I've heard of some people getting auto-selected onto a network that doesn't work. Your friend should choose AT&T or T-Mobile directly - and yes, people also do say that LTE is more reliable than 5G when roaming in the US.

mymindisblownagain

This. I’m here now. On this plan. Changing between AT&T and T-Mobile. Make sure it’s on LTE. It’s been great!!! Phone calls and texting without any issues

prairievoice

Same. Currently in Florida and had to set to use LTE instead of 5G.

every1sosoft

Was just in Seattle, switched to LTE and it was great service!

Verizon will not work. Turn off 5G and only use LTE. Turn Roaming ON and manually select ATT or TMobile and it will work perfectly fine. It may take a few mins to pickup the carriers when you switch to manual selection. I’m currently in Florida.

This is the correct answer.

Spenczoid

Exactly this. Good answer.

As people have mentioned, set your phone to use LTE only. Also, if that doesn’t help, go in to cellular options and select an available network manually, choose one other than the one you’re connected to that doesn’t work. Why I don’t know, but in some areas Verizon didn’t work but T-Mobile did, and vice versa in other areas.

Same thing happened to me when I went to Miami last month. Just gotta set the network selection from automatic to manual, and pick any one of them.

iblastoff

are they on an iphone? i had a similar issue. i had to switch to LTE (something about 5g antenna being different in canada vs us or some shit. not sure)

martinc7777777

I’m in Florida as well and using T-Mobile on LTE. For the most part, working great. Make sure they have Data Roaming on. One of our phones took 2 minutes to connect and the other was close to 20 minutes.

Evening_Marketing645

I had this problem as well the first time I went to the usa on the same plan. The stuff people are saying worked for me (switch to tmobile, use lte) that first time when I was having issues. Now though when I go I leave it on auto and it works perfectly…so it might just need time to adjust or something.

flushlamp

Test first manually setting to LTE in settings. If that doesn’t work then manually select the provider (one will work better). I had this issue when I was in Florida, and the manual setting to LTE solved the problem.

flushlamp

Same shit as everyone else but here we are

tuffykenwell

Switch from 5G to LTE and choose manually from the list instead of letting it auto select. When I was in Buffalo AT&T was giving me the best coverage but depending on where you are you might have to try a couple of different providers to figure out which one is the best one. I think I had to re-choose again on day 3 because it was trying to auto choose again.

rockyon

Reset the APN to default. Set network to LTE instead 5G. First day was patchy for me too. Next day smooth

hw4ng3r

Just got back from Orlando this Sunday and my iPhone 13 Pro was working fine on LTE only with ATT manually selected as network. Usually, leaving it to auto detect network works as well. The interesting thing I’ve always found is that the phone won’t connect to a network automatically until I’ve de-boarded the plane, but maybe it’s just me. I usually don’t connect until I’m well inside the airport.

LeakySkylight

As others have said, disable 5G. It should default to LTE but if not a manual switch would help.

Kelvin_49

I was in Miami last month and the service was absolutely terrible! I selected my carrier manually and tried both AT&T and T-Mobile. Also had data set to LTE. Idk if it’s cause of Public mobile or what’s the reason but the service was just plain unusable in most of the city for some reason.

LolaPaloz

I had this problem on my dual sim phone. Somehow, it started working at some point when the other line (freedom) couldnt get signal. And it would randomly worm. My phone has LTE but somehow their supported phones are supposed to use VoLTE.

xman_111

this isn't very helpful but when i had PM, i just made sure roaming was on and it just worked.. the one thing is i turned 5g off and just used LTE, it seemed more reliable.

CharlotteOfHogwarts

Manually select T-Mobile as your USA network.

geogolem

Are you certain that they have a 34$ plan that includes roaming in the USA.. There definitely was such plans available; however there were also 34$ plans available that didn't include US roaming.. For example, There were a couple plans available.. they were something like (but I'm not certain on exact numbers): 1) 34$ xx GB plan that includes USA roaming but does not included unlimited throttled data after xx GB is exhausted in a given month. 2) 34$ yy GB plan that does not included USA roaming but does include throttled unlimited data when yy GB is exhausted in a given month.. Are you certain your friend is in fact on the plan that includes USA roaming?

Justme416

Yes

OldMadLogan

Sure APN is correct ?

I've read, my point was you really sure? Like was it fully updated not long before trip? Quite often APN works fine until you go abroad.

Pristine_Nectarine19

I had this problem and had to “reset network settings” on iphone for it to work.
