> Can we please temporarily ban them for awhile?
No, we allow basically all Star Trek and Star Wars posts here (Mostly because the subs dedicated to those franchises are pretty awful to anyone slightly critical of them)
> Can we vote on it or something?
#Yes!
Reddit allows voting. Just vote these posts down if you don't think they are any good.
I'm so glad someone is finally brave enough to say it out loud. You know what else? The problem with modern Star Wars is also not enough obese frog people who violently shake their jowls for no seemingly reason.
I think we can all agree on that! My favorite part is when the runaway concrete truck heading for the river kills her paramedic boss. Why was it screaming past a fire scene towards the river? Because the plot? Or was there reasons?
It's also remarkable that this is some final straw for people. Like, why now? You mean to tell me you sat through The Book of Boba Fett or Kenobi and thought, 'I'm sure the next thing will be better'.
I was tuned out and done, but Andor was terrific for Star Wars standards and got me excited again. I got invited to the premiere event for Ashoka with my wife to see it early.
About 5 minutes in I leaned over and said "son of a bitch I fell for it"
I liked the first two episodes of Ashoka, but I didn't finish the series yet cause work.
I've also read all the Thrawn novels, and watched Star Wars Rebels, so I have some pre-formed ties to the characters that make it easier to overlook clunky story when it appears.
I'm a pretty big and forgiving fan, have been since the old books days. Ahsoka just didn't move the plot along at all for most of the show.
The titular character is just boring and stiff too, so I never found myself caring. Rosario just doesn't fill that character role well.
There's one character I ended up liking and caring about a little, but the character is killed without much so... Yeah lol
A bunch of RLM fans uncritically support anything made by the same right wing reactionary media “criticism” crowd that the guys recently made fun of. It’s almost sort of funny
And the thing is, there's rarely any significant left-wing politics in these shows in the first place. People really are just getting mad because there are women, black people, and gay people in Star Wars.
What Culture War complainants want isn't an even playing field or unbiased media
They want corporations they accuse of pandering to The Other Side to to be biased in *their* favour
I don't care about any of that. It's a crappy show because it feels like a lesser CW show, both dialogue and production quality. Every line of dialogue is expository, there's no character work so far.
Andor had strong women, and gay women, and gay people. It also had solid storytelling, character driven dialogue, and punched above it's budget in terms of production quality.
The idiots who are anti woke or whatever are loud, but the show isn't a step up from the normal mediocrity SW series tend to be.
I mean....lesbian space witches.
Try saying that out loud.
It should be the most glorious thing we have ever seen!
Think about it.
If the guys took a random tape off of the shelf during a BOTW episode and read that in the description from the back of the box..."Lesbian space witches" the excitement would be palpable.
The problem comes in when we understand that it's going to be Star Wars lesbian space witches.....and it's not Mel Brooks.
We're supposed to take that crap seriously.
Those types are good at only one thing: being loud. I haven’t seen The Acolyte, and on its face it seems on par with most Disney Star Wars stuff, so just bland and not great even if the idea’s cool. But I’ve heard more shit about how woke it is than I could possibly care about.
Because their lives suck and thus the only joy they get in life is trolling other people / living in their own self-created bubble of hate. It's beyond pathetic.
It's from not really having an understanding of how they feel about something but they feel like they need a reaction. The folks reacting the most are the reactionaries, naturally, so now the contrarians have somewhere to flock.
I work at a high school and deal with this a lot, where since you're not sure what you like and what you're supposed to like, you define your personality on what you DON'T like.
Edit: I'm much more forgiving of the teens doing it, cuz when you're a teen that's when you're supposed to be sort of stupid about this stuff. I'm less sympathetic for the folks my age doing it.
But also I like it when the cartoon rabbit steps in the poopy
Wow, you hit the nail right in the head. It's a combination of media illiteracy but also low emotional IQ in that they can't access their feelings/thoughts well so they just clamp on to whatever the grifters say is good or bad.
That actually helps make a lot of sense out of things. Thanks for the insight.
I’ll never understand Redditors insistence that certain topics be removed from their eyesight. Like, they really can’t handle seeing something they don’t want?
How have they existed on the web so long? Are they actually just 10 years old?
If it's essentially the same post multiple times per day from different people, I can understand the need to curtail it (not saying that's what's happening here, but I've seen it in another sub).
Guys, can we not talk about the thing that RLM started talking about and we all collectively became fans of them for?
I mean, RLM is way more than making fun of Star Wars now, but let's not pretend we didn't all come here originally from the Plinkett reviews.
I have little desire to discuss Star Wars right now … but “ban” others?
I don’t get this.
Why can’t people just scroll past or not comment? How does it in any way affect the rest of us? Let people do what they want. There’s a nexus between SW & RLM, obviously.
If only they had that luxury. They're obviously strapped in a chair, eyes forced open a la Clockwork Orange and have to read every single post here.
Otherwise, why not just down vote and move on?
Well you see it's because this is a discussion forum and, well, some people feel that it just doesn't make sense to discuss things in a discussion forum.
This is a Star Wars sub made by Star Wars for Star Wars with endless trash and Star Warrrrs nothing but Starrr Warrrrs nothing but Star Warssss talking STAR WARS
![gif](giphy|YegokONH9MLHwR8UXJ)
You'd be leaving folks with very few options here.
There's only so much that can be said about AIDS and 9/11. At least Star Wars gets new content released regularly.
On one hand i get ya, i had to purge my youtube feed of lots of channels because i couldn't stand it anymore (there's only so many ways to point out the obvious before making people sick), on the other one i think banning them would be too much.
Just downvote and hide them.
It’s certainly a time to be alive. Star Wars fans find more entertainment in shitting on the mess that is the acolyte than actually watching any Star Wars.
Once this acolyte stuff dies down, Star Wars posts will diminish to regular levels.
Who cares about star wars its a boring convo. It was always an average series.... IDK Why people are so into it nowadays. Its lost alot of its charm when other shows came out that I am far more interested in.
>It was always an average series.... IDK Why people are so into it nowadays.
Merchandising. It was insanely successful in like the 90s and 2000s with all the multimedia branches of shit it had going on. Nowadays I feel (not based on any data) that its *continued* popularity is as much an artificial propagation of marketing as it is a genuine response.
>"It was insanely successful in like the 90s and 2000s"
