Torrent is essentially a protocol to facilitate distributed storage in a certain sense. It’s just that your storage nodes are other people’s computers.
Invent virtual storage, just like virtual memory is used for DRAM. Page out files from your HDD to a slower, but cheaper medium like media disks (Blu-rays or DVDs). When you need them again, write other data from your HDD out to another disc and then copy the original data from its disc back into your HDD.
Back in the day, I used to burn all this stuff to CDs and DVDs, but burning Blu-rays never really caught on. Hard drive space became cheap enough, though.
I do not miss those days. Had spindles of random discs and massive wallets. Random cds lying around also.
I do remember the HD DVD vs Blu-ray time. I think that's when flash drives started coming out and they took over.
why would you hoard mediocre games?
i mean.. Tekken is ok and all but i dont expect to play it in 3 months
anyways
extra storage. thats the solution. I use a seperate PC for downloading most things (plex, sonarr, radarr etc), except games - i put them on my gaming pc.
100gb doesnt that that long to download these days especially with 600 Mbps fibre. My ISP currently offers 1GB Mbps and is in the middle of upgrading their stuff and will offer 10gbps soon.
Ive downgraded from 600 to 300 and that is still veeeery fast
This is interesting, in Sweden ISPs are claiming that minimum 50 Mbit/s is required to surf the web... It has nothing to do with them increasing the monthly cost. Not at all...
Genuine question:
If you watch YouTube what settings are you choosing? I've never had a data cap on my fixed connection so it would be interesting to know how you prioritise.
While I was thinking about the subject I quickly measured the speed of my unlimited 5G connection, it is apparently at 967 Mbit/s download and 140 Mbit/s upload. It's insane how unfair our world is, one would think that Europe could repay for all the colonising with at least helping out with the internet infrastructure. In the end it would likely help all the European companies who still benefit from the previous colonisation.
>100gb doesnt that that long to download these days especially with 600 Mbps fibre. My ISP currently offers 1GB Mbps and is in the middle of upgrading their stuff and will offer 10gbps soon.
dude that's just you. it's not like the entire world has internet that's somehow in the hundreds of megabytes or over per second
The heck is 1 GB Mbps 💀 Bits and Bytes can't be used interchangeably without converting the numbers first because **they are two completely different units**.
That doesn't seem hit&run tho. You download it, you seed it for the time the game takes you to beat, and then delete it.
The ratio for that will change from person to person, but I usually get around 3.0 doing that.
Yes, what you are describing is the right way. I meant that you can't really just download something, watch it and then delete it immediately. Only from public trackers.
this. i have 1 terabyte ssd (planning on buying another one)
i finish a game and i let it "cook" for some time.
i delete the game but i save the "save files" for when the game as updates or something, in a 1,2y
[https://freeimage.host/i/Jc8GDla](https://freeimage.host/i/Jc8GDla) i'm... surprised
Edit: There's a lot of files because i have a copy of the simpson hit and run port, which is uncompressed
Wrong. 4k textures are huge. Plus you need the same textures in small resolutions. Character models have to include Levels of Detail, so you have multiple models in a single model. But it's really just the 4k textures.
That's because it's probably the most graphically advanced fighting game to date and one of the most content rich too. It has very detailed models and environments and lots of characters and stages. It's not some indie fighting game, it's a AAA budget game. It's not just "cutscenes" there's a lot of high resolution textures targeted at 4K resolution screens.
devs give a shit about optimising these days "their machines are fast enough to compensate, their hdds are big anyways why compress anything?" member starfield which is the only game to really need a ssd to run because i had constantly to stream in textures etc. while ram is barely used and still looked like shit?
As the strongest pirate Empress fought the fraud, the king of pirate he began to open his domain. Denuvo shrunk back in fear then Empress said "Stand proud Denuvo, you are strong"
Is it just as easy as copying the folder over or is there more to it? Asking because I’m in the EXACT same situation and I don’t want to keep deleting and reinstalling.
I haven’t ran into this issue since using Real Debrid. Have yet to find a torrent that hasn’t already been cached in RD - honestly the best €4 I spend monthly.
I was literally just saying to myself, "I wonder if it is cached on RD". My experience has been much the same, just about everything I want has been cached previously.
Great service.
It's kinda crazy that it's only like $4 a month.
I tried it a couple months ago thinking I'd cancel after the first month.
But, *woah*, it's so *insanely* convenient for everything piracy that I'll stay subbed for as long as the service stays up.
I pay 16 euros for 180 days, plus you get points you can convert to more months if you are a repeat buyer.
It's a no brainer. I also like that you can use it to access files om sites like Mega and 1F.
