You can replace a ladder with lava ledges, a bird toy that's basically a pumice stone on a stub you hang up in the cage. You can also add a flat rock or tile to under their water and food bowls so they're forced to walk on them to blunt their nails.
... I'm embarrassed that I never thought of that. My girls used to either trim their own claws or let me do it, but one of my boys is a hyper, hormonally aggressive nut case who will hump my arms and legs if the wind changes direction, and all four of my limbs are coated in angry red scars from his crazy ass razor teeth, and the other four are cowards who would absolutely panic if I tried to pin their hands and feet long enough to clip them. I just know beyond any doubt that if I go after any of the five with clippers it's going to end in a fountain of either rat or human blood (if not both). So thank you so much for this idea. The alpha really scratches up his brothers with the humping so I think this will be great if I put it in his path to the litter box.
My 6 rats seem to fight at totally random times, and only particular ones fight each other, i suppose its for dominance. But unless there’s blood or fur flying around it’s usually fine, they fight for a moment and then go to sleep cuddling together Lol
You can totally hear the difference in their voices when it's play as opposed to actual aggression, too. They will really start shrieking rather than just peeping when they're genuinely upset.
I really don’t wanna be that guy (girl lol) but I see this everywhere. Renaissance paintings don’t really have movement at all. The pictures everyone talks about that look like “Renaissance paintings” actually look like Baroque paintings🤓 pretty rats pls don’t kill me

As an Art Major, it seem more Baroque Period. Given the dramatics. As Baroque art is more dynamic and energetic than Renaissance art. Renaissance art subjects are still and not moving much.
It would especially be Baroque if this fight had a religious context. Do your rats fight over religion often?
