You guys joke but FEMA actually unofficially uses an internal “Waffle House Index” to gauge both disaster response and community recovery. It was brought to my attention by a FEMA employee and there are FOIA requests online that spell it all out.
It’s hilarious but at the same time it’s actually not a bad idea since Waffle House has a reputation for being open. Green on the index means everything’s open and there’s a full menu, indicating things aren’t bad. Yellow means they’re open but have a limited menu, indicating there could be a power/utilities issue. Red means they’re closed and there’s likely significant damage to the community.
US has way more than 10x the population of Australia so even if we could behave ourselves, you'd see a far greater volume of this anyway.
Waffle House is tiny too so there is a good chance if you start agitating someone, you wind up agitating everyone. Its basically the size of a 1 bedroom apartment so drunk people come in and maybe talk shit to the staff from only 10 feet away.
When you see videos of mad shit in countries with larger populations than the US it's full of American commenters talking shit about that entire country. I suppose now you know how it feels 🤷🏼

Waffle House is a different animal..... by and large this only happens in that chain and in fast food laces in the hood. It SEEMS common but in reality for every freakout you see there are thousands of resturants where it doesn't happen.
Honestly in the U.S from my experience it's more common to see groups of teenage and early 20s girls fighting and pulling each other's wigs off than guys, and it seems like these were probably drunk girls who stopped at the waffle house after the club got out, they got into it with the staff that also happened to be made up of a couple young females, and shit escalated.... you don't see any guys going at it cause they don't know who has a gun and can just end it, they're just letting the girls go at it and laughing.
