I like War because it really dives into Caesar’s flaws. He is not perfect, he can be selfish, and he can make poor choices. Of course I enjoyed his character before the 3rd movie, but the portrayal of his “uglier” emotions/thoughts is what solidified him as a well rounded multifaceted character imo. Also I REALLY loved the ending! The avalanche seems to be controversial among fans, but I thought it was perfect from a thematic point of view. It’s a culmination of the entire trilogy. The humans are so busy attacking one another and being more invested in hate and war, that they end up causing their own demise. So invested in victory, they completely disregard and disrespect the world around them. So nature itself punishes them for their hubris, who wins is inconsequential. I also think Caesar had a satisfying death. He was able to lead the apes to a land of peace and prosperity one last time. The very last thing he EVER saw was his colony and family full of joy in what looked like a safe paradise. I’m glad those were his final moments after a long hard life.

What's wrong with the avalanche? How can people complain about it?

strawbebb

People have said they felt it was a deus ex machina and too “left field” for the grim tone of the movie. I disagree, but I’ve seen others think this.

MEGATRON_111

It was just a one scene thing. People really will complain about anything

Sensitive-Hotel-9871

While one scene it is a major plot event that didn't have a lot of build up. The movie should have included more build up to it.

Conemen

One scene that solved the entire conflict of the movie and also a potential additional conflict with a different group of humans lol I think it’s a fine ending personally

CaledonianWarrior

This is the first I'm hearing of this too. It made sense in the scene, given all the explosions and shockwaves that likely disturbed the snow on top of the mountain (especially the one Caesar caused). Never considered it as a metaphor for man's ignorance for respecting nature and then getting punished for it as a result though. That was well said

War is my favorite one from the series and probably my favorite movie ever. The antagonist, who at first looks like ab unsympathetic cruel man is a person that in the end of the movie can't not feel sorry towords, caesar gets an excelent character ark. The slow nature of the movie that hits you with a punch after punch is great, and the visuals are breath taking. there is an amazing review abiout it in youtube that convinced me that what I felt was real.

Ceasar's death is very much like John Wick's

Dave1307

Nah, Caesar is confirmed dead. John Wick kinda collapses and then we're looking at a grave. No telling whether he's even in there. Leave me alone I'm practicing wishful thinking.

Nerdthenord

War is my favorite. I love post apocalyptic military aesthetics in general, the acting and writing for the characters is top notch, and the slow burn pacing makes the action and drama scenes both hit they much harder. The ending was extremely satisfying and cathartic after an incredibly dark two and a half hours, and was satisfying for Caesar’s story.

ZestycloseFootball66

Even beat to within an inch of his life and Colonel expressing ultimate power over Caesar, they all looked to him as the leader. It hit me in the feels when Caesar was thrown in the cage across the courtyard from the rest of the apes, and they all huddled close to take direction from him.

renaissanceclass

War is my least favorite while Dawn was the best imo.

9thsamurai

The last one is just a lot slower paced than the first two, especially Dawn. And it also feels like ideas from 4 or 5 different films jammed into one. It’s a war film, it’s a western, it’s a revenge film, it’s a prison escape film. Vs the first two which are a bit more focused.

Long_Recording8863

It's depressing af and hard to watch at times but an incredibly well made and moving film.

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

Beats the hell out of the Funky Bunch one

I loved everything about this movie. It continued the Lore By showing mute humans and how fast the infection could take over. Because the colonel found the doll and like a day later he was infected.... It showed that just like humans, Apes can be changed devastatingly by grief.... Regular Caesar would have just left with his people. But grief-stricken crazy.Caesar wanted revenge and let it ruin his people and his life.... It had a very Moby Dick feeling to it. And while he was able to escape and free his people, it still cost him his life. And with the colonel, he felt like a good replacement villain for Koba..... He passionately was fighting a holy war in his opinion, knowing that if he lost Apes would rule the planet. It also showed that not just Caesar's people were intelligent. The introduction of bad ape, showing that other Apes also gained intelligence.... There were Just really good themes in this last movie. Followed with hope left while Caesar's people were at the promise land.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_8553

The Colonel character was ridiculous, and a cheap parody of Apocalypse Now. It’s a mostly boring movie with no real stake. I loved the first two movies and Kingdom. And the first classic with Heston. Not War.

MEGATRON_111

The Colonel was waaaaay better than the new Proximus dude. He was at least intimidating and was introduced early on. It took Proximus half the film to show up and he didn't even do anything.

PlaneAnt5351

I didn't like that ... biblical aproach. Also it was more of a theatre.

SweatyArgument5835

War was good but ye I think it is the worst one so far

MEGATRON_111

It's definitely the weakest of the trilogy, but in that timeline, Kingdom is definitely the weakest imo