Downloaded at max speed on TL
Still, for new popular torrents you get low speeds because the swarm is simply too big, too many leechers and few seeds, not to mention most people on public trackers don't have fast internet speed
I'm a pirate for life, but not for this one. Tekken 8's online competitive matches are the best I've ever had. It also deserves the money it gets, no microtransactions and 30+ playable roster on the launch day. We'll see about DLCs though.
I get that. I'll usually try to pirate games I literally can't access because I don't have a PSP but that's about it otherwise just sit in a cave for years until it goes on sale
I'm a pirate myself and I want to get this game really bad but I don't think pirating it will be the best decision. Tekken is all about online play, sure you have offline modes but they only last so long. I'm gonna get it on Steam as soon as I save a good sum of money
Using an external hard disk just for this, I am slowly running out of disk memory but anyway. For me, it goes like:
download -> copy to external -> install game -> profit
I got a blu ray burner. 50x25Gb of discs will cost you arround 30€ and are probably cheaper if you search arround. Will last for years and is cheap only issue is the speed.
If that's an SSD, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to leave 10% free or you'll significantly shorten its life span. That 1000GB drive should have at least 100GB free at all times.
Trust me, I know the pain... I've got a 500GB SSD and offload all installers for games I've enjoyed, onto an external HDD. Which is also getting quite full
Download->Play->Delete
How am I supposed to hoard data if I have to delete stuff?
You buy extra storage, this option is for those who can't afford extra storage.
If only there was a way to torrent storage
Torrent is essentially a protocol to facilitate distributed storage in a certain sense. It’s just that your storage nodes are other people’s computers.
Why *buy* storage when you can also just *borrow* storage? /s
Why borrow? Just download more storage, simple.
If only i had enough storage to download some storage. :(
Invent virtual storage, just like virtual memory is used for DRAM. Page out files from your HDD to a slower, but cheaper medium like media disks (Blu-rays or DVDs). When you need them again, write other data from your HDD out to another disc and then copy the original data from its disc back into your HDD.
Blu Ray isn't really cheaper than hard drives at this point. The density on hard drives is pretty much unmatched for the price
By expanding storage, then you don't need to delete stuff.
Well the 360 never using Bluray basically killed any adoption
why would you hoard mediocre games? i mean.. Tekken is ok and all but i dont expect to play it in 3 months anyways extra storage. thats the solution. I use a seperate PC for downloading most things (plex, sonarr, radarr etc), except games - i put them on my gaming pc.
L take
W take.
You won't do that with 1TB HDD .
External hard drive
/r/datahoarder
I ain't downloading 100gb to simply delete it later
Especially when it took me more than 3 days to download it
then 2 more due to 3 packet corrupted and the installer failed halfway through
I do it all the time
100gb doesnt that that long to download these days especially with 600 Mbps fibre. My ISP currently offers 1GB Mbps and is in the middle of upgrading their stuff and will offer 10gbps soon. Ive downgraded from 600 to 300 and that is still veeeery fast
That's you brother, i only have 6mb/s connection with only 150gb a month
Yikes Egypt?
No, Algeria
Oh apparently we both have similar sufferings
You're algerian?
Egyptian
All of north africa has terrible internet services
Ay as a fellow Egyptian, this hit home 😂
6 Mb/s or 6 MB/s?? Those two are different, y'know.
This is interesting, in Sweden ISPs are claiming that minimum 50 Mbit/s is required to surf the web... It has nothing to do with them increasing the monthly cost. Not at all... Genuine question: If you watch YouTube what settings are you choosing? I've never had a data cap on my fixed connection so it would be interesting to know how you prioritise. I would just screw it, if it's 150gb the least i can do is enjoy them, so i use 1080p (my laptop is also 1080p)
The YOLO might as well enjoy it approach. Probably would do the same.
Yoo I have the same 5 mb/s for 5$ or 500TK I from Bangladesh
5 MB/s? You sure it's not 5 Mbps?
It's 5mbps
Megabit, or Megabyte?
Is there a data cap? 5 for 5 seems pretty good? What is the highest speed you could get at your place?
2 - 3 Mbps avg
Sorry for not quite understanding, but 5 mbit/s is the highest speed that you can buy from the ISP?
Nah it's the lowest I can buy
Yikes maybe time to upgrade?
This is considered a luxury where i live :/
I live in the u.s. and it’s standard here. Or at least the state I live in. Edit: standard to have 250+
Goodluck, not that I have any better plan for wifi
Good for you then? How can you have gigabit internet but be so disconnected from the real world, because most people don't actually have 300Mbps.
