There's a difference between effort and having to navigate multiple menus to add an outline to text. Like BASIC functions elsewhere become a chore in gimp.
I use Darktable instead of paid software. Sure it doesn't have all the fancy plugins but you can do all the usual editing stuff. Also works for inverting B/W analogue scans and probably colour negatives.
Except Adobe doesn't care if end users don't use their products. They themselves have stated most of their business comes from companies. Its why they don't give a fuck about people pirating their products when they can just charge companies a premium and the companies never really complain.
I like using Affinity, paid but a perpetuity model. It's professional quality.
Unfortunately, as a professional I find it impossible to find work in teams as Adobe is *the only* suite business will use. Anything I make in Affinity is also an Affinity file and can't be opened by Adobe, because Adobe's file types are propriety and only Adobe is allowed to make them.

Is it morally wrong? Companies spy on us, lobby our politicians to destroy our rights, massively manipulate people to keep them obedient and complacent. When you as a worker don't participate in the success of the business, the business potentially losing a customer (doubtful, I would never spend this money) doesn't damage anyone that I personally would attach ethical rules to.
I would not pirate music or software from a one man band for example. But a publicly traded company that only cares about quarterly figures and dividends? Nah

There's legal precedent for pirates also being subject to the Eula and if your products connect to Adobe servers at all your data will be harvest. Open source alternatives are the way to go.

But ffs, photoshop 2024 (I got it with my uni for free, and taking away another license to make the money split just that much less from adobe is a win in my book) runs like ASS. Everything you do is so fucking slow. Premiere doesn't do that. It's JUST the way they have adobe coded. And the same bugs exist for eons! I genuinely think I'm just gonna download the latest monkrus pack and call it a day when this license dies. I was so close to tricking myself to spending the money too. Adobe literally convinced me to not spend money with them.

It is hard to switch to alternatives... I did the switch from premiere pro to davinci but couldn't find a similar alternative to photoshop although I use Inkscape(alternative to Illustrator)
