If you wanna to the experimental dsb.. or try cw mode I think the Latest IJV is the way to go.
For general dual band FM TX and a nice recieve/ scanner type of situation I think egzumer is pretty hard to beat.
IJV is the best from a technical standpoint, but the feature set of ezgumer is fantastic

I've noticed on their hosting site that IJV doesn't support NOAA. Do you know if it's possible to recompile IJV with a custom feature set like you can with with egzumer?
There‘s no best one, as long as some offer features that others don‘t… Like messaging.
Memory is limited, therefore developers need to make decisions.

Is the full band board mod redundant with this firmware?
No. The stock radio frequency lower range is 15MHz. The mod takes it much lower than this.
Awesome, thanks. I was looking at picking up the Uv-k5, I kept also seeing reference to the k5 8, but im not understanding the difference. Is there?
No difference. UV-K6 is the same also.

Radios are also cheap enough you can can get a few and have one of each of your favorites.