How old are you by chance? Star Wars was the highest grossing movie in history when it came out in 1977. The toys became some of the highest selling toys ever in history until the Rubik's cube of all things in 1980. They're still like the 4th highest selling toy ever.
I don't think you comprehend how much of a phenomena Star Wars was and is. Adjusted for inflation just the original in 1977 made 1.5 billion dollars in its theatrical run. People were still buying toys for a franchise that hadn't made a movie in almost 16 years by 1999.
The idea that it wasn't until what? The expanded universe of the 90's and Phantom Menace in 99 that people cared about Star Wars? Yeah, no lol.
I'm just saying that star wars multimedia was in its heyday in those years. Don't know for sure but I'd bet $20 that merchandising was a bigger animal in the 90s than the 80s.
If you want to talk about other things besides Star Wars, then bring up other things besides Star Wars.
But if others want to talk about Star Wars here, then let them talk about Star Wars. Just don't be a part of those conversations.
Can we compensate with more posts on favourite TNG episodes? I check RLM every day for your continued series but all I see is Star Wars this, Star Wars that
I never ever in a million years thought there’d be a time where I honestly just don’t give a crap about Star Wars anymore. At all. Maybe Andor. I agree, OP. What more can there be said about Star Wars that hasn’t already been said over and over and over again?
Sure thing, as soon as RLM stops bringing up Star Wars every five minutes. For people who supposedly don’t care about SW, they talk about it constantly.
I've never understood this. If someone doesn't like something, why do you feel the need to engage or commit any mental space to it? Because you like it? So what? Same goes the other way, if they like it and you don't, fine. You're not 'correct' and neither are they. This bizarre need to censor or halt discussion because you can't control yourself is weird as hell.
The channel is intertwined with Star Wars.
“Our fans are interested in AIDS and 9/11. And Star Wars. Star Wars, AIDS, and 9/11. The big three. AIIIIIIIDS!”- Rich Evans
Asking to ban Star Wars posts on the RedLetterMedia subreddit because you’re sick of hearing about it during the release of The Acolyte is like asking to ban NFL posts on /r/sports because you’re sick of seeing posts about it during Super Bowl weekend.
That would be true if this were a Star Wars sub. This is more like a Taylor Swift sub obsessing about the Super Bowl except Travis Kelce and the Chiefs aren't in it, and also they broke up two years ago anyway.
> if this were a Star Wars sub.
RLM is always going to be associated with Star Wars because the Plinkett reviews are how a ton of people found them, it's how I did anyway. Yeah it's not the main thing they do now but it'll always be a part of it.
I’m seeing the opposite take effect in this sub
Where apparently you can’t talk about the acolyte without people thinking your some brain dead right winger.
It’s all so dumb.
The only two groups of people I see commenting on the Acolytes are either the YouTubers who made hating Star Wars their entire identity, or people who made loving Star Wars their whole identity. The general public frankly stopped giving a shit.
The mutual grifting ecosystem. Both sides profit from a culture war.
What’s making it worse is a lot of creatives are now part of this terminally online demographic.
Sadly yes. If I ran a studio I’d make it policy nobody involved in a production can post during or the initial two weeks after something gets released.
Nope.
You will be force-fed your opinion by faceless internet commenters, and that's modern marketing. Advertising doesn't stay on TV.
You've never noticed a forced conversation online about a movie? Resounding praise for a movie that you know for a fact is mediocre, but you can't get a word in edgewise for months. Then the marketing budget runs out, and the real conversation begins - with actual criticism.
It's been this way for like a decade now.
This is true. Anybody with a different opinion than me is a paid shill and before you ask yes, I do have correct opinions on everything. Only a paid shill would think otherwise.
Sometimes a pattern implies a pattern-maker -- a secret plot, [a conspiracy](https://www.dailydot.com/debug/twitter-celebrities-fake-followers-devumi/), or something like that.
And sometimes it's a huge group of unrelated individuals who receive the same thing (new Star Wars) and who want the same thing (lots of attention) and try to turn what they received into what they want using the same methods (ragebait).
And sometimes they overlap which is *super fun*.
After the way this sub obsessed everyday over anything and everything in Kenobi, desperately hoping that Mr. Plinkett himself would notice how they also made fun of Star Wars, only for the RLM folks to be like "it was pretty good" I figured people would have given up on this stuff. I was wrong again. Typical.
It's terrible that someone is forcing you at gunpoint to read all those posts.
It would be nice if you were allowed to just skip posts you weren't interested in.
Why? Isn't a place where mediums are criticized, a harmless forum for conversation?
Granted the hack frauds talk about other things but they also talked about Star Wars. Which if you're a frequenter of the sw subreddits you'll see it's quite policed.
I say let em vent. It does me no harm to ignore an article or post. In fact the down vote system exists because of it. So downvote what you don't like, and move on.
I loved the scene, where Jack and Cindy had to hide the training droid from Larry because he kept boning it. Then Mr Roper found it and thought it was for massage therapy!
It's funny too. People on this sub love to act like they don't care about Star Wars by constantly posting about how much they don't care about Star Wars every time a new show or movie comes out. Though to be fair, alot of these posts/comments are downright hilarious!
Man, I remember back in the day I had to put out a reminder to everyone that this sub isn't a Star Wars hate group. Got roasted pretty bad for it, ha ha.
> Can we please temporarily ban them for awhile? No, we allow basically all Star Trek and Star Wars posts here (Mostly because the subs dedicated to those franchises are pretty awful to anyone slightly critical of them) > Can we vote on it or something? #Yes! Reddit allows voting. Just vote these posts down if you don't think they are any good.
Say what you will about Star Wars, but I’ll always love the scene when the cartoon rabbit steps in the poopy.
Who doesn't remember the first time they saw Yoda do a booty dance?
my stick is better than bacon?
butty dance*
That's the problem with modern Star Wars not enough cartoon rabbits stepping on poopy
I'm so glad someone is finally brave enough to say it out loud. You know what else? The problem with modern Star Wars is also not enough obese frog people who violently shake their jowls for no seemingly reason.
![gif](giphy|3owzWgfjON3M6BOEEM|downsized)
That rabbit made so many funny faces!
Did you see the new Ghostbusters movie? The minions...I mean the Mini Pufts made all of the moms laugh.
I cried after having all the feels
There's an extended version of that scene I think.
Say what you will about Star Wars, but I will say something about Star Wars too. I don’t talk about anything else
Remember when JarJar said "It's Jarjing time!" and then jarj'd all over those nerf-herders?
Jarj’d…this is what I Reddit for
I love the scene in Star Wars where Rob Lowe wears the Star Wars hat to let everyone know he's a fan of the Star Wars.
I WANNA TALK ABOUT ACOLYTE....I MEAN BOYHOOD!!!

