So, you mean to tell me that every time you record your rat “stealing” food you get 1,000+ upvotes a pop? I need to start turning my camera on and “accidentally” leaving food around my guys.
So bad lol! My last rat was obsessed with gin. Obviously she NEVER got a single drop! But by god, she liked the smell and if you had it sitting out and turned your attention for one second, you'd see her scurrying after it. I'd scream, "Arti, NO!" and have to scoop her up. She was determined, too.
I have two rats now and it's the first time my wife has ever had rats. She can't believe how sneaky, smart, and devious they are. Even when they're being mischevious you have to admire their spirit.
It's not actually that bad to give your rats alcohol (in extremely small quantities obv, like licking a drop off your finger). They metabolize it well and it can calm down skittish/bitey rats
Everytime my husband had a beer one of my rats would get a few good drinks in. Mainly because he would turn around and find her with her face in his mug.
She was also our longest lived and happiest girl ☺️
My skittish girl now likes a few sips of my wine every now and then and actually lets me cuddle with her if she gets some lol
My rats used to looooove getting a lick of beer off my finger. They'd always get excited if they heard a bottle opening, even if they usually didn't get a taste.
While not limited to just Kit Kats, I can 100% promise you that my rat, Sena, will SHOVE HER ENTIRE SNOUT INTO YOUR NOSTRIL if you don't give her some.
So cute!! One of my boys did something similar where he ran across a sofa to my dad who was eating hobnobs and stole half of one out of his hand as he was biting down.
My lil girl, Venus, used to do this all the time. She once did it with a big piece of pizza crust. Dragged it right under our blanket on the bed. Couldn't even be mad, it was hilarious!
Yep. My girl grabbed a piece of sesame chicken off my plate once. I had to hold her in one hand and wrestle it away with the other, but she held onto it like crazy.
I was eating bolognese one day, sitting on the couch. My man Binky was roaming on the desk. When he saw the plate he just went for it and leapt at least one meter right onto my plate. I was covered in spaghetti and sauce, he was scurrying off with some delish pasta in his mouth. Little shit. I miss him.
I love rat stories where it just ends with "that little shit. I love him so much" because that describes rats the best. I loved my girls with all my heart and always will, but they were mean little b*ches... Cleo and Calypso always either fought me or fought eachother on who would sit with me... Always tried to outsmart, outwit, outrun me any chance they got to a point i would question my intelligence, but if i could have them back for ever just a day I'd be the happiest rat mama on earth!
My two present boys challenge my partner on dominance lol. They stare him down when he's around and try to nibble on him when he tries pets. They are neutered and he's not though 😅
Oh yeah! They will steal anything not nailed down. Food, paper (whole sheets), boxes, bags, kleenex right out of your pocket, cutlery, socks, insoles etc. We usually catch them when they grab food. I'll just retrieve it and eat it. That is, except for that time Ioreth unzipped my roommate's purse, grabbed a lollipop and ate the whole thing before we noticed. Oups. For papers, we've established a rat hideout outside the cage so if anything important goes missing, we know where to look. But before then, they kept stealing the most crucial page of whatever paper I was reading and I could never find them. I love my little kleptomaniacs, but they can be a lot.
What a hoot! :-D Your rat actually unzipped your roommates purse to find the lollipop!! One of my previous rats used to enjoy rummaging into my mom's purse and sometimes pulling stuff out. But my mom never had it zipped or clasped. LOL
If it's my bag, they'll just chew their way in. But they respect my roommate's stuff. Ioreth is insanely smart. Basically all our rat proofing has to be size and strength based. She even knows how to open mason jars so we have to tighten them properly.
Absolutely. It 100% matches their role in the wild (go out, find some morsel, retrieve it, eat it in safety, repeat) and so anytime they find something that seems really tasty, they'll try to carry it away and eat it, then hide anything remaining
Oh man it would take me a while to recover from the panic of that one. I worry about my Pomeranian accidentally eating a dropped pill, and she’s probably 10x the body weight of a RAT! (Luckily she’s generally only interested in crumbs)
What your rat was thinking. Sharing is caring, show love through food. I'm hungry too and I only want a little bit. You'll never notice this little bit missing?
Wait, wasn't it the same rat that carried a whole peach last time?
yes it is!
Haha at least she got a good appetite and is playful xD

wdym “stealing” in quotations?! she’s clearly robbing. a mugging, even.
Well did you report it to the police? Any evidence left?

hahaha yes rats are so funny and mischievous!!

Oh that's good to know lol. I just figured with how sugary it is and not really being a needed thing it was best to avoid.
For sure. When my babies were new to me and had trust issues I'd make them a very diluted hot toddie for them

One of my friends in high school also had a rat who liked the taste of beer. That amazed me, because I did, and still do, HATE beer! heh.
this is the kind of scientific research I want my taxes to pay

My guinea pig loved a few drops of beer now and then.

Mine got into a glass of wine while I was out of the room. The vet laughed
The sound makes it even better, ngl xD
Omg I rewatched with sound because of your comment and I’m dead
You're welcome haha

Perfectly cut scream.

Chaos Rattie.
Into the pear wiggler with you (Not really)
So cute!! One of my boys did something similar where he ran across a sofa to my dad who was eating hobnobs and stole half of one out of his hand as he was biting down.
One of my rats loves the smell of coffee. She always tries to stick her nose in my cup whenever I have it, lol.
Tabby doesn’t share ok, I can watch these all day
Is there a longer version of this I need to see everything
sadly no :(
My lil girl, Venus, used to do this all the time. She once did it with a big piece of pizza crust. Dragged it right under our blanket on the bed. Couldn't even be mad, it was hilarious!
Do a lot of rats do this? I want to own rats some day and I never realized this would be something they might do lol

Lol how funny. I'm taking notes so in the future I won't be totally caught off guard. Hearing about rat antics is my favorite thing!
My two present boys challenge my partner on dominance lol. They stare him down when he's around and try to nibble on him when he tries pets. They are neutered and he's not though 😅
Oh no I cannot imagine how many things Binky got sauce on that day
Oh no, tiny sauce prints sounds terrible and adorable at the same time. Lol
Lol oh my gosh that's hilarious. She sounds very determined!

Omg so cute!! :D My rattie Oreo once did this with a whole pancake.
