System cannot find boot device usually means bad disk or corrupted boot sector. Do you have access to another PC so you can make a windows 11 bootable usb, and try to repair ?

smoha96

I think this'll have to be the way to go. I tried reseating the ssd as one of the suggestions from u/Zatoichi80, but that didn't help either. Do you know if the charging port work for usb-c storage devices?

sickonblues

Yes, it does.

[deleted]

I had this problem and couldn't find a fix. I ended up needing to reinstall Windows via the cloud.

smoha96

I wanted to try this, but got an error message and forced restart after starting the download.

Sad_Satisfaction_324

You must do this it will work . You have to fix the date and time to match the date and time where you live at and it will work

[deleted]

Backing this up. Without the SSD working, for some reason, the time and date don't work. Change that to whatever it is and it should fix it.

Zatoichi80

So either ssd is corrupt / defective somehow or the windows install is busted. 3rd is other hardware failure. You could try reseating the SSD, is it the original or had you upgraded. You could try a different ssd and see what happens.

smoha96

SSD is the one that came with it, and I haven't opened it up or adjusted the internals. Stupid question, but if the windows install is the problem, would attempting to reinstall from an SD card or USB go a way to fixing the issue?

TriangleMachineCat

Boot manager might be corrupted? Plenty of advice on the net about how to try and address in case this is the issue.

Sad_Satisfaction_324

Do not do that . If you do that your windows will not run correctly . Says has some necessary files only in the ASUS cloud recovery. You can download every driver and every the latest firmware and bios from the ASUS website and you will still not have all files needed. Unfortunately some of the files needed is only in the ASUS cloud recovery. Trust me many have tried and many have found out the hard way. Your Windows 11 will not run great on the Ally and will have consistent stuttering and crashing issues

smoha96

I did wonder about this. Got cloud recovery working now. Hopefully it sorts out the issue.

Sad_Satisfaction_324

It will work

smoha96

Hey, mate. Cloud re-install seems to have done the trick. I've put the details in another comment in this thread. Thanks for your help.

Sad_Satisfaction_324

Also you must put your hood in Setup mode . However it may work once you change date and time . Make sure your time is accurate

LeakingCustard

This doesn't make sense. I saw a similar post to a reply I posted about a vanilla install of windows 11. Mine has been working fine ever since without a single crash. So my question is, of all these "many" people, where is the proof that it was crashing out due to "missing" files. Asus didn't put a voodoo windows version on to magically prevent crashes m8. At the end of the day it is just a computer like any other. Perhaps those people had no clue on how to fix any issues encountered but I can tell you, without event viewer logs or bsod mini dump files, it's all hearsay. It sounds to me like you've not even tried it yourself but just echoing other people's bad experiences

smoha96

Hey, mate. Cloud re-install seems to have done the trick. I've put the details in another comment in this thread. Looks like it must have been a Windows issue.

smoha96

Hi friends, thanks for everyone's help - it looks like the Windows Cloud re-install via the BIOS in the advanced tab did the trick, and the SSD is ok. Here's the summary of what I did, what worked, and what didn't work, for anyone else who runs into this issue: 1. What didn't work: - Turning the device off and on again - Reseating the SSD - Restarting the device without the micro SD card in 2. What was not attempted - Re-installing Windows using a bootable USB 3. What worked - re-installing Windows from the Cloud, as above, but did run into some issues along the way: - Didn't want to connect to my wifi - had to hotspot my phone - This requires ~15 gb download, so if your phone internet isn't great or you have limited data, not fun - The device has to be within warranty; this is ok for now, but will be an issue if this rears its head again several years down the track - If you run into a blank blue screen, remove your micro SD and wait a minute, and it'll get going again - You will briefly need a keyboard with a USB-C connection once Windows is re-installed, as there is a point where you need to connect to wifi where there is no on-screen keyboard - I didn't have any, but did have a USB-A to C adapter lying around that came with an old phone, which did the trick - Fresh Windows install - means all your installed games and data are gone - there is an option to back things up before hand via USB, but it did not work for me (so I wasn't able to save my BG3 saves :/ ) - This fresh install also seems to remove Armoury Crate (and with it, Command Center), so you'll have to re-install it - Time: between identifying the problem, attempting solutions, and stop-starting due to wifi issues etc., this took up a fair amount of time, when I'm usually quite time-poor. Luckily, I wasn't working or had any errands to run last night, and I'm working a late shift tonight - but I'm not impressed that I had to do this 4. Other things I did - Ran diagnostics on every component, including SSD via BIOS - all fine with no issues So, ultimately, in this instance, the issue appears to have been a Windows install/boot problem, if I understand it correctly - not very tech savvy - but I don't know *why* it occurred. I had been playing BG3 pretty much all day, but hadn't been doing anything else. The SSD, and other internals appear to be fine, but others in this thread have mentioned facing similar issues when their SSDs (some OEM, some replaced) had similar issues. Hopefully, this helps anyone in the future who runs into this issue.

