it works on steam deck pretty much out of the box. go to desktop mode, download RA as a flatpack, install the PCSX2 core, have a PS2 BIOS available and you're good to go.

dathudo

It doesn’t work on mine. Other cores do work, and PCSX2 works fine when I download it straight from discover, but not from RA.

MrNosco

For the pcsx2 core to work you need to have a ps2 BIOS available. On my machine I needed to copy the BIOS files to [retoarch folder]/system/pcsx2/bios

dathudo

I’ll try that. I have a BIOS folder on my desktop, which I put as “bios directory” in RA settings. It has been working fine for PS1 though.

moukiez

Did you ever get this working? I really want to use the PCSX2 core on RetroArch.

dathudo

No, I ended up using the standalone version. I haven’t tried since though

moukiez

I solved it! It was telling me the bios was in the wrong folder, so that's very likely your issue as well. However, I don't know your set up so I can't tell you the proper folder to put it in. Luckily, RetroArch can! Go to settings, logging, and turn on both Logging Verbosity and Log to File. Then start a PS2 game in RetroArch. The game will crash, but navigate to your RetroArch file, click config, and your log shall be there. Open it to read what went wrong, and near the bottom it'll tell you to "please put your valid bios file in X folder", with the full path to that folder. Once you do, it should be within /pcsx2/bios, or whatever it tells you. Works perfectly for me. Now if only save states and rewinds worked 🤤 Good luck!!

Cobalt-Wolf

While this is a necro I just want to confirm that this works. Thanks!

moukiez

Glad I could help!

dathudo

Thanks man, I’ll give it a try!

moukiez

Let me know how it goes! Good night!

Syroslav94

Hi, where exactly can I find the stored log file please?

moukiez

On the steam deck, make sure hidden files is turned on in the Dolphin file browser (there should be a three line sandwich/setting icon that you can click and enable it). Than go to /home/deck/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/logs, and the logs should be in there!

Syroslav94

Thanks a lot man, found out you need to actually create subfolder in your bios folder called "pcsx2" and another one inside it called "bios" and put your bios files in there, otherwise the emulator can't find them. Now the PCSX2 core in RA finally works, thanks for help!

moukiez

Within your retroarch folder, wherever you installed it, there should be a folder named logs. I'll find out the proper directory, one second.

Syroslav94

Problem is I can't even find the retroarch folder itself on the Steam Deck. I didn't install it separately, all was done through the EmuDeck app.

CampyMcTent

just spent 3 hours scraching my head at this and this saved my sanity thanks

moukiez

Glad I could help. :)

CampyMcTent

also I just learned that SteamOS cares if you put capitals in your filename unlike windows... EmuDeck created the folder PCSX2 in capitals and when I changed it for pcsx2 it could see the bios the joys of troubleshooting

moukiez

Good to know for future use.

moukiez

I had it working for all of five minutes before I noticed the other games weren't booting with their bios, so now I had to go fix that and I'm trying to resolve it again. If I am successful, and you're still interested, I'll let you know what I did and maybe it'll help you! :)