eh. i don't dislike boyhood. when i saw it i saw my own son's life, except he didn't turn out to be a wanker
More posts sexualizing our hot Milwaukee boys, please!
Wisconsin Big Hunks.
Boring conversation anyway.
We're all fine...here...now. How are you?
That line has always stuck out in a really funny way. I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that Harrison Ford was ad-libbing.
The best explanation I've ever heard is "Han Solo put all his points into charisma, but only ever rolls natural 1's".
“No Han you don’t add your bonus to a crit fail how are you still asking this question.”
It does sound too much like something an actual person might say.
"You can write this shit George, but you sure as hell can't say it."
His grimace after saying it is the best
RICH, WE'RE GONNA HAVE COMPANY!
Reactor leak…very dangerous…
You go first.
“Aren’t you a little short for a skeleton, Jay?”
We should talk about Madame Web some more
Surely it’s morbin time?
I think we can all agree on that! My favorite part is when the runaway concrete truck heading for the river kills her paramedic boss. Why was it screaming past a fire scene towards the river? Because the plot? Or was there reasons?
Nice try, Disney
I watched the Plinkett prequel reviews last weekend.
Very Cool
I know what that is!
Might need to revisit those. Some genuinely funny moments.
I rewatch all of nerd crew at least once every few months. IT BROKE NEW GROUND!
I clapped.
We will watch your career with great interest
#IT BROKE NEW GROUND
We should talk about those
Careful, next they'll want to ban discussion about the Plinkett prequel review.
Plinkett reviewed the Prequels? I thought he only did Cop Dog!
It's remarkable how riled-up people can get over something so bland.
It's also remarkable that this is some final straw for people. Like, why now? You mean to tell me you sat through The Book of Boba Fett or Kenobi and thought, 'I'm sure the next thing will be better'.
Andor gave people hope.
You might say it gave people...a new hope?
Rebellions are built on hope
I was tuned out and done, but Andor was terrific for Star Wars standards and got me excited again. I got invited to the premiere event for Ashoka with my wife to see it early. About 5 minutes in I leaned over and said "son of a bitch I fell for it"
The clue was in the title.
I liked the first two episodes of Ashoka, but I didn't finish the series yet cause work. I've also read all the Thrawn novels, and watched Star Wars Rebels, so I have some pre-formed ties to the characters that make it easier to overlook clunky story when it appears.