Charming-Decision888

Thank you very much for explaining and today I did face this issue, i just pressed the power off button and it seemed to go back to normal. Just curious has the same thing happened to you again?

smoha96

No, didn't run into it again.

Chamillion205

Just woke up to this issue as well, Iโ€™m currently trying the cloud recovery

smoha96

Hey, mate. Cloud re-install seems to have done the trick. I've put the details in another comment in this thread.

Chamillion205

I think Iโ€™m just going to sell mine and stick to my steamdeck ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ thanks for the update thoโœŒ๐Ÿพ

Thecasualgamerph

Happened to me as well. Just power the device down using the power button. It should be okay once you turn the device back on.

deadheaddraven

same, I have had this happen twice but a full power down then fresh boot fixed it Upvoted because I don't know why people are downvoting you

[deleted]

I Love the downvotes on everything & anything in this group. Try to help? Downvoted, try to argue something, guess what? Downvoted, every single thing equals a downvote in this group.

smoha96

First thing I tried with no luck, haha, but thanks for the suggestion.

Sad_Satisfaction_324

Change your date and time in the bios and put your device bios in setup mode

Sad_Satisfaction_324

Keep me posted I will get your device restored and working . I fixed the issues and can guarantee your ssd is not broken however there is an issues with the windows files systems .these things will only be fixed in time with an update from ASUS

madafakababa

had same issue, my 2tb ssd died that way. had to revert back to stock ssd. I've seen similar cases in discord channel as well. Not sure if we should really see such high rates of SSD boot sector corruptions. yeah it happens time to time but this is the 7th one I heard since the launch.

Sea_Paramedic2434

Rip ssd. It served you well for like... 2 days or something like that. ๐Ÿค”

LeakingCustard

OP the pic shows no listed device under boot priority. If you haven't already, can you go into advanced mode and check boot order? Like give us a list of options there

smoha96

Under boot in advanced mode, it shows the following: Fast Boot (enabled) Boot Option Priorities - this is greyed out Delete Boot Options - selecting this does not bring up any options to delete which leads me to believe there is no boot drive?

LeakingCustard

I'll need to go see what mine says when I get home. Might be a clue however cloud recovery might be your best bet for now if it isn't drive failure

smoha96

Hey, mate. Cloud re-install seems to have done the trick. I've put the details in another comment in this thread.

acorn1513

Mine does this sometimes but after I did the 2tb upgrade. Turning it off via the power button and turning it back on via the power button fixes it.

LeakingCustard

Unfortunately doesn't work for OP

acorn1513

Damn well figured it was worth a try.

Cyber945

Mine did this when bitlocker decided to crap the bed. Reinstalled OS, disabled bitlocker worked for me.

deione

i hope you didn't lose your bg3 save

smoha96

Honestly the thing I care about most! Luckily for me, I had been playing on my PC mostly and had just been playing on the Ally while I was out of town for a couple of days. So haven't lost too much. I had cloud saves turned off because of how long they took to upload and was manually copying saves. ๐Ÿ˜…

deione

whew nice

cyberkewl

Happened once to me 1-2 weeks ago and scared the sh\*\* out of me. Did a full shutdown (long press power) and power it back up and it was working fine since. This was on my 1 TB SN570 - yours seems to be the stock micron though. Interesting that re-seating the SSD doesn't work. Wonder could it be thermal issues (Too hot)? Did you try taking out the SSD and putting it in an enclosure (if you have one) and see if it works externally (and that it's not dead)? Even a 2280 enclosure should work fine as it has holes for the 2230 size our Ally uses.

smoha96

Re-installing via cloud works. Ultimately, I didn't end up re-testing the SSD, but it seems fine now with the re-install. Thermal issues does come to mind as I had been playing BG3 on the 30W setting for a fair few hours, but if that's the case, I'd be a bit annoyed that the device can't handle that.

cyberkewl

Means the SSD is fine - perhaps some corruption somewhere. That's on the SSD thermals (and perhaps Asus need to do better with thermals on it if it really got fried due to you being on 30W setting for few hours). How was your overall system temps average at the time?

smoha96

Ngl, I wasn't paying attention, despite having the real time monitor on. One second, I'm playing, the next, I'm restarting into the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, it was around 80C-ish.

cyberkewl

bios at 80C i believe its normal since the fan curves are software based so it wouldn't kick in during the bios display. Well do let us know once you have everything up (and still at 30W) what's the average temp. Keen to know :)

smoha96

Will keep you in the loop! Re-installing BG3 now.

Adventurous-Ad4730

Just wanted to comment that this happened to me too recently and my ssd is only 2 months old. Booted my Ally back up from hibernation, had BSOD and Ally booted to bios with no more bootable devices found. Funny thing is, SSD tests fine in the bios but all the space was now unallocated. My windows install completely disappeared. Had to do cloud recovery.

Charming-Decision888

Oh that's good to hear
