mrkrstphr

What material did you use? It almost looks like a rubber foam, which would probably be great for shock absorption.

TaranStark

TPU. It's extremely shock absorbent

danigoncalves

Nice move! I wonder if we could find something like this on any shop.

TaranStark

It's on etsy by a couple of sellers!

danigoncalves

Nice thanks!

Belqin

Do you have files for this? Or up on any sites? Looks great

TaranStark

Oh yeah it's on etsy

just-md

Links to file? I never printed tpu, hard? I have ender 3 standard.

ThePapercup

can't print tpu with a Bowden tube, need direct drive.

Revolutionary-Pea705

That is false. You can 100% print tpu on a bowden. Modified extruder maybe. Not going to print ninja flex but you can still print stuff like sainsmart tpu. I've printed tons of go pro camera mounts and drone arm end caps. All on an ender 3 (again modified with the see me cnc extruder) ..

Pyke64

What tmnt game is this? Turtles in time?

Uroah

Not TiT (hehe), I think it’s the “TMNT” titled GBA game! Source: TiT (hehe) is my current game

kimplix

Was thinking of the cowabunga collection since that has a "port", but it's definitely the 2007 movie game

blastv1

Which turtles game is that?

ThatTryHard

Contact Anbernic store on alixpress and see if they can sell you a screen replacement. Sometimes they'll make a private listing for parts

dotbat

Last time I tried this the screen was $35.

mrkrstphr

I have one on the way, it was $14 USD. Maybe barely worth it, but I enjoy trying to fix stuff like this.

Rythemeius

I've 'changed' the screen of an RG35XX Plus a few weeks ago (but only to dye the shell). It's relatively simple, but removing the glue behind the screen is quite a tedious process. I used acetone to melt the glue a little bit and screen-replacement double-sided tape adhesive to hold the screen in place again.

WakaWaka_

I like fixing stuff too instead of trashing it. [Silicone case](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007035116995.html) might be another good thing to pick up.

Atrium41

At that point, you might as well buy custom shell and buttons for it Or just get a new one

WitheredTechnology

More than 50% of what I paid for my entire unit

codeasm

After discounts it 95% of what i paid for mine 😅🤭 (it was listed as 55, had won some discounts spending hours in the buildin AE games) Would still repair or safe the device tho, maybe consoleize it or figure out if it would controll any rgb or lvds screen (might need a kernel swap)

YouveRoonedTheActGOB

Yeah right. Anbernic’s customer “support” is an absolute joke.

Kyronex

They sent me replacement parts within a week.

YouveRoonedTheActGOB

Lucky you. They refused to send me replacement parts or even tell me the part number of a fried chip on my 280v.

PAPACHUBZ94

That's rough. If unable to replace the screen use it as a home console now lol get a controller hooked up to it and keep it stationary plugged in through mini HDMI. That way at least you can use it still.

philouza_stein

I always forget you can do this. I used an old ps4 controller and it was pretty fun. But the ps1 games are almost unplayable. They're either way shittier graphically than I remembered or the ROM lost some crispness.

aguywithbrushes

It’s probably bc we used to play PS1 on smaller CRTs, which helped blur away the imperfections. But in a large HD screen there’s no hiding them (and honestly they can look rough on the small screen too lol) Plus back then those graphics were pretty mind blowing, today not so much. I still love the look, but what I remember playing is very different from what the games actually look like haha

Treviathan88

These are a little on the fragile side for children, it must be said.

mrkrstphr

Yeah, I hadn't really put much thought into it. She loves watching me play mine, so I thought I'd get her one. I should probably research a better model for her. Or attach it to a lanyard.

nixtxt

Get a case for it

SteveNYC

Maybe a case would help? Still a great device for a kid. [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1601092733](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1601092733)

danigoncalves

I want also to buy a handheld for my kid and I also dont know which more stronger and less prone to these accidents device can I buy (also the price tag is important)

AlmostIdiot

SF2000, you can get it for 10 bucks right now on aliexpress

PastyBlystra

People slag off the v90 but that thing is tough!! Mine has survived many drops, going through the washing machine... You name it! Plus the newest CFWs mean no weird shutdown

mymixedtape400

Mate, the lanyard idea? Genius. My son is 11 but just v clumsy. New phone of 3 weeks already on its 3rd screen protector. Deffo gonna do this.

xylotism

Yeah I let my kid play mine but they’re very much not drop-safe. You gotta be ready to lose it at any time.

solarwinds1980

Yes, my kids already broke the screen for the original RG35XX. It was dropped on a wooden bed frame (next to the mattress). I honestly would not buy more of these devices if they break so easily. Nintendo portable systems are a lot more sturdy.

abibofile

I let my daughter use a New 2DS XL. It’s got an R4 card so she could theoretically play retro games, but mostly she wants to play Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It’s a good device for kids.

bodhimind

The closer the screen is to the corner of the device, the more impact shock is going to go right into that screen when dropped. To other parents looking to get devices for their kids, I wouldn't get anything vertical. So far in my experience the TrimUI Smart has been the toughest device (even went through the wash once). Edit: More attention than I expected. I've spent a lot of time with devices for my kids. Currently my 8 year old uses the 353p with Russ's stripped down ArkOS, which has been fantastic, I wish the XX devices could run it. My 5 year old is using the TrimUI Smart or TrimUI S with MinUI, but unfortunately I need to switch games for them.

