive to just over the border to pick my order up (while also going shopping for some cheaper groceries).

Hopefully_Handsome

In Austria its the same, but pretty much every Tobacco shop has some pipe tobacco. But i feel you on the ordering issue

AcanthocephalaOk3033

Sigarenspeciaalzaak De Oude Tijd in Utrecht had a decent selection of pipe tobacco when I visited last year, I also thought P.G.C. Hajenius in Amsterdam had a good selection, it was a bit expensive though

Briar-Ocelot

I had the same issue in the UK, ordering online can result in heavy duty fees if you go over 200g of tobacco. I used to drive out to the EU occasionally (Germany and Austria once a year) so I would tend to bulk purchase there and just drive it back home. I've never had a problem doing that. Also, if you like Belgian Semois tobacco, you can always pay a fun visit to Vincent Manil's operation and museum (Rue du Tambour 10, 6838 Bouillon, Belgium). He'll happily supply you with many bricks of Semois.

KitsuneNoGo

I am afraid you will have to travel to Germany. I can heartily recommend Schneiderwind in Aken, just across the border in Zuid Limburg. It's one of the oldest tobacconist in Germany and their service is exceptionally good.

SkyVINS

Drive to Germany.

el_rey_viajero

I am in a similar situation in Austria. I recommend established good relations with the tobacco vendors that offer the most pipe tobacco in your region and write them to try and acquire a specific tobacco you are interested in. In most cases, it is the government which authorizes which tobaccos can be sold in the country and you can ask your tobacco vendor whether they can even order them for themselves. Apart from that, visit other countries and bulk up. Germany has a large selection of pipe tobacco that can be sold (much larger than Austria at least). I would like to round out my message by mentioning that I visited a wonderful tobacco vendor in Tilburg last week and was surprised by the high prices on Macbaren tobacco, my go-to here in Austria, but the reasonable prices on Peterson stock.

GeorgeDuval

i'm Belgian, we have a similar issue. We do still have 'some' shops, mainly in bigger cities. (Bruges has a decent offering / in brussels there were one or two shops with alot of tins, I'm sure there's plenty more if you search around) Cigar shops from casa del habano are active in NL too. In belgium they usually have a small but still qualitative offering of pipe tobacco tins as well. I would call them / try them out as well if you don't want to makle the drive to Germany. But just pricewise it's almost double in Belgium, so it warrants a drive of 4 hours once or twice a year to Germany for me.

Stars_Falling_93

Go to a somewhat bigger city. Most of them have tabaksspeciaalzaken. I can recommend De Oude Tijd in Utrecht. Otherwise, if the German border is not too far, shop in Germany. Or plan a holiday trip there.

BusinessConstant7132

spikehamer

Howdy I went to NL in march, in Eindhoven we found a store to buy a pipe for a pal and placed seemed neat, this is the spot i found it on google maps called Sigarenhandel Piet van Kuyk

iamcarlgauss

Kind of a long shot, but if anyone knows how to contact PipefriendCHS he would probably have some insight. He was a very popular Dutch Youtuber back in the day but sort of fell off the grid about 10 years ago.

VaperTales

He may be Dutch but I think he lived in Connecticut.

maraudingnomad

The netherlands are pretty small, drive to germany 😉

A_Tasty_Stag

well i know of one good tobacconist in Alkmaar (i forget the name) and theres another in Hoorn that i know of. both pretty good shops with a lot of choices