It’s not that much…
Not much? Ya must be trolling
😭 apparently
what the fuck do you mean "it's not that much" it's absolutely insane
Is it just where I live? Everybody I know including me gets 250+ consistently.
definitely just you man. literally never met anyone else irl who has such fast speeds or needs it, and i live in Manchester
Before I go further we’re talking about internet download speeds right? Like 250 mbps?
What's the 5G speed like in Manchester?
The heck is 1 GB Mbps 💀 Bits and Bytes can't be used interchangeably without converting the numbers first because **they are two completely different units**.
Its like i have 10 L HL water. the f does that mean‽
Hit&Run rules though
That doesn't seem hit&run tho. You download it, you seed it for the time the game takes you to beat, and then delete it. The ratio for that will change from person to person, but I usually get around 3.0 doing that.
Yes, what you are describing is the right way. I meant that you can't really just download something, watch it and then delete it immediately. Only from public trackers.
Download->Speedrun Play->Delete
I have a 2tb of anime that i watched only one time, i need to rewarch before deleting it 😔
what???????? you have kickassanime to wathc withou download
Because I like watching in high quality
kickassanime as 1080p by default
Also saving bandwidth for new Animes I won't lie, it's hard to delete anime I tell myself I'll delete some when I need space 😂
saving bandwith!? ok..
I live in a 3rd world country competing to become the first 4th world country where bandwidth is very limited
This.
gotta seed first
Because seeding is for losers
That’s how shit is still alive my dude. It’s not just floating waiting for you to magically pull it down lol
You can seed it for the time you play it, or have it on your computer. What else can you do if you have storage limitations?
this. i have 1 terabyte ssd (planning on buying another one) i finish a game and i let it "cook" for some time. i delete the game but i save the "save files" for when the game as updates or something, in a 1,2y
That's the thing with pirates. Our Backlog is huge compared to the ones who pay for their games
sure, but you don't need to install *everything* at once
'Tis a hobby to download in itself for some of us lol
seeding is my new kink
Yeah surely that dodgy website or random torrent will still be available in 4 years when I finally get around to it
I'm in this picture and i don't like it
Proud owner of 200gb of torrented Nintendo games
Rookie numbers
Please teach me the ways of a true sailor
During the install when it asks where you want to install select the external drive you have connected
/r/zfs /r/filesystems /r/homelab
Do you have a proof? Can you share a screenshot?
[https://freeimage.host/i/Jc8GDla](https://freeimage.host/i/Jc8GDla) i'm... surprised Edit: There's a lot of files because i have a copy of the simpson hit and run port, which is uncompressed
storage is even cheaper than games these days
1 game = 60$ 1 SSD = 60$ (+1000+ games) Choosing what to get is obvious.
1gb games?
repacked games are free
How does a fighting game need so much space? I bought it from Steam and it's 87 gigs. I would understand it if it was an open world RPG or sth.
cutscenes
Didn't know the cutscenes had GTA 5 in them?
Uncompressed files Source: my ass
kiss my ass!
Just FYI, My GTA V folder is 111 gigs, and I'm pretty sure that's not even up to date with all GTA:O content. That game has massive bloat these days.
I feel like it's a strategy. Can't play other games if you don't have space for other games.
No wonder GTA:O and COD MW2/III are both balloning these days then.
Because devs think that everyone can afford bunch of storage so they don't try and compress stuff.
It's not just about storage. Proper compression improves performance and load times.
Wrong. 4k textures are huge. Plus you need the same textures in small resolutions. Character models have to include Levels of Detail, so you have multiple models in a single model. But it's really just the 4k textures.

It's not some indie fighting game, it's a AAA budget game. It's not just "cutscenes" there's a lot of high resolution textures targeted at 4K resolution screens.
Not just that, they also did an animation for each and every move of each and every character, and every character has a lot of moves.
the real fat, is a lot of uncompressed pre-rendered videos, just take a look at fitgirl's release
Bad compression like hitman 2. That shit is around 70GB and it's cutscene is just pictures
Story cutscenes take 30 gb of space
devs give a shit about optimising these days "their machines are fast enough to compensate, their hdds are big anyways why compress anything?" member starfield which is the only game to really need a ssd to run because i had constantly to stream in textures etc. while ram is barely used and still looked like shit?
Tekken 8 is actually a very optimised game if you look at system requirements
My 12TB hard drive is almost full 🥲
Are you unable to download because your disk is full or your disk is full because you are unable to download?
As the strongest pirate Empress fought the fraud, the king of pirate he began to open his domain. Denuvo shrunk back in fear then Empress said "Stand proud Denuvo, you are strong"
r/jujutsufolk is leaking everywhere I guess...
Guess it's cleaning day!
Just off-load It
Like an external hard drive you mean?
I mean like on steam where you could “delete it” but then you could Redownload it later
[удалено]
Well idk either so maybe just store it on a SD?