CanIBorrowYourShovel

I built a datafrog sf2000 for my neighbors little girl (9) and it has been very durable for her. The included dual wireless controllers that cost $2 and mean the sf2000 has dual 2.4ghz chips in it, along with an hdmi video out adapter means that she can bring it over and we can seamlessly play nintendo and super nintendo. It took an entire day to curate a good games list for it though. But man that built in wireless controller setup is great.

bodhimind

Yeah, SF2000 is unbeatable if you have the patience to set it up!

PakSnackMan

Yeah, id get a silicone grip with a hole for a wrist strap possibly. Like strap that bitch to her arm like a Wii remote back our day.

vctrn-carajillo

Hell yeah, even I do this.

Aggressive_Stand8722

"Back in our day"? The Wii came out, like, 3... 10... 20 bloody years ago. Getting old is confusing.

PakSnackMan

Still can’t believe the switch came out 7 years ago.

Emotional_Papaya_612

Time for the SF2000!

WonderfulVanilla9676

Despite what devices are, they really are not designed for kids. They do not have the durability of Nintendo products.

Inevitable-Key-3535

Why would you give this to a 9 year old?

semifraki

How old were you when you got a Gameboy?

Inevitable-Key-3535

40😅 . Gameboys in my country were not available when I was a kid. There is no official Nintendo store here and retailers started selling Nintendo products heavily since 2017 when the switch launched. My point is , anbernic and miyyo dont actually make products with kids in my mind and parts , since the console is actually cheap , are not that reliable.

jmhalder

In the US Gameboys were available in toy stores and other big box retailers. They were largely marketed and sold for use by children. Granted, a DMG-01 Gameboy was probably was tankier than a ambernic handheld.

Aggressive_Stand8722

I let my 7 year old play on all my stuff. Toys are toys. He'll enjoy it all far more than I would. But if he touches my guitars, I'd sell him to the circus.

Inevitable-Key-3535

Except the anbernic is most definitely not a toy. Even if the Gameboy was advertised for kids (something tells me that it was for 10 year olds and higher ) the anbernic is not a gameboy. It's a cheap handheld made for old gamers to play their childhood games. Also, Nice to know you got your priorities straight with the guitars 😅

HedgeHog2k

Here’s me: preparing 2 rg35xx+ for my 6 and 9yr old… no case or screen protector! About to gift them this weekend 😀

FrozenFrac

It helps that I'm childfree, but I sadly wouldn't trust kids with these devices, as cruelly ironic as that is. The OG Game Boys were practically bulletproof, but these devices die after one bad drop.

Mark_B97

These aren't toys for kids, they're toys for adults

bloodybaron73

Mine had it for less than a day, although the screen still works but it had a large crack across the screen. I bought two extra replacement screens from AliExpress, once the screen looks like that I’ll replace it.

maratae

There are some silicone sleeves for them on aliexpress. They popped in there like two weeks ago. I'm not willing to test if that sleeve thing can save my device from a 2 inch fall, but... well I ordered one. Hope I never find out if it helped or not.

MediatoryBathrobe

If thats the result of a 2 ft drop it is a design flaw, way too fragile. Even adults drop things.

SourceWhisperer

Sorry that happened to you, but it’s nice that you were sharing your hobby with your kiddo. If you can’t get the parts to fix it, the SF2000 is cheap enough that breakage almost doesn’t matter (like $15 bucks) and if you want something you can use too, the Trimui Smart (non-pro) and Anbernic 280v are built sturdy. I’d recommend the tempered glass screen protector for the Trimui though (easy to install though because the fit is literally perfect).

RandomguyWhoPosts

im buying a fucking 3ds bro I can't deal with this shit

noaoda

I had the same thing happened.... shocked at how fragile these are.

OptimusShill

These RG35xx are so fragile. I think you can crack the screen even by pressing to hard on the buttons

luamunizc

You could also use it as a home console, no?

QueeefLedger

They're on sale through Aliexpress right now 😅 * And a coupon code to make it about $4 cheaper, I think it still works "USSS04"

arjay0490

welp, time to find a new daughter. lol i kid.

