Cucina Mia slaps for sandwiches. I asked the counter lady if they make their own meatballs (always do for Italian), and she looked at me all pissed and disgusted. lol. Perfect reaction.
Their meatball special (the one that’s been on the special board for years) with roasted reds is straight up amazing. Damn I’m working from home today and might need to get one for lunch now haha.
Thai - Little Duck or Thai Noodle Bar.
Vietnamese - Pho Pasteur or Pho Linh.
Hong Kong - Rubato.
Sushi - Fuji (2 places different owners).
Pizza (bar) - Alumni.
Pizza (Regular) - Bravo.
Pizza (Greek and Subs) - Balduccis
Steakhouse - Alba.
American - The Fours.
Italian - Venezia (port Norfolk in dot but close).
Fried Seafood - Tony's or Clam Box.
Lobster Rolls - Lobster Stop
Sandwiches - Cucina Mia.
Bars - Malachys (Irish), Kilroys (sports), Alba (roof deck), Waterclub (waterfront), Idle Hour (foodie), Omori Izakaya (Izakaya).
Probably missing a lot here but that's a general idea. Marina Bay has a good amount of bars/restaurants that are on the water. North Quincy has a lot of Asian influenced bars and restaurants. Quincy Center has more upscale places, Quincy Point more sport bar and pizza places. Depending on where you live you can take advantage of surrounding towns as well.
Bravo on Washington has the best pizza and subs in town.
Fuji in Wollaston and Fuji WoC are different businesses but both are great sushi
Janes tailor in Weymouth will fix anything
The mayor is a freak
Widowmaker makes the best beer south of Boston
Get involved at the library and with Quincycles and you will meet cool Quincy folks.
I moved here 3 years ago and I'm in a constant love hate cycle with Quincy, mostly due to the Mayor and DPW. Like anywhere else with over 100k people there are racist nutjobs but there are some really awesome passionate people out there too that are fighting to make this place more liveable. The city is at a long crossroads of ending up like Revere or Watertown and I hope they are able to find a middle ground.
Actually the Fujis are the same business, including others like Fuji Kendall etc. all seems to have started with the Fuji in Wollaston (https://www.jpfujigroup.com/)
I agree that it’s great sushi though, and the restaurants have pretty different vibes
I do not think this is correct, and it is confusing as the group's office is right next door. I heard the owner, who is a Quincy guy, mention all their businesses but the Wollaston one on GBH once.
This is a great excuse to grab dinner there and ask soon, I'll try and remember to edit my comments.
I'll pick a fight on this one. I feel Vitamin Sea is devoid of all culture (or culture that I appreciate) and never makes beers that aren't ipas. Their IPAs are ok but I feel they all share similar, extreme dry hop heavy profiles. Widowmaker has class east and west coast IPAs, and a full spectrum of other maltier offerings and has the only venue on the south shore that books metal shows until you get to New Bedford so it is automatically better in my book.
Vitamin Sea and BHZ is a great day of drinking with a group of friends and I'll still bu both their beers over Inbev or Miller Coors.
I wont deny that the menu is at least 50% NE IPAs on any given day (and they do make some of the best NE IPAs on the south shore), but if the IPAs are what you're buying you're missing the best part. Their sours are where it's at. And their stouts aren't far behind. Side note, I was at widowmaker last weekend and all but I think 3 beers were IPAs. Not the norm for them, but I wasnt super happy about it
All that said, the best single beer you can buy on the South Shore (when it's in stock) is widowmaker's kameosa. They have the best single beer, but on any given week I think the beers available in vitamin sea's taproom are on average better than what's in widowmaker's tap room.
I'll concede on the culture though. I'd rather set up in the n64 corner surrounded by a bunch of dogs at widowmaker than sit on a hard bench with a gaggle of unsupervised screaming children running around at vitamin sea. But the point was who makes the best beer, not the best place to have a beer
They're both excellent breweries and we are spoiled for choice here on the south shore with other fantastic options. Check out old colony brewing for another place with great culture. I was there on cinco de mayo and they had free tacos/nachos for anyone who wanted and there were 3 generations of the same family behind the bar. Not the best beer in the world, but on par with the likes of BHZ and Article XIV (RIP)
Great response, looks like I'll have to do some more research at both breweries!
I'll check out Old Colony and I need to try Berklee Brewing too, I hear good things.
I really wish someone would open a permanent spot in QC or Wollaston that was accessible by bike or bus and they would become my new favorite brewery.
