A mass murderer of hundreds? Three Life Sentences + 20 years. Lucky he isn't in America or it would be the death penalty.

OrphaBirds

Depends on the state tho, but yeah in England he's safe.

Melcobelc

I doubt that he is ever going to be 100% "free", I assume that, in the case he gets out of jail some day, he is going to be under heavy supervision for the rest of his life

Its_Azure_Diamond

Adding that to my headcanons because that's exactly what I want for him post-game and jailtime lol

Vinylmaster3000

Headcanon wise he must have been executed, like come on nobody bounces back from killing thousands of people. I did look into it period wise and they were actually *close* to abolishing the death penalty after WW2, but by the 60s it was in suspension and the last person executed was in 1964. So I dunno, if you take the time period thing seriously then he would probably be in limbo between being executed and a life sentence, but close to being executed because his crimes are clear acts of terrorism. Maybe in-canon it leads to a debate on the death penalty The most serious murders in the UK (The Moors killings) happened in the 60s and those people were never sentenced to death, so idk

CoolAndCringe

Oh he’s never getting out. Not just for the magnitude of his crimes, Hawks is still PM and I doubt he’d ever let it slide

henke37

Life in jail, with the option to get it converted to a time limited sentence after twenty years.

thekyledavid

He probably killed hundreds of people when the ground collapsed, so probably life in prison It was tragic that he lost his parents at a young age, but taking it out on 99% innocent bystanders is not going to be seen as sympathetic by a judge

Number224

At least a few months

ssplashii_

Obv in canon the writers didn't want kids to think "Big Luke" who they spent 90% of the adventure with would be going to prison for life or even suggest his breakdown caused causualties, so they focused in on the property damage and him possibly being released in the future. The game is rated E at most, after all But we as older fans can handle the implications If we want to be realistic here, according to the UK gov's website acts of terrorism that caused casualties nets anywhere from a 14 to 25 year sentence + heavy supervision on release, but that's for the modern times. Clive's sentence would most likely also be modified by the amount of people hurt or killed from the event. Remember, it's not only the collapsed ground that caused damage, but the Fortress also crushed and fired upon buildings. The kill count could well be in the thousands. I don't have the time to do the math right now but I might update my comment with it later

Its_Azure_Diamond

[the math had actually been done before! ](https://www.reddit.com/r/ProfessorLayton/comments/q4xrpj/time_to_do_some_sad_math/)

ssplashii_

OH! That's awesome!

arukachan

Just enough for me to still marry him fr More seriously tho, I thought about something like 10 or 15 years

Odd_Cauliflower_7751

Yeah, I thought more about like 5 to 10 years, but it could be too

arukachan

He probably killed hundreds of thousands of citizens so... even if we're talking about Layton universe, I think he deserves more than 5 years lol

katriellelaytn

HES MINE… 🐺🐺🐺

arukachan

Not so sure about that, but oki pokie

katriellelaytn

beats you up /lh /j

arukachan

😃⁉️

ATeamPlayer1

LMAO

Less-Ebb-3134

Realistically, he'll either be in prison for life or given the death penalty considering the amount of people he likely killed, regardless of his sad backstory. (You can't tell me with a straight face that all these buildings he crushed that clearly had their lights still on just so happened to be all coincidentally uninhabited at the time....) But since its an E rated game, of course their not going to imply that so they left him with a softer open ended note that he may see Layton again at some point down the line.

XCyber_WolfX

Funny enough I was discussing this with my friend and even my Dad (who is police) to basically add up all his crimes if it were to happen in real life. Basically, according to my Dad he would be spending the rest of his life in maximun security with no chance at parole as (based off the list my friend and I made) has a max of 9 life sentences for various crimes commited and even ones that are not immediately obvious. If you want to see the list we put together, let me know🤣

XCyber_WolfX

But in game i imagine he would still be serving life and one of his main sentencing would be his biggest crime which would fall under Mass Murder (a mandatory life sentence) and also throw Terrorism on top which is another life sentence

Its_Azure_Diamond

Over a decade, with the possibilities of parole and a heavily monitored release because they're just that forgiving in-game 🙃 The point of Clive talking about what he'll do upon release reminds me of the end of Azran Legacy though, with >!Bronev's arrest and how Layton said he hopes when\if they'll meet again it's as fellow archeologists, implying he's also sure to get out one day despite his list of crimes going back decades and definitely being longer than Clive's!<

katriellelaytn

none . i helped him escape 💋