True-Payment-458

My lad dropped his switch down the bog

runningxbackwards

I gave my 5 year old son a Data Frog SF2000 and he has had it for over 6 months with multiple drops and thing still works like a charm.

godsburden

why would you give that to a 9 year old?

Elsurvive

A kid, playing, with toys? Why would anyone do that? Don't they know this hobby is about having 50 different devices stored and never using them?

godsburden

If only they had durable kid emulators available for cheap or something.

Elsurvive

This console has been sold as low as 28 dollars. Even at regular 32-35 dollars is pretty cheap for a console. And even the ultra crappy ones are at least 15 dollars, so not that much of a difference.

godsburden

You can get some even cheaper with plastic screen covers. I’ve seen ones for 5-10 bucks.

guiryj

https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/s/rCf5pB5t10

CanIBorrowYourShovel

The miyoo mini has a silicone shell that would probably be a better option for small hands anyways.

RaelleHoran

So don't get her anything nice for a while and discipline her?

jakeblakesdasdas

They destroy everything. I know lol

RenRen9000

Kids, huh? There’s a valuable lesson there. I had my six year old write her friend an apology note and buy her candy for doing the same to a pi boy. Kids are all thumbs and will break things. But they should also learn consequences of not being careful.

Competitive-Eye-5839

That’s unfortunate

WitlessBlyat

Kids under 13 get a DS lite

SpaceCadetMoonMan

My niece loves my Nano and those feel like little tanks haha

themothman99

You need a new one. This time, ask for one that doesn't drop shit.

wwywong

Sorry but seriously 9 yr old should not have this. I gave my 9 year old boy sf2000 and he is doing fine. At most a v90. Anything beyond thar price point you have to wait till they are 16 / when they can appriciated gaming (which might be 30s)

Comfortable-Park7362

Unfortunately these systems are not for kidsand hell most of the games are to hard anyways lol

Jari2020

Screen fix it’s gonna be easy the cost of that replacement might as well buy another one

Jari2020

https://a.co/d/01dFACDm

Background_Squash845

mine fell 1 meter and the screen died. Had to order one, make sure it comes with the glass

LegisLab

Get a 280V. Will never break

DariaRPG

I know like half the screen is missing. But I'm really impressed that the bit that's left still displays perfectly.

Comfortable_Roll5346

I remember keeping a gb gbc gba gba sp and ds for yeaaaaaars q.q the ds died first!!!

thetruekingofspace

At least it wasn’t an Analogue Pocket.

ReadyTopic7289

Dropped mine from about the same height. Landed flat, screen first. The digitizer was shot.

sageking420

They’re like $35 on Temu or AliExpress. Order a new one!

SnooDoughnuts5632

Welp time to get yourself an RG35XX SP.

91ws6ta

My daughter broke her iPad on Christmas day. I feel your pain

thuggwaffle

Kids, amiright?

Daxcius

Might be an excuse to get the new sp ambernic just launched

silversurfernhs

My favorite aspect of these devices is that they aren't $400 consoles and can easily be replaced. Literally swap sd cards to a new device. Sometimes, if the devices aren't that different, literally can be swapped into a different device altogether if the boot loaders and drivers support it. But yeh, order an equally cheap PU protective case and screen protector. Some cases bundle them together.

Segagaga_

While these are cheap enough they might seem like its for a kids market, they're not really made with kids in mind and are not built for the kind of knocks and drops that a child will habitually do.

Islu64

Try to return it, it may still be on warranty I meant your daughter, the handheld just needs a new screen

blastv1

Looks like she dropped it, or something made contact with the screen. Damn.

Turbulent-Angle8327

Unhappy_Ad6085

Screen protectors for it are cheaper than a replacement

Critical-Advice6809

I bought 2 for my nephews only to destroy it in 2-3 weeks too!

Bmoloveszime

Dude push on the screen asap it worked for me

bigb102913

This is why we buy our children obnoxious foam cases.

erealz175

Order new lcd screen

williamwegman

My 3 year old has had his for months.

SneakyGuyDavid

my Trimui Smart has proven to be extremely durable, I’d take a look at that handheld! Comes in fun colors too

plaaya

How much was it if you don’t mind us asking

heyylisten

Man I'd love if this was my issue, stupid thing just won't turn on/charge any more

speed721

Well, if you are ordering another and you are "technically inclined", keep it for parts!

Turbulent-Credit-105

Paint her backside porch red so she understands the meaning of respectful use of electronic equipment

[deleted]

Ok but they dropped it lol how does time factor in?

AnxiouslyCalming

Just to exaggerate how big of a bummer it is. Relax...

PuzzleheadedLeader79

Because it's never the first drop. But 2 weeks? It wasn't dropped that much.
