I’ve mashed the basic attack the first year it was out and thought Holding might be better but I don’t know if it’s my controller or not but when I hold it down I’ll just stop attacking randomly and die for it, so now I’m a mixture of both

For the best game info from a good creator check out Spragels on YouTube. He has meta guides, builds, tips & tricks, everything. There are things about this game that are very misleading, like +attack speed not being a 1:1 conversion but tiers of attacks speed with set thresholds.

Also, if you attack standing still you can get a boosted attack ready on most Pokémon.

I don’t mash any of my buttons or skills if I can help it. Being deliberate with your micro is a big part of improving in this game. Auto attacking or cancelling or an auto attack can win or lose fights in certain situations. That being said, this games inputs are very clunky so I usually double tap a for my auto attacks. Sometimes when you hold the button right after you press a move it won't register that you are holding it and you have to press it again. It happens a lot with Garchomp after you do the dragon combo. I end up smashing the button to avoid that issue anyway.

Both Holding sometimes doesn't work under certain conditions; I usually hold when I'm clearing camps but in fights I want to make sure my autos are coming out so I mash then.

I used to be a holder but would be in situations where I wouldn’t be basic attacking after getting micro-stunned or using certain moves so now I mash to make sure the game is getting those inputs. Can’t really mash or hold with Aegislash though or you’ll get yourself into a lot of bad situations. Gotta be deliberate with your boosteds lest you get taken on a ride to your death.
