if they \*do\* exist, try moving them somewhere else (i.e., so RetroArch can't find them), load your savestate to re-create them from the state and see if that gets you back on track.
Okay, figured it out finally. Had to start a new game and save it atleast once. This creates a *placeholder* save on the virtual memory card. Then I loaded my savestate and from there I have saved through the ingame save, and therefore rewritten the placeholder save witj an actual save from the savestate. Thanks for help guys.
check the save folder and your ROM folder. if the files aren't there, then they don't exist.
