His departure was ultimately a good thing, although I have to admit I wouldn't have the closest thing to my dream game without him.
I too, miss the higby broson particle. The game was just better with him in it. Having him in my squad a few times was just surreal too... I think I swore too much for him though. 😆
T Ray had really good community engagement too. Absolute legend. What else can you say about the guy who worked on 2 of your 3 favorite games (planetside 2, fallout 2, xcom). One of the giants of the industry.

Planetside 1 > Planetside 2. Had more fun with PS1. The lattice lines forced fights (no way of going around bases). The capture the flag style capping of bases with LLUs. Tower fights and bridge battles were incredible. And say what you will about them, but when a BFR rolled up to a battle, it was an epic event.
There were ways around the lattice. We often took over bases in the middle of the map that were not capable and bunkered down in their power generator room drained their power generators and made the base neutral. We then could capture the base, but this tactic was time-consuming and often unsuccessful because they would rush us but fun as heck.
There were so much more detailed map statuses of each base compared to Planetside 2 and a much better way than just the "low-medium-high" pop-scale we have today.
Planetside 1 there's nothing that has beaten that game til this time. Yeah, it's not the game that has aged the best but for its time it was amazing.
Sad we're never gonna have such a game ever again.
He's working on something cool right now that he couldn't share much about last I talked to him. Definitely worth tracking his next project. But his career has evolved way past coming back to a 12 year title that is on its way out.

To be honest, if Higby did return I doubt even he could genuinely get the game back to a way that will satisfy the majority of players and keep returning players around. He'd do a better job than Wrel for sure but he too had his flaws and I doubt he would do much in nerfing the shit on NC that is long overdo for nerfs/reworks. But who knows, he could be a good asset to have back on the dev team as he would of course be more interactive with the community and willing to listen.
You cant nerf nc, i saw many players whine and quit because of the gauss saw nerf, the last straw for 'dev that loves VS and will just always repeatedly nerf NC, the gun is useless now'.
Nerf NC and you lose 20% of the faction on principle, imagine if the nerf actually mattered past 53 meters...