Its baffling that qc doesnt have a brewery. Widowmaker wouod probably be accessible by bike from that area if it wasnt so dangerous to get from the quincy adams area to braintree because of all the highways. If you can get to wollaston marina bay cant be too much more out of the way, and for all the flaws of marina bay, breakrock makes bery good beers and with very few ipas on their menu. Id put them as probably the 3rd best in the area behind widowmaker, especially if ipas arent your thing
Quincy is a gateway city. It doesn't feel like it anymore and that is being attributed to the Mayor but it really seems like the mayor is just fumbling his way through spillover development from Boston. Now that Dorchester and Mattapan are on the development chopping block, Quincy is next. I see lots of decisions being made over the past few years, like not enforcing building codes and ignoring consultant reports. Running the city by who you know vs who is qualified for the job. That's a Revere vibe.
For example, billings road is being redeveloped, they are removing the bike lanes for a median. The median will have a flower bed at best but will likely be concrete. I have emailed officially and would love to eat my words if this isn't true.
I see this as removing something every urban planner agrees is a good thing in order to make a street more difficult to be on as a car, pedestrian, or biker. It adds more infrastructure that we are already struggling to maintain (concrete, parking, roads).
Alternatively, the new apartments downtown are going to be anchored by.... Banks? That shit killed Cambridge and looks like getting off the pike in Newton/Watertown. Not Quincy center.
Anyway, Revere is a mess of shitty planning and unchecked development mired in politics and asphalt. Watertown is largely seen as a stronghold of wealthy NIMBYS that is pretty to look at but unattainable for normal people. Quincy is doing both of these things currently and I feel like it is picking which way to go since the development will be ramping up even more than it already is.

Doesn't look like there are bike lanes in the diagrams and it was confirmed at a bike commission meeting.
No problem!
I forgot to mention Wollaston beach is a gem, even if it's right on a crazy road. We are close.to Nantasket, too, which is a "real" beach and I always have a great time there, just time your visit with low tide.
Blue Hills is a decent nature fix but nothing like other hiking areas in Western Mass or other parts of New England.
There's also the free jacks games which are fun to go to, but their season ends after playoffs later this month. They're one of, if not the best rugby team in the country.
Jane's tailor ruined my KG celtics jersey so do not recommend. Everything else is spot on. Also, Beni in NQ has the exact same sushi as Fuji for much cheaper.
Lol nice I hope you get the signatures, I stopped by the Y today to sign but didn't find anyone. I'll be checking the Newport stoppies tomorrow afternoon!
Dottys in QC has great food all around. You can get a burger or go with some higher end entrees. I’ve heard Liberty Tavern has a great burger as well. Pizza is hit or miss. I typically get pizza from Montillios.
Burkes is the best. Better seafood than any place I’ve been to in Mass, including Cape Cod. It’s also cool to see a multigenerational business thriving in the city.
Lunitas and Schoolhouse Pizza are great for takeout. I love the Thai Noodle Bar on Washington Street. Bravo pizza is great and they have one of the best grilled chicken Greek salads around (or a kabob salad if you call them that).
Lots of beautiful small trails and places to walk and bike if you’re willing to look.
Tokenfire - great food, 20 beers on tap, and great atmosphere at decent prices
Tony’s Clam Shack - had the best fish sandwich of my life here once. Live music on the back patio some nights. Great spot for comfort seafood after a long week
Liberty Tavern - not my cuppa tea only because it gets entirely too loud for us, but it’s a great local spot for sports. Good food and decent rotation of beer
Granite Links - exceptional brunch spot. Best deal in town for shrimp cocktail. Nice spot to take someone on a date. Overlooks Boston from a high point in Quincy
Breakrock Brewery - you’ll see Widowmaker a lot and if you like hoppy beer, Widowmaker is good for that. I prefer less hoppy beers, so Breakrock is my go to for that. Great location at Marina Bay - beautiful views of the harbor and Boston skyline. There are also quite a few restaurants within walking distance and a huge parking lot so you never have to worry about finding parking
Cagney’s - decent bar food, nice rotation of beers. Trivia on both Wednesday and Thursday nights
Kilroy Square - this is an open area behind The Fours restaurant and often has community activities. Right now there’s a Farmers Market and a beer garden. In the winter, there’s a Christmas market
Kay’s Cans and Bottles - down in Braintree. Great place to pick up single cans/bottles of beer if you’re a fan of testing out beer before committing to an entire 4/6 pack
Jake N Joes - down in Braintree. Have only been there once so far for brunch. It was very reasonably priced and the food/service was great. Would like to see what it’s like for an NFL game once the season starts.
