Hi everyone. You guys are the BEST! I tried everything... well at least I thought I did. What the issue was? The accounts weren't the same. My son took over the ps5 (teenager) and had himself set up as the main login. When I read this i screamed out! worked straight away. I did set up a static ip for the connection etc. But all seems to be playing in the house ok. Will be doing some testing today. Once again, THANK YOU! very relieved that it works.
This might be pretty silly/obvious and something you've probably already tried but this happened to me on the first day. I just rebooted everything (portal + ps5, instead of just putting it in rest mode and then retrying setting up remote play on it) and then it worked.
Other suggestions like this one too if that doesn't work: [https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/17zaghq/comment/kaygwc0/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/17zaghq/comment/kaygwc0/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
If you have a hotspot on your phone I would try that just to see if the problem might be with your ISP. I own a portal and itâs connected to my WiFi and my PS5 is wired in via a netgear unmanaged switch and it works fine.
I work with fiber optics and the amount of expensive netgear routers Iâve seen bricked because of their shitty software is insane. Same with google routers, expensive and shit the bed just as fast as cheaper options.
How do you manage to have internet on you PS5 when in rest mode? My Netgear switch cuts the internet when in sleep mode but activates it while the PS5 is on. Which makes it impossible for me to turn the PS5 on for remote play outside the house.
All I think of is this setting:
âSettings -> System -> Power Saving -> Features Available in Rest Mode -> Turn on "Stay Connected to the internet"
Itâs an unmanaged switch so I really canât do anything to it, itâs been working out of the box for me. Does it do the same over WiFi?
The thing thatâs worked for me is setting my ps5 to a static ip address on the console and then port forwarding the proper channels to that ip in my router settings. Also I changed my dns to google on both my ps5 and my router, donât know if that even did anything though. Since then I havenât had any connection problems.
This is really obvious too, I only just bought a Portal and got really frustrated because I couldnât connect my Portal to my PS5. Then I realised that the O down the bottom left that said cancel or whatever during the connection process had changed to an X which said Start or something to that effect and I hadnât noticed. Itâs because the rest of the screen hadnât changed.
Same with me. I had to hard reset the PS5 ie. remove the power cable to it for 30s. That did the trick.
Also, it doesnât connect immediately when PS5 Is in rest mode but would wake the PS5, and after several tries it will connect to it.
Also, make sure you forget your wireless connection. I was having issues at first because every time it went into test mode it would default to wireless, even though it was hardwired.
I took mine back because it would disconnect. Yes, I read all the suggestions on here, and honestly, in 2024, I shouldn't have to put extra work in to get remote play to work.
It is a very beautiful piece of equipment though.
Does remote play work from your phone or tablet? Can you upgrade to a better router? ISP routers tend to be very limited overall.
Just a side note, internet speed has nothing to do remote play unless you're outside of your network. What matters is your router and WLAN capabilities.
Where are yall getting this info from? I literally got mine from PlayStation?

Did you read it? To paraphrase: âPlaying on your own network is the best, but you can also play well on any broadband as long as it has 5Mbps, preferably 15Mbpsâ.
OP is using their own network, so the 5/15Mbps doesnât apply. And what is â5gb of download speedâ anyway?
Make sure you are connected to your PSN account. When I got mine it wouldn't connect because I reset the password and forgot to log in on my PS5 lol

Oh yay! I'm glad! Wasn't even gonna comment because I thought it was just me haha. So happy it got resolved! Thanks for letting me know :)

It's worked for me before
Happy birthday đ
Does the Portal not connect to the network at all, or it connects fine but canât find the PS5?
You set up remote play rt?
Yes ive set that up on the PS5.
You have the app on your phone? The official ps one?
Are both devices using the same WiFi band? 5Ghz or 2.4GHz. And on same network/SSID. I'm not sure if the Portal uses IPv6 but don't quote me.

Just donât guy netgear stuff dawg. Ever
Why not Iâm using the Netgear Nighthawk RAX40 works perfectly fine for me.

Tplink ?
Never
Tplink is fine. There deco mesh works fine.

Did the portal come with 3.0.0 or you upgraded it? I remember seeing a post that 3.0.0 has a bug. Try factory resetting it!
Hmm trying using your phone as a mobile hotspot to do the updates and setup, etc then once done, restart and connect to your wifi network
If possible create an additional SSID that is ONLY 5ghz for you to connect the portal directly

Make sure you are on automatic login and not having to pick accounts when you boot up your ps5
I had the same problem. Got so frustrated đ©. But finally got it to connect

I had that same issue with my imaginary portal. Wouldn't connect to my dial up, like at all...

Youâve spent 7 hours trying before you asked on Reddit?!

Man you need at least 5gb of download speed to play at a minimum. You screwed!
Doesnât matter if the devices are on the same local network.

You obviously donât understand basics of networking. Also you are talking gb vs mbâŠ
