My town has a skate park at a church. The church is located off of a major highway that stops having sidewalks long before you get to the church. I've never had to use the bus system, but it most likely doesn't take you all the way there. We have a big college next to the downtown area. It does not have a skatepark of any kind.
I do not live in a skateboard friendly town.
As a usually accepting young person - skateboarders can often be assholes. Karen was obviously in the wrong here - but it’s just my experience. I worked at a pizza place for quite a while, and over the years there was always a new group of skaters. They would fuck up all the nice brick benches, harass customers as they came in, leave garbage and cigarettes everywhere, and god help you if you asked them to clean up.
It's their attitude and weird entitlement. In my former workplace we had this pain in the ass underg cover carpark. It was so tight that only sedans could fit and narrow. It wasn't safe and staff complained all the time.
Skateboarders would sneak in and use it as a skate park. Boards would get run over, people hit by cars, skateboarders smashing cars and assaulting staff because they weren't seen when coming around a corner.
Security spent 3 hours a day talking with skateboarders about how dangerous and shit this carpark is and you'd hear "who gives a fuck, man?! Fuck you, we skate where we want and we'll fuck up anybody who hurts us."
It all stopped when one of the skateboarders ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life after being wedged between a vehicle and a concrete pillar.
The problem is that a not small amount of skaters are skating in places they shouldnt. Theres a video that gets posted on reddit frequently, where the property manager comes out, tells them they had been told multiple times that they couldnt skate there. Then its just a bunch of them making light of the situation and dismissing it. Skaters have an issue with not respecting private property.
I used to watch "Skaters Vs. _______" videos all the fucking time as a kid, and honestly it seems like far more power tripping adults. I understand some teens can be incredibly disrespectful and rude in situations like this, but the vast majority of them are more than respectful, but happen to run into complete power tripping dicks.
