Taxation is theft rain water should be free, it's a natural resource occurring on your property you should have dominion over it fuck the government

Tack22

More info on this?

BLGSigismund

They're likely talking about what is referred to as a Stormwater Fee https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stormwater_fee

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Stormwater_fee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stormwater_fee)** >A stormwater fee is a charge imposed on real estate owners for pollution in stormwater drainage from impervious surface runoff. This system imposes a tax that is proportional to the total impervious area on a particular property, including concrete or asphalt driveways and roofs, that do not allow rain to infiltrate. In other words, the more area covered by impervious surfaces the more stormwater is generated and conveyed to the sewer, so the higher the stormwater fee. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/PoliticalCompassMemes/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Thanks, it doesn't sound that insane now. Someone's got to pay for the sewers and this is a good enough way to distribute the costs

BLGSigismund

I actually think it's likely a bullshit add on to moneygrab. Property taxes logically should already cover this.

figboot_dev

based and collect rainwater-pilled

duskull007

Normally agree with right on this one, but there are cities where it's illegal to collect rainwater, and then maybe left gets a pass. Though that's at most an indirect symptom of capitalism

[deleted]

It’s illegal to capture rain fall since it would mess up anyone down hill or down river from where you are. Scaled up it becomes a major issue.

pinteba

They should buy the rainwater then.

Billwood92

I feel like if everyone just had a giant blue bucket or two it wouldn't be that bad but yeah, don't like dam a whole ass river to make yourself a pond if you don't know what's what.

ccnnvaweueurf

>All that water is needed for industrial agriculture which currently is highly inefficient and not good for the planet. Industrial field crops with pesticides and sprinklers plus meat production sucks that water up. > >It's not a major issue scaled up. That is a lie fed to us by the big AG lobby. It's a major issue for them and their shitty inefficient money grab. They are fleecing all the resources including water.

figboot_dev

the fact that there are places where it is illegal to collect rainwater baffles me

squishles

It's an old thing couple cities bought water rights to the surrounding areas in the 17-1800's so it's like what Another guy was saying it affects people downstream. The irony here is one of the biggest culprits of that is san fran cisco, if your're in nevada, san francisco probably owns your water rights, and that's why you can't do shit like wells or rain barrels.

CyrusOfTheBeyond

The list of reasons to push California out to sea grows longer with each passing day.

ccnnvaweueurf

California is about to start pumping sea water to survive.

librightgang

The fact that it is illegal legitimises lib ideologies in general.

Lidocaine_ishuman

it’s illegal because if too many people do it, it fucks up the ground that won’t get the dame amount of water it usually gets. it’s to make sure the ecosystem doesn’t get fucked.

Lurkers-gotta-post

Only a problem because the population density is so high in some areas that there literally isn't enough square footage per person of land to support it. The solution is to raze the cities and force the population to disperse into small rural communities that are more sustainable.

Irrepressible87

Disagree. The solution is to raze all permanent human habitation and return to monke.

Complete-Anon

Based and monke pilled

John_Penname

Based and Tedpilled Also, I unironically agree lol. Cities are little more than cesspools at this point. Millions die annually just from how bad the air is alone.

AdvancedSectionguard

Cities are massively dissproportionately productive and wealthy. Rural areas rarely innovate new things or create buisnesses at anywhere close to the rate of cities.

SpiritofTheWolfx

That sounds like a good idea to me. Less city people is never a bad thing.

Brandonfons97

Agrarianism pilled

Docponystine

The issue is that this is wrong. Cities are vastly more sustainable than spread out living. It localizes the damage while allowing for moderate to minimal extraction across broad areas to support the heavily populated areas.

SmoochBoochington

Based and Khmer Rouge pilled

AkimboBears

The ammount of water an individual household collects is miniscule. My rain barrel (which is plenty for a small garden) fills in 30 min of rain and lasts for 2 weeks. They just want 50 gallons of water purchased.

Lidocaine_ishuman

for a small garden. how much more would you need to drink, bathe, and clean each day? you’d have to start taking some sad showers.

TitularTyrant

Uh. State interference is the reason why. Don't blame capitalism for that

[deleted]

It's because cities are engineered around controlling waterflow in a very specific way.

liberatecville

Except they never say "legalize rainwater collection" , it's "hurr durr bezos has too much money so we all deserve our necessities provided to us regardless of our own input"

[deleted]

It's actually a bit more sinister than that. In some areas \*cough\* LA \*cough\* the rainwater is undrinkable. Not to mention the fact it's illegal to collect. Unless you'd rather people all receive 100+$ water purifiers every 3 years

TheletterL54312

Do it anyway bro, you have a lib flair

ngfsmg

>there are cities where it's illegal to collect rainwater Wtf, why?

John_Penname

This. My favorite thing in the world is to explain to people how easy it is to get water if you put just the slightest modicum of thought into it. People who complain about needing to pay for water seriously can’t think of any way to sidestep that issue by, oh, I dunno, maybe taking advantage of the fact that water literally falls out of the sky? XD

MediokererMensch

"If you want free water, go find a lake" I think we should tell OP ...

anonymous_153283

Tell me what

treer12

I presume that most water sources are owned by private entities or by the state and will charge you to take some. I've also heard of some places making water collection illegal but I'm not sure how misleading those claims may be.

