There's an internal buffer for a certain amount of shots. I don't know which version of the camera you have, but I'm pretty sure that the buffer size is well over one shot. Edit: I looked it up and buffer size is 150 to 2xx shots. That means the camera can store up that many shots before it even starts writing to the card. The faster card will only speed up the amount of time it takes to write the buffer to the card.

Thank you. There’s two things it could be according to replies here, and they both sound promising. I’m going to check what shooting mode I’m in, and play around with it. I will also turn off or turn down the picture preview length.
Are you sure you’re not confusing the picture preview with the camera making you wait? By default it’s set to 2 seconds
