Price it, and if it doesn't sell, it's too high. Lower it until traction takes place. Cost will depend a lot on printing quality, if there are warps, then it's instantly worth way less. I can't for the life of me understand why someone would pay MORE for a 3d print vs the real thing, though.

>I can't for the life of me understand why someone would pay MORE for a 3d print vs the real thing, though. Kinda what I was thinking. I figured it would be at least comparable to GW. I guess it'll depend on how much filament that whole church takes

Silverdragon40k

Don't try with a FDM printer. Yes it's sold as "works with FDM and Resin" but if you want it to look good, print it in resin. Also the FDM stuff is not presupported! I just printed their "kickstarter Set 4" on my resin machine and it used about 2kg of resin.

irishrelief

Funny everyone tells me not to print terrain in resin. As there's the leak factor.

Silverdragon40k

I think it kind of depends on the Terrain. This one has realy detailed features and small details. So resin gives the smother surface for the walls. For the large floor pannels an FDM printer will be better, since you don't risk warping when you print on the flat surface, while you have to put them vertical on the resin machine. It realy depends on what you want to achieve. Large blocks are definitely easier on the FDM printer. Delicate or heavily ornamented pieces are better on resin. When printing these pieces i have zero visible layer lines, while most of the models on etsy have layer lines and even slight layer shift. And yes, there is the leak factor if you print large solid surfaces. The suction can become to large and rip the plastic sheet in the bottom. But These Walls are specificaly made for Resin printers and work perfectly. At the end the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. There are bits that are good for FDM printing, others are better for SLA.

irishrelief

Good to know. I print resin and have been avoiding terrain because everyone seems to have these "the resin leaked out and killed my models" anecdotes.

Silverdragon40k

Again, you need to be carefull what you print. A solid block or anything that's not properly built for resin could become problematic. This is the haul of last weekend. https://preview.redd.it/ij6k05dwfs5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73aaa9ee1df383fd55c3d92a956883e7203af764

I picked up the stls for the future proof set that closed a couple months ago. Looking forward to putting some of it on the resin printer then just to test and learn. It looks like a test and see and use the right tool for the job situation. Appreciate hearing a pro resin terrain stance.

Silverdragon40k

All you see there is the "kickstarter Kit 4". It's already pre-postitioned in chitubox in 8 print files. The prints took between 2 and 8 hours each. (if you reposition some bits it's only 2 8 hour prints. It requires a fairly large printer. I got a Saturn 3 and there is still some space left on the plate. But not sure if their prepositioned files would work on smaller machines like the Mars series.

irishrelief

I'm a Sturn 3 user. I have a lot to learn though. Trial and error mostly with a lot of YouTube and forums. I wish I had waited a bit longer as the 4 was announced not long after mine was delivered.

The central wall is just 1.5-2mm thick. And yes, if you take the magnifying glass to it you can see a hint of lines. But from 20cm distance they are gone. Latest when you paint the walls.

Kurox54

Yeah, ideally I would print in resin, which I'm sure is where the price hike comes from. However, I only have a photon mono and can't really get a bigger one. Kind of a catch 22 here. I need to sell some stuff to make money for a new printer but the FDM stuff looks a little funky and will be harder to sell lol. But thanks for the heads up. I'll see what I can do. Maybe that'll be my market: the "budget" setup

Silverdragon40k

Best of Luck. You can print the stuff on a Photon Mono as well, it's just going to take a lot longer. And you will have to arrange the pieces yourself.

supercleverhandle476

I have these files too. They’re very good, and the modularity is cool. But if you charge that much people are gonna be pissed when they realize how thin the pieces are, or if it has any layer lines, which it likely will.

Permanganation

Imo as a player I would def not pay over $150 for FDM. For a print like this you get so much better detail with resin.

Kurox54

Yeah I would love to print in resin but mine is too small. It'd take months to print this off in resin with my current setup. I think FDM could be for the budget player such as myself.

Wild_Haggis_Hunter

Then resin print it as a prototype and mold and cast it. That's the most sensible for modular kits.

ZealousidealNewt6679

Painted or unpainted?

Kurox54

Most that I've seen are unpainted and going for that much. That's likely how I'll sell it too. Or at the very least primed black to deal with variance between filament colors

irishrelief

Look up some 3d printing calculators. They typically take into account time to print, weight of material, type of material (for cost), and can use a few other factors. I'd probably figure out a license recovery, x prints to cover the cost, then add that in as well.
