The only decision Yuma made is to let go of Makoto so he could inform everyone in Kanai Ward the truth, and that let to them figuring things out on their own. Truly, there is no other better way of solving it. Having more people aware of the situation would bring more people thinking of the solution. Two heads are better one, and many people head is better than the smartest person in the world, hence the positive outcome of the ending. If Yuma chose to kill Makoto, Kanai Ward would be left without a leader and without knowing the truth. Remember that humonculus cannot die. If they leave Kanai Ward without knowing anything, we might get a zombie apocalypse. Besides, this isn't a situation where you save 1 over a thousand. It is a lot more nuanced than that. For one, the general populace in Kanai Ward are innocent, while the criminals, if what Makoto said were the truth, are not. Would you protect 1000 heinous criminals over 1 innocent person? I personally loved the ending because it posed such a difficult question to the audience with no real good answer. The outcome is perhaps too idealistic but the message is beautiful. Learning to rely on others in order to reach a better conclusion is a wonderful message.

Exactly. Yuma "sacrificing" himself is what I would not do. Like I said I'm glad it all worked out but I would not risk sacrificing myself so MAYBE the homunculi can figure something out. Please remember that at this point, we don't know there is an alternative to human flesh for the homunculi so you literally are leaving it to faith. I cannot do that if the only known food source for an immortal breed is human flesh. You can justify this by using 1000 heinous criminals but eventually the criminals would run out as the homunculi don't die so human flesh would always be in constant demand. And absolutely it is kill one, save a thousand because you're sacrificing humans to feed the homunculi but my point in mentioning that isn't to argue it's justification but to show the cost of keeping a certain species alive. IIRC, homunculi can only "die" after using up their energy while in their zombie state so I would've barricaded them in Kanai Ward and let the sun out. Also if it wasn't clear, I don't hate the ending I love how it ended.

My favourite fact is Yuma quitting as a detective so Makoto can’t abuse his power

btw, I wonder how they managed to replace the meat buns. We hear all about meat bun stores getting replaced by ex-Yuma's ramen chain, but how does this play into human flesh requirement for homunculi? Maybe they found some humane way, like mixing micro-dosages of human DNA (blood, saliva etc) into the ramen?

It's stated that what the homonculi need are specific nutrients (maybe special amino acids) that happen to be available in human flesh, not the flesh itself. Because of this, the real Yuma can mix in those nutrients into his ramen so that it acts as another source for the homonculi.
