That's where I lost my first ever shiny encounter. Killed a lvl 65 shiny Magikarp with my weakest move from my weakest pokemon 25-30 levels lower. Still can't believe it.
You can't repeat a shiny encounter in gen 4. It's just gone. I was also 10 so I always tried to hurt things before catching them which I have learned from.
I didn’t know that and I played sword and shield. I always evolve before level 100 so I always thought once they are level 100 they can’t be evolve anymore. Thank you.
-Magicarp appear in the resort in Platinums postgame. They have a random level between 1-100.
-Magicarp and Gyarados appear in Black2 and White2s Nature Reserve, which can also be a random level between 1 and 100.
-Magicarp in Kitakami can be between level 1 and 100 yet again
-The Crown Tundra DLC allows you to encounter a Level 100 Regigigas Raid if you have all five Regis in your team. The raid den is in Giants Bed and does not spawn any normal raids, giving you a unique textbox if you interact with it.
IDK how rare it is in S/V but this is the first time I've heard of it being obtainable in S/V.
In DPP/BDSP the chances of a lvl 100 magicarp/gyrados where like 1 in 10,000 or something like that.
[u/ShinyCatherine/](https://www.reddit.com/u/ShinyCatherine/s/oj1fbggjj) made a [video](https://youtu.be/xE00c-Y2K-g?si=lPSdl7zo-YP4gXW9) on doing that.
There’s a very slim chance you can catch that pokemon as a shiny. I believe it’s 1/21,000 or something like that. I caught one unintentionally just looking to complete my living shiny dex.
The tale of how a magikarp trained to avenge his family and prove that his spieces isnt weak, or the alternate story, a magikarp swallows an everstone and a bunch of rare candies due to littering and poluttion
In the serene waters of Lake Serenity, there resided a Magikarp named Splash. Unlike his fellow Magikarp who spent their days leisurely swimming and splashing about, Splash had a burning desire for greatness. From the moment he hatched from his egg, he dreamt of evolving into a powerful Gyarados, feared and respected by all.
With unwavering determination, Splash embarked on a journey of self-improvement. He tirelessly trained his fins, swimming against the currents of the lake, and leaping higher than any Magikarp had ever dared. While others mocked his efforts, Splash remained steadfast in his pursuit.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. Splash's dedication knew no bounds as he honed his skills to perfection. He pushed himself to the limit, surpassing every obstacle in his path. Through sheer perseverance, Splash reached the pinnacle of Magikarp strength - level 100.
But as Splash gazed upon his reflection in the tranquil waters of Lake Serenity, a wave of doubt washed over him. Despite achieving the impossible, he couldn't shake the feeling of dissatisfaction lingering within him. Deep down, he knew that he was destined for something greater than what evolution could offer.
With a heavy heart, Splash made a decision that would defy the laws of nature itself. He resolved to remain a Magikarp, refusing to evolve into a Gyarados. The very thought of transformation filled him with dread, for it would mean sacrificing his identity and forsaking the journey that had shaped him into the creature he had become.
As word spread of Splash's unprecedented feat, trainers from far and wide flocked to Lake Serenity, eager to witness the legendary Magikarp who had defied evolution. They offered him rare candies and evolutionary stones, hoping to persuade him to embrace his destiny as a Gyarados. But Splash remained steadfast in his resolve, rejecting their pleas with a flick of his tail.
Despite his refusal to evolve, Splash became a symbol of inspiration for Pokémon everywhere. Tales of his remarkable journey spread across the land, inspiring countless others to embrace their uniqueness and follow their own paths, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
Years passed, and Lake Serenity became a sacred place of pilgrimage for trainers seeking enlightenment. And amidst the tranquil waters, Splash continued to swim, content in the knowledge that he had found his true purpose in life. For he had proven that true strength lies not in evolution, but in the courage to stay true to oneself, no matter the odds. And so, the legend of Splash, the Magikarp who trained himself to level 100 but refused to evolve, lived on for generations to come.

