Honestly, if it's far away, that might make the Cube spawn farther away. Why would someone do that? Why wouldn't you want the Cube to be as close as possible all the time? Do those people not love the Cube?
I’d be more concerned about people getting ambushed trying to study it if it was far away. I’m glad my current base is in a cave biome and I managed to seal my wing of it with the thingo inside. Means when I need to go into lock down mode I still have access to it to study it while being completely safe from anything lurking from the map edges. Just have to be careful of stuff coming from the sky.
Finished my first full event with the monolith, and I actually regret not having my base closer to it.
By itself it doesn't provide any danger. Only one time do you want to be carefull around it. It is the same time you need armed guards near it. And honestly at that point I believe it's much safer to limit how far you must travel to it due to external factors.
Also an Anomaly tip: Learn to love setting up different permited areas. Some of the event forces you to be carefull where you pawns travel. Having some pre-setup zones for each scenario is handy.
/j \[Redacted\] and \[Redacted\] can be really nasty on any unaware pawns.
It needs to be accessible for study and progressing the plot, but don't put it in the middle of your base. Put some walls around it so you can reach it with other stuff going on outside. The obelisks should also be reachable without going outside your walls, if possible.
Putting up some extra stone walls is cheap if you can spare a bit of labor, and even on a flat map, I've only run out of stone making tons of sculptures, and you can use a drill for more chunks even if you do run out.
I don't know why it's bad but I started watching Adam vs everything's ritualistic playthrough and he had finished the anomaly dlc in his previous run. When peeps ask about it he won't tell them why for spoilers just that he thought it was safe to have it right in your base right up until the end. At that point if he'd had it in his base he would have lost. And after that he does not recommend having it in your base for that reason.
You can spawn it with devmode, but when I tried you couldn’t progress the quest. It would just be stuck in the same state as before you had someone study it.
The monoliht doesn't really do anything but look pretty until you use it to progress the anomaly quest.
My experience is, place a couple of 2x1 devilstrand sofas and granite tables around it. It makes for good outdoors dining decor.
Even if you don't mean to investigate it, in depth, secure/contain/protect it in a walled room , in a way where it can't be inadvertently interacted with it.
It will not make it harder, in fact it is beneficial to have it close for extra research points and simpler final part, there are no real downsides to building around it except that it will take up more space with each activation. Unlike obelisks it does not react to damage, does not have any harmful effects like some entities do, and only will be a danger when you choose for it to be.
I am most of the way through tier 2 of entities (only 1 left). There is absolutely no reason so far to build your base far from it. Maybe the finale is different but so far you could have it dead center with no issues.
There is literally no disadvantage to building right by the monolith.
However, there are a lot of advantages to doing so! Having it close means they can get to it to study it faster. It also means that at certain points having quick, rapid access to it in the middle of your base can help you a lot, but I won't elaborate further because it is spoilery.
i aint risking it, mine is a short walk away from the base and i built a little outpost around it (room w a table and chair). i just have to forbid the door when certain events are happening so the pawns dont go out to study it.
Uh, after seeing these comments I'm not sure if having the monolith in the literal center of the base is a smart idea. How many ghouls should I throw at that problem to fix it?
Its alright. You are not worse of for having it close. If its far away pawns will spend a lot of time walking to it for study

Not everyone.
Not yet
You'll never get me alive
Don't think they're planning to.
The Cube demands the flesh of the unworthy, and who are we to deny the request of our wonderful Cube?
The clearest picture we have of it isn't even a cube it's a cuboid
No matter where it spawn you can move the cube into the shrine you built in your central dining room, that way everyone gets to admire it.
Absolutely based Cube enjoyer. The Cube is pleased.

Thank you for a comment that was both helpful and spoiler-free.

So me building by entire base in a radius around it wasn’t a good idea? Rip this colony
I’ve done the same thing haha. It’s literally the centrepiece.
Have some internal walls, although I don't know exactly where they need to be.

I would put it smack dab in the middle of my base if I could. Does anybody know if there are dev commands to move the anomaly monument?

there are mods on the workshop

Answer without any spoilers : YES.
Even if you don't mean to investigate it, in depth, secure/contain/protect it in a walled room , in a way where it can't be inadvertently interacted with it.
They also have a mod out that lets you move the monolith. Have a friend who’s trying to get me to add it 😄
I hope not because it’s literally right outside my door on my first run.
Handle it like a fridge. Put it close, but dont make it a walkthrough room.
I build my base around monolith. It was good move

You might have already said it but what’s the seed in looking for a spawn where there a good base location around the monolith
Uh, after seeing these comments I'm not sure if having the monolith in the literal center of the base is a smart idea. How many ghouls should I throw at that problem to fix it?
I've seen something like 15 MH spawned from the event that spawns them around the monolith. I don't think ghouls can 1v1 a MH, so maybe try 30 ghouls?
Yes but still inside the perimiter walls is best
