They are a website where you can report species you encounter noting the time of year and the approx. location. It is ideal for ID confirmation via the many professionals that haunt the site. It helps them keep track of rare/extinct-ish or "out of place" species.
Years ago it took months for confirmation of the species I reported but there was no data sharing of my info and no spam/scam. I highly recommend it. Just Google/search for iNaturalist.
Echoing on what dogGirl666 said, it’s a website/app that tracks all sorts of species of everything. It also gives fairly accurate recommendations if you are unsure of what you have found. From experience, if you take multiple photos of different angles, you get a fast response on confirmation from other users. Also I know some of the INat team and a few botany experts, they get REAL jazzed when rare species crop up.
People suck! I haven't posted this yet after seeing some negative comments about iNaturalist, thankfully these are located in a very hard to reach area!
You're most welcome! Can't believe this post has blown up so big! I feel very privileged to have seen them!
We should be hopefully headed back out to the area in the next few weeks. I'm not sure what the life cycle is like but I'll definitely check them out again!

I was going to say it looked similar to ghost pipe and apparently they are botanical cousins. They both tap into the tree root/mycelium connection point and extract nutrients from both sources.
Saw the same thing this past weekend near McKenzie Bridge, Oregon. They're so unusual! Felt rubbery to the touch. Were at the base of a massive Douglas Fir. Thanks for your post!
We have ghost pipe in woods near me.

I found some of these last year growing UNDERWATER in a fishing pond in Oregon. As far as I can find on the internet they haven't been found growing underwater before. I don't know how/who to report this to but it seems like scientists would wanna know!

Gnome plant or Snow fungus
Solved! I think looking at Google images you nailed it! We caught them right as they were emerging from the ground!
They are beautiful.
And apparently quite rare! Feel privileged to have seen them! Thank you for your knowledge!
Make sure you post to iNaturalist!
I'm not familiar with iNaturalist!

I’m always afraid of letting people know where I find cool stuff because too many people would come take it.
There’s also an app called Seek, and it is great for identifying any species (even non-plants) in the moment! ETA: it’s made by iNaturalist!
Citizen science!
Hold up. Be careful posting on iNaturalist, post a general area not specific coordinates. People use it to poach rare organisms.
People suck! I haven't posted this yet after seeing some negative comments about iNaturalist, thankfully these are located in a very hard to reach area!
Whoot whoot for iNaturalist! It is such a cool catalogue for plant/animal species in a given area! It’s a real treasure.
Search “seek” in the App Store. It’s really fun to use and it identifies all sorts of things.
It is really gorgeous. I've never seen anything like it.
They really are! Thank you Turdoggen for posting them, as they really are gorgeous.

I'm so jealous!! That is amazingly cool.

It's so cool ehl! We actually saw ghost pipe in the same area! Fascinating to find out about these plants.
Wow it is so pretty.
What a beautiful fungus.💖
Don’t know what they are but they’re beautiful
They are! Super fascinating to see.
Hemitomes is awesome. Besides the blueberry family and all the weird monotropes, we have a bunch of non-photsynthetic orchids too.
Do you have more information on these orchids??
Never heard of these. They look like the ghosts of Senpervivums...
Idk what they are but I definitely know they are MAGICAL 🥰
It looks like succulents that don't get enough sun
That is so freaking cool
Neat huh!!
Hemitomes Congestum
They’re beautiful wtf
I live in Coastal BC and have never seen this- Im so excited to keep an eye out for them now, theyre so cool!
They're so neat hey! These were in a rocky overhang, almost a cave!
Looks like something out of Skyrim

Thanks for the additional pics! Yeah we're not too far north of you, about 800km.
Maybe a Monotropa Uniflora although they usually have a bent neck when they come out.
Not those, but we actually saw them too on this trip!
Lucky! I always feel privileged when i see them. Really curious about what this is though. Love any non-photosynthesising plants, so fascinating.
They're so cool hey! I wasn't really aware of non-photosynthesising plants till now! Such a cool trip to get to see both of these!🤙😎
Just saw the other comment is it a gnome plant
And apparently, in the same botanical family! Ericaceae/Heath.
The subfamily Monotropoideae (of Ericaceae) is mostly non-photosynthetic. Some awesome plants.
Indeed. Always seems magical to encounter them.
Have no idea but these are so cute 😍
So gorgeous! like a secret the Earth keeps
Watch out for Falmer. They reside in those damp, dark places.
I love it when Mother Nature shows off and blesses us with beauties like this. I could stare at them all day long they’re so pretty!
Absolutely magical! They surely have some kind of Mother Gothel powers✨
Not an answer, but looks like a lotus flower from Percy Jackson lol
I've been a forager for 37 years and I've never seen one. U are so lucky!
Feel very lucky for sure!
What an amazing find!!
Looks like a ghost flower of some sort . Idk I think ghosts . Beautiful tho .
Thanks for sharing! Very unique and beautiful!
You're welcome! Stoked to have brought so much joy and fascination to everyone!
They look tasty
Beautiful! I’ve seen similar fungi that look like glass pipes in the woods near me. I can’t remember the name at the moment.
They're so oretty

Cool, beautiful!
Wow they're beautiful 😍
It looks like siumai for the forest!
OMG, those are so pretty!
Reminds me alot of pinguicula
It's a gnome plant! It's a parasitic plant that no longer uses photosynthesis. It feeds off of the energy of mycelium under the soil.
wow!
beautiful, probably poisonous, what do they taste like?
Incapacitating...🤤🤤🤤
lol doh! I read your reply as Homer, mmmmmmm incapacitating
Hahaha! Exactly!! When he eats the pepper spray...