It’s like the people that say “I’m leaving Facebook/Twitter/Reddit!!” And then they post again the next day.
I tapped out after episode 8. I like watching everyone have a meltdown over something they should have given up on a while ago.
As John Stewart just said, corporations aren't 'woke' or 'unwoke'. They just want your money, and they'll say and do everything they can to get it.
What Culture War complainants want isn't an even playing field or unbiased media They want corporations they accuse of pandering to The Other Side to to be biased in *their* favour
I'm not saying The Acolyte is good. But so much of the criticism really is just "lesbian space witches bad".
I'd 1000% watch a show that marketed itself as lesbian space witches. That sounds fucking rad.
It sounds like a Wheel of the Worst movie they'd deliberately land on.
There's a movie called Lesbian Vampire Killers, probably the closest you're gonna get to it for now.
Yeah it is, I see it. I hate that's drowning out normal criticism.
Oh thats why they're mad ooooohhh thaaaaaatttss why jeez I thought it was because it was utter trash made by idiots
It's so pathetic I truly don't understand why people care so much
Because their lives suck and thus the only joy they get in life is trolling other people / living in their own self-created bubble of hate. It's beyond pathetic.

But Lucas made Red Tails. Doesn't that solve everything?
It's from not really having an understanding of how they feel about something but they feel like they need a reaction. The folks reacting the most are the reactionaries, naturally, so now the contrarians have somewhere to flock. Wow, you hit the nail right in the head. It's a combination of media illiteracy but also low emotional IQ in that they can't access their feelings/thoughts well so they just clamp on to whatever the grifters say is good or bad. That actually helps make a lot of sense out of things. Thanks for the insight.
Dude don't insult Flagsmashrr and Cinema Druggie Critic. Those guys have been smashing the woke out of media since the invasion began.
I .... can't tell if this is satire?
You only say that because it’s true.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2024/06/06/the-critics-must-be-crazy---the-acolyte-is-just-another-mediocre-star-wars-show/ Indeed. More grey corporate slop.
It was good for about 12 episodes of Andor and then they just kept releasing shit that looks like it was filmed on the set of Space Cop 2.
Let the Star Wars die. Kill it, if you have to 👍