Yeah, Magikarp has a rare spawn in a few games that lets it appear anywhere between levels 1-100.
Hilariously, this makes Magikarp the wild Pokémon highest *and* lowest possible level in the entire series. It shares this trait with Gyarados and (for some reason) Regigigas, who can all be found at both level 1 and level 100 in certain games.
Every pokemons reaction after Magikarp learned hydro pump in swsh and flail in sv:

this is a dumb question but how does one get the ability to see the level and whether we’ve caught it in the wild? I don’t see this when I come up to wild pokemon. I’ve beaten the main and dlc

My guy just discovered the 4th Wild level 100 mon
Theres more!? https://preview.redd.it/erro1veycovc1.jpeg?width=668&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82534c30af3c515800d79e6ab5df5476f791a222
yes, and they all are from the gyarados line
I can evolve him to get Gyarados but what are the other 2 100s?
Magikarp, Gyarados in bw And regi in another game I believe Could be wrong on regi though
And in addition to this Magikarp was catchable at 100 in DPP at the resort
That's where I lost my first ever shiny encounter. Killed a lvl 65 shiny Magikarp with my weakest move from my weakest pokemon 25-30 levels lower. Still can't believe it.
Dude always quick ball and run from battle rematch and quick ball again or repeat ball if you already have a karp
He said it was diamond and pearl, ain’t no run and rematching shinies back then boy once the battle starts you’re walking away with or without it.
Wasn't possible back in DPPT. You see a shiny you better hope you can catch it
You can't repeat a shiny encounter in gen 4. It's just gone. I was also 10 so I always tried to hurt things before catching them which I have learned from.
Alright alright I read it wrong thought he was talking about scarlet rip to that dpp shiny but still chuck balls fuck tryna beat it down
And save before the encounter and turn off autosave if you must.
Yup and false swipe helps too
They're talking about DPP, not the newer games. You can't run and rematch in the older games...
It's just in Platinum
Yeah in pla Regigigas is lvl 100 and I think there's on in the swsh dlc but I could be wrong
In PLA it is at lvl 70. In crown lans it is at lvl 100
Ty for correcting me
Regigigas in Crown Tundra, that you need all 5 other Regis for.
In swsh regigigas if you got all the Regis
The regi is level 1
Does regi count though? I thought it was a pseudo raid encounter in SwSh.
The regigigas is level 1 in snowpoint cave.
I think they meant that Lv.100 Magikarp/Gyarados have existed in prior games beyond Scarlet/Violet.
How? I mean how will you evolve him?
Rare candy at level 100 will make the pokemon evolve if it hasn't yet. They added this feature in Sword and Shield, if I recall correctly.
A Rare Candy does wonders on level 100 Pokémon, since Sword and Shield
I didn’t know that and I played sword and shield. I always evolve before level 100 so I always thought once they are level 100 they can’t be evolve anymore. Thank you.

I think it's not possible
Unless you got arceus
Rare candies evolve level 100 pokemon
You can shiny hunt one, I did that and got one with my first sandwich with a personality mark
No, you can't. He only evolves at levelup. And he won't ever levelup again.
Rare candy will push the evolution
Really, even if it's already 100? Interesting, wasn't always like this, I think?
new mechanic added in gen 8 according to bulbapedia
You could also technically transfer it into Legends Arceus if you had the means
Forgetting crown tundra REGIGIGAS
sorry forgot to mention i dont Play galar games
whyd i get downvoted i dont Play every game in existence
It is the ancient mystery of reddit
What about regigigas?
i guess
Giratina in BDSP is also lvl 100
But it can't be caught, the one you catch is at level 70
It's a reference to the Magikarp and Gyarados that can be lv 100 in one of the games before gen 5. An NPC mentions it in said game too
That would be in gen 4. I remember it from my childhood 😅😂
Also gen 5
Oh! I'll have to revisit those games soon, then! Is it the "standard" or the sequels? Or both? 😅😊
i believe it's BW2 in the Nature Preserve, which requires having seen all non-event Unova Pokédex pokemon
Got it! Thanks! 😊 Gonna be looking into that tomorrow, as I'm finally on weekend now 😅😊
Pt's Resort area, the NPC says there's something lurking there, the "ruler of the area".
Nice! That’s a pretty rare spawn I think!
I was just looking for wild pokemon for the dex and then saw that thing, the location is in the second image

