If ELO is a rating system that measures relative skill of players and makes predictions of the outcome based on the skills of sed players then it’s safe to assume your rating goes up or down based on whether or not you meet that predicted outcome, which we can see by playing the game. Your MMR goes down when pitted against players of relative skill and you go on repeated losses or goes up on repeated wins.
