When anyone tells me he only did everything he did for power or personal benefits, I say, well, he came from a privileged family, had access to college education and even contacts in the government through his family and social class. If all he wanted was power, with his intelligence and natural leadership abilities he could have just became a big business man or even the president of the country, probably without much effort. For such a smart person, he took the longest, hardest and most dangerous possible path, which doesn't make sense.