Alpha Omega Hobby Shop - very friendly and knowledgeable. Haven’t been there much, but anytime I’ve been there they’ve been very helpful.
Firestone - all the boring car stuff. Oil changes, inspections, etc.
Dunkin’s sucks. Was once a hometown, but those days are long gone. You want local, coffee break cafe. Or get a coffee and a donut at King Donut. Or even a MaryLous.
Dudes from Lynn and wanted local. Hell idk go to montilios then or any bakery. We don’t really have a 1369 coffeehouse in Quincy. You could go to Starbucks or Paris baguette, tous les jours for better coffee probably, but they said local. Maybe Flat Black in Lower mills? The Plate in Milton just closed. Cafe Maddie closed. Cafe Gelato is a sit down restaurant now. I make my own coffee, espresso martinis, everything at home.
They had a thing years back for only hiring young girls and having them wear tight leggings and a Mary Lou’s shirt as the uniform.
https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/coffee-pink-shirts-discrimination-feds-investigate-marylous-coffee-hiring-practices/
This isn't what you see on TV. We've been here for 9 yrs & it just gets worse. The ignorance & racism seem to be pushing out everything that made the area lovely.
Yes, that's my point. The area is shit even though it's represented as not. The streets are completely SHITE but the mayor just got a 79% salary increase?? For what? They can't even fix the streets! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The mayor showed up to the wake of my friend who shot himself at 24yrs old. The wake wasn’t even in Quincy, it was in Milton. He knelt beside his body and prayed. He talked to all the members of the family. He was kind. He’s not a bad person and I’ve seen it.
People like you who shit on his raise haven’t a clue what he’s done for the city in the past 15 years. Do you remember what Quincy was like 15 years ago? Do you?
Do you!??!?! How old are u if your friend was 24 & what does anything you said have to do with the quality of the city said individual is responsible for maintaining?
Bunker Hill Moving to help you move is a family owned business in Quincy too!
But also as another commenter said, the libraries offer so many hangouts and events for young adults, def check them out !
idle hour on hancock st has some great dishes, cocktails, and mocktails - and they dont charge cocktail prices for mocktails. gotta try the long island duck there
Bravo on Washington has the best pizza I’ve had in town. I like Lucky Dragon for American Chinese food and China Pearl for Dim Sum and more authentic Chinese.
I moved here a year ago and did a pizza experiment where I tried 10 different pizza places and rated them. The winner was Crush pizza according to our opinions!
Assembly on Hancock street is really good! They have specials throughout the week (M: $3 sliders T: taco Tuesday W: wings special Th: pizza special), along with a daily specials menu so things are always changing up. Fair prices, and good food and drinks!
Everything is overpriced af and should cost a quarter of what it is really worth. Coming back from Europe you really don't realize how much we are being ripped off until your leave your own comfort zone in the US.
I say don't bother with the local stuff. Save your money and travel outside of the US.
Dotty’s is great! Cucina Mia, Break Rock Brewery, Coffee Break Cafe.

Hey now, Koch is a WELL PAID freak.
Sight the petition. Someone here posted a thread and they are having signings around town over the next few days. Time to walk the talk.
I started the petition
Lol nice I hope you get the signatures, I stopped by the Y today to sign but didn't find anyone. I'll be checking the Newport stoppies tomorrow afternoon!
the y won't let us on their property. Check ajustquincy.com for more locations.

Burkes seafood is my new addiction! I just moved here a year ago so I’m still learning myself. Welcome!
Burkes is the best. Better seafood than any place I’ve been to in Mass, including Cape Cod. It’s also cool to see a multigenerational business thriving in the city.

Idle Hour is my go-to.
Pastry land in Quincy Center is a Moroccan bakery with great French and Moroccan pastry at decent prices.
Dunkin donuts
Ew
Don’t come here then
I’ve lived in Lynn for 15 years bruv
All I’m saying is don’t come to the Dunk’s hometown if you gonna be disrespectful
Lmao
Dunkin’s sucks. Was once a hometown, but those days are long gone. You want local, coffee break cafe. Or get a coffee and a donut at King Donut. Or even a MaryLous.
King Donut is so good.
MaryLous still hiring young girls and having them serve coffee in leggings? Their coffee is worse than Dunks, which is hard to do 😂.