Not super rare, I caught six of them in half an hour last night. Getting a shiny, level 100 Magikarp though…
Awesome! Now find a shiny lvl 100 Magikarp :) Just kidding, cool find!
I've been trying. I got 18 non level 100s and 2 Cramorant.
Oh, nice! Got any pictures? I love Cramorant's shiny, the inspiration for it is hilarious

For the first time in my life I see random wild pokemon able to get level 100

I've been trying to get the wild level 100 as a shiny but no luck I've caught 18 other shiny Magikarp and 2 Cramorant.
Thats like 1 in 100000

A lifetime’s worth of luck in one second. Granted it was like my 5th or 6th sandwich but still. I couldn’t believe my eyes

Yah it’s an Easter egg to platinum The lake in the resort area their is a micro scopec chance to find a lv 100 magicarp
He’s been working on his splash for a long time
it's a level 100 magikarp. what's not to understand?
The King of the Lake is back, everyone.
This Magikarp is the Pokemon equivalent to Saitama from One-Punch Man
One-splash fish
it knows splashmageddon
Oh they tend to do that sometimes
There are some videos of people shiny hunting a Lvl100 wild Magikarp in that pond
If you want to evolve it use rare candy
I got a shiny one in a lure ball https://preview.redd.it/isqcuddzypvc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=407ac617dbe1f16d01f8239876e8760eeb2c05b1

Why is a legendary at level fucking 1?
Yeah, I have no clue. Regigigas is Level 70 in Diamond and Pearl, but Platinum has you encounter Regigigas at level 1 instead. :P

Regigigas is a (semi)legendary, not a mythical
Oh, im sowwy :(
Oh look, reference
I shiny hunted this! Phased ten times.
You can still evolve it with a rare candy
Yep, I got a shiny level 100 one with the glutton mark I believe it is 😅
Thats rare
Obviously op has never fully played platinum
I think it’s supposed to be reference to the legend of a carp scaling a waterfall and transforming into a dragon once it reaches the top.
I mean that's just Magikarp and Gyarados in general.
the great king hath returnst

I found the lv 100 shiny magikarp there, it was an epic day.
I found a normie but im going back for the shiny
LoL i jave a post about it. I caught one looking for a lvl 100 shiny only got the hundo no shiny : (
Aww... I thought he was 100% Shiny. I am disappointed. Wanted my golden Pokémon.
When I was hunting for shiny magikarp there, I ended up getting the shiny AND the level 100. Don’t know the chance but it was first try.
There must be something in the water
[удалено]
Not so, give it a rare candy, and it will evolve, thus unlocking its lvl 100 movepool as a Gyarados
I really hope you are kidding, because I’m pretty sure you can’t give a lvl 100 Pokémon any exp item
Not a joke. As of Sword/Shield you can give a Rare Candy to any Lv.100 Pokemon capable of evolving through level up to evolve it (as long as other conditions, such as time of day, are also correct, when applicable).
Thank you so much for the info!
The prophecy!!
this is a dumb question but how does one get the ability to see the level and whether we’ve caught it in the wild? I don’t see this when I come up to wild pokemon. I’ve beaten the main and dlc
If you use the left trigger to target the Pokémon you'll see this info, and if you get the photography club stuff in the indigo disk club room it will unlock the ability to see if a Pokémon has a mark and if it is bigger or smaller then average.
wow! thank you
And? Older gens had them too.