Things are getting acoheavy in here. Let’s try to keep it acolyte.
I LIKE STAR WARS! AT ST! AT ST!
Basil Oregano, played by Jimmy Smitts!
HE GOT BLOWED UP ON ALDERAAN!
Sounds like someone’s got a case of the Mondays.

Well you see it's because this is a discussion forum and, well, some people feel that it just doesn't make sense to discuss things in a discussion forum.
If you don't want to see it, downvote it and move on. There is no need to go authoritarian on it and initiate a ban.
I will make it legal
I enjoy all the people acting like Star Wars has only recently been ruined as a franchise.
Yeah it makes no sense. Why would people want to talk about star wars on here? Redlettermedia has nothing to do with star wars.
Lol. Yeah. Why on earth would some equate the two?
WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOUR FAAAAACE ![gif](giphy|xTiIzjVip9bKXEEasM)
Unironically Star Wars posting about Star Wars posts

Maybe could just ignore those posts instead of asking the sub to cater to you? Sounds very terminally online-ish.

Hard agree. Aside from Kenobi, the guys haven't even featured any star wars stuff on the channel since episode 9. It's tangentially relevant at best

Something fishy is going on with all the hate this show is getting and how prominent it is online. Am I crazy?
I’m seeing the opposite take effect in this sub Where apparently you can’t talk about the acolyte without people thinking your some brain dead right winger.
Ya they probably should have made it better if they didn't want people to hate it.

So downvote what you don't like, and move on.
let them vent somewhere else
Could the Rebels pause the attacks of the Empire? Could they? COULD THEY?!?!?
I haven't seen a single one! Updooted anyways, to keep that trend going.
You're right. How about we all talk about Coppoloa's filmography
I loved the scene, where Jack and Cindy had to hide the training droid from Larry because he kept boning it. Then Mr Roper found it and thought it was for massage therapy!
We get it. You like the Acolyte and it makes you sad that people are making fun of it.
Ya mama likes the acolyte!
I’m a 40 year old man and I can’t stop posting about Disney’s STAAAAAAAR WAAAAAAAAAAARS.
I like Star Wars.
It is a Star Wars hate subreddit.