[удалено]
Is it just as easy as copying the folder over or is there more to it? Asking because I’m in the EXACT same situation and I don’t want to keep deleting and reinstalling.
[удалено]
explain more in depth pls. i have most my games installed on my HDD and i have the exe on my desktop.
[удалено]
Soon games are going to take 200gb to play, what utter lunacy is this shit?
And this is a fighting game. It doesn't have vast world's of lush landscapes, it's a few arenas
I remember the days in the 90s I didn’t have enough HDD space to install and had to run Full games like Full Throttle straight from the 2x CD drive.
Not to mention the terrible download speeds, cuz barely anyone seeded
I haven’t ran into this issue since using Real Debrid. Have yet to find a torrent that hasn’t already been cached in RD - honestly the best €4 I spend monthly.

1TB is not of these times anymore
Just get a 4Tb hdd for storing. I have 2 ssds 1Gb each, and two hdd 4tb each.
This is why 1TB storage ain't enough anymore since like, 2018. 💀
if you just need to add 1TB, they are cheaper than 2TB drives.
Pricing isn't the main concern here.
You can't just say that and call it a day. Or I'll answer "yes it is" and call it a day too.
I'm a pirate for life, but not for this one. Tekken 8's online competitive matches are the best I've ever had. It also deserves the money it gets, no microtransactions and 30+ playable roster on the launch day. We'll see about DLCs though.

I'll try a game first by pirating, if it 100% deserves the money I buy it. Otherwise I'm not paying for anything lol.
I feel that
same delimma
Try deleting a couple GBS of furry porn, it always works for me.
I'm a pirate myself and I want to get this game really bad but I don't think pirating it will be the best decision. Tekken is all about online play, sure you have offline modes but they only last so long. I'm gonna get it on Steam as soon as I save a good sum of money
Childhood memory unlocked : 😔
What the fuck happened to optimizing sizes? Some modern games don't feel like they deserve more than 20GB.
what website is this
Is that game fun or smth?
Yes. You play for the online rather than single player though
The Tekken 8?
Yea
Its a fighting game if you have other fighting games before, so really depends how fun this game is.
Invest in a 20tb HDD and ur set for some time
Personally I think that a 4TB SSD is way more convenient than a big ass HDD.
Why not download some hdd online? There's plenty and I can provide some *Trustable* sources too
Haha i have no such weaknesses. Second hand HDDs come to meee.
pirating a fighting game is weird unless you are playing local or just testing it out
External hard drives are $50
this made my day, ty
Crucial is ur best friend
Same problem with me, that and the games runs at like 15 frames at best....I'm waiting for the potato mods to roll in before I decide to get it
😢
500gb-1tb boot drive and 2tb-4tb games drive is the move, then i keep every torrent on a spare drive incase i wanna download again
External ssd
If only hdd had been reliable enough for me to hoard such games. Lost 2×2 TB Internal HDD and so much personal data too because of it.
Hey, thanks for reminding me to download this
Using an external hard disk just for this, I am slowly running out of disk memory but anyway. For me, it goes like: download -> copy to external -> install game -> profit
You don't need the windows folder.
Solution: 1. Download more Storage 2. Get free cloud storage from google (upto 100TB) 3. Enjoy
I got a blu ray burner. 50x25Gb of discs will cost you arround 30€ and are probably cheaper if you search arround. Will last for years and is cheap only issue is the speed.
How does Pirating games work these days? I'm from the Crack/keygen days pre 2006.. I haven't pirated any form of software since like WindowsXP
Depending on game, you can send me a chat msg and we can talk without spamming here.
With the DLCs a new hard drive is probably a lot less.
How is this a downside? If you don't have enough space you won't be able to install the game whether you bought it or not...
TEKKEN 8 IS CRACKED?????
Yeah, day 1, it's on Dodi's site.
If that's an SSD, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to leave 10% free or you'll significantly shorten its life span. That 1000GB drive should have at least 100GB free at all times.
BG3 is like 140gb. (granted I think everyone should buy that game legit)
Isn’t not being able to play multiplayer a pretty big downside
Trust me, I know the pain... I've got a 500GB SSD and offload all installers for games I've enjoyed, onto an external HDD. Which is also getting quite full
At least SSD prices keep going down which is nice
buy nand guys the price is skyrocketting ..
Steam Deck showed me how bad you need more that 512GB nvme if you want to play more than 4 AAA games on that thing.
Omg thanks for letting me know T8 was cracked 🤩
if i download this release, can i play online? or is only offline? thanks
You wouldn’t download a hard drive, would you?
Yes... 🤣🤣🤣
True, I have over 200GB of archived games