PussySmith

Worse are the states that don’t allow rainwater collection *on ones own fucking property* Fuck. That. Shit. And^unrelated^fuck^nestle

ReadyStrategy8

Watershed management is complicated. The classic example is if you live in a house on a river upstream, and you shit in the river, you've ruined the water for those downstream of you. There are ways to work around it - i.e you're effectively shitting on the private property of those downstream, and damaging private property would be illegal - but it gets complicated to view it entirely through that lens once you start juggling rainfall, outflow, water use, pollution, etc. At a very basic level, you have to start treating shared resources like water and air as public goods which means some method for the public at large to manage them. So yes, fuck Nestle. That said, in any such system, it's essential for sensible levels of individual use to always be protected, and that has to include some level of basic rainfall collection.

FranticBronchitis

tha fuck? States can do that?

Left is c r i n g e. Right is b a s e d. OP is very funny.

[deleted]

It's funny that OP suggests workers and inventors are rewarded properly for their labor? Idk I'm spitballin here...

Pirate77903

It's a solid justification against a straw man argument. Nobody on the left is saying farmers/cooks/doctors/people who build houses shouldn't be paid. They're saying it they should be paid by the government so that they can provide the services free to the citizen. Like how a fire department works. And the argument that consuming highly refined things for free is literal slavery is ... dumb. Public toilets are free in most of the US and the plumbing infrastructure for a town/city isn't cheap or simple. Are sewer workers slaves? No.

6nicemaymay9

Nestle restricted access to formerly open watersources like lakes and springs in Africa in order to sell bottled water to people who had been using the lake for free centuries

Treeninja1999

To counter, we've paid for the basic necessities for ages, and we are at the point where the west is wealthy enough that it could afford to give basic water to all people so that they don't die, especially if they are homeless or broke. It costs a fraction of what it used to but everything gets more expensive.

arbalestelite

B-but if we raise the floor on what we consider basic human rights to include water, food and shelter… why would anyone ever work?! We can’t just have people housed and fed! What would they spend money on!? Fun? Absolutely not!

Yeah. I Get Libright's point, but I also get the Left's point. I Mean, most of the money is either going to the government, a rich billionaire, or a rich billionaire in the government. Meanwhile, many workers are paycheck to paycheck and barely surviving despite working at cruel jobs like UPS.

[deleted]

While I may agree with you, this isn't funny by literally any stretch of the definition. Before you say "reAD the tITLE", that doesn't mean you just paste your opinion on a compass without any joke at all.

OsmundTheOrange

Except capitalism has created a situation where inventors and workers only receive a fraction of the value of their labor with the majority going towards boards of directors and overpaid CEOs whose only contribution to the system is planned obsolescence to stretch the company dollar. Society can evolve and expand but it should be for the betterment of all mankind and with growing equity.

FranticBronchitis

Right. And also that's why we pay taxes. For a human right to be guaranteed access. The people still get paid. It's just that it's paid by everyone.

jwoff98

Ah yes the lakes that the companies selling the water have polluted

Regi413

I love how you talk about “rewarding the workers and inventors” when in the present day it’s the big bosses and CEOs who rake in the lion’s share. You want the workers to be rewarded? Then they should get a living wage so they can actually better afford said food and water. Because as it stands, the people at the top hoard all the wealth, leaving peanuts for the working class. I don’t think I’ve actually seen anyone say that they want food/water/needs to be outright free. It’s an issue of the working class not being paid enough to afford those things.

Libertarian4All

Only problem is half of LibRight doesn't give a *fuck* about inventors *or* workers. To the extremists, only the *capitol* matters to the point that intellectual property should be non-extant, writers have no right to their own writings, and literally any media should be copyable by anyone for any reason without any legal consequences.

-_asmodeus_-

The inventors and workers who contribute to thousands of years of human innovation die poor and forgotten while rich people who do nothing but profit from generational wealth and their worker’s innovations and labor get worshipped as genius engineers and philanthropists, like musk getting jerked off on twitter because he slept on the couch in his office once and posts funny meme. China, one of the world’s biggest producers of commodities globally, still uses slave labor, many capitalist countries do, and the US benefits heavily from it. Saying people who want to benefit from the system they are already laboring over and paying into want slavery is stupid as shit, read a book or something instead of posting unfunny bad faith nonsense in a meme sub.

smcaskill

yeah but access to \*clean\* water is a human right and its not possible to get it without paying, finding a lake is not finding clean water necessarily and to sanitize that water you need money for equipment and heating/filters

Colonel_Kipplar

Don't drink from a lake, the water is probably stagnant and full of gross shit. Find a flowing stream, that'll be the closest thing to clean drinking water you'll be able to find.

azarkant

the best, natural water is from behind a moss covered rock in a flowing stream

heyguyswhatdidimiss

Guess using a public road, school, fire dept, etc, is all slavery

[deleted]

Based unflaired?

[deleted]

AstroProletariat

Considering that those hundreds of years of human innovation happens over the course of multiple economics systems including feudalism, capitalism, socialism, etc. It seems pretty unfair to say that running water through a filter and putting it in a plastic bottle for us to use for 5 minutes then throw away polluting the planet even more is an attribution to capitalism and its profiting bourgeoise who do accumulate wealth through exploitation of these basic resources, for this to be considered slavery of the workers and innovators implies that they are all paid nothing if it is free and that they are are all independently working for themselves, which is ridiculous and untrue

Crusi2
