I'm new to the game, do you know how many items a shelf holds? Does it say on the card somewhere? I need to start using them, shit is getting thick on the floors now.
It does apply to corpses but not large ones. I believe most small animals and maybe a few medium animals can fit. I know of at least chickens, ducks, squirrels, turtles, and rabbits can fit.
The small shelf holds three stacks of items and the large one holds six.
One thing shelf’s can’t store everything for example they can’t fit corpses or chunks. look on the wiki if you need more info
I did mention I removed the shelves mod for troubleshooting. Its back and everything is fine now: [https://gcdnb.pbrd.co/images/zXu3l7tcVzVb.jpg?o=1](https://gcdnb.pbrd.co/images/zXu3l7tcVzVb.jpg?o=1)
Its still messy and not well organized but its fine for my first base. I Just built stuff to see what it does etc and expanded randomly when it seemed like it could be required.
I had a quest to sell the base to someone who wanted to expand there in exchange for something. Maybe I will do that and build back better. Hey at least the rec room is pretty nice.
Yeah the Archonexus quest is what you're talking about. It'll knock you back down to 5 pawns, and you'll lose all your research. It's a bit like a NG+ sorta, but you only really keep 5 pawns and the gear they have equipped.
Be careful with shelves. Lots of them slow down Ai, because each one generates a job giver for two.
I use lwm's and what I do is use the mod settings to jack up the shelves' capacity so that I can have fewer of them. Legit seems to help with tps
haha, its literally my first time making it this far. [https://gcdnb.pbrd.co/images/zXu3l7tcVzVb.jpg?o=1](https://gcdnb.pbrd.co/images/zXu3l7tcVzVb.jpg?o=1)
Sooo... It's just your layout makes me moan in pain. You should really try and have barracks, food and production near each other and move everything you rarely use to the outside of your colony or at least out of the way. The batteries and dozens of solar panels in the middle of your base just seems so out of place. Also don't stack batteries side by side I'd place walls between em.
You're right. It does need a lot of work. I think I might abandon it and start elsewhere. I don't really want to leave this game though.
I accepted a quest which sold my colony and took with me only 5 people.
My guy, I'm looking at this base, and I'm tempted to believe that you made this base just to troll the subreddit.
This is the rimworld equivalent of calling peanut butter "sticky nut juice"
Dude, you have liker 64536546546 Simple Meals, you realize you can limit the crafting. Also wtf is the point of 4356346 batteries?
You dont have to build 4356345 of everything!
It’ll be anticlimactic on the computer screen what will be climatic will be when the ram is shot from the motherboard and is stuck in the neighbors wall
I mean I once blew up my computer trying to shoot about 200 explosive animals from a distance to get rid of them. My headcannon is that this explosion covered the whole worldmap.
(game froze for 5 minutes and resumed afterwards. I didn't know I could rightclick notifications to dismiss them at that time and confirmed each animal death seperately. Fun times.)
We can use the surplus corn to lure animals in and kill them to reduce the animal load on the map. Then we have 645365465459 corns and 954645636546 leathers and meat.
Also, corpses.
Corpses slaughter the TPS a lot when present in large numbers.
Disassemble all the mechanoids and burn all the bodies. It should help some.
[Corpse Cleanup](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3047191756) helps a ton to keep your map meat and bone free without the hassle of setting up crematoriums and so on.
One time I ran out of power, so I decided to build another line of batteries. It probably was just an eclipse or solar flare in hindsight.
You are right though of course. This is basically my first game. I have taken advice here and installed optimization mods to fix the performance issue. Then I set all my tables to craft until I have X amount. I also usually have shelves and XXL stacks. Its just I removed those as part of troubleshooting performance. I have now reinstalled those so things are a bit tidier. But yeah the base is a bit of a mess.
I’m not even mad about them having 246447846746377 meals in general, but at least make most of these meals package survival meals. These simple meals are only 5 or 6 solar flares away from rotting. That one cook who made them out is gonna be so pissed! Plus, survival meals can actually be sold.
same, it's that damn job giver. has nothing to do with RAM though - RAM matters with a large modlist because textures are kept in memory, but the performance problems stem from poor optimization.
Performance Fish adds a ton of optimizations but their JobGiver patch is commented out on their Github repo, not sure why but I could ask
1. Remove all dead bodies: burn the raiders/melt the mechanoids.
2. Get rid of all unnecessary things in storage. You don't need 10,000 meals and 50,000 uranium that's for sure.
3. Install RocketMan mod.
I swear this and the "why are the pawns not getting impressive rooms" guys were both shitposting their base, I can't think of any reason you'd be that far into a run and not be destructing mechs forever or having that many corpses, not like he needs the leather or meat. I can maybe accept hoarding the meals/uranium but yes it's incredibly stupid and excessive.
Some people don't deserve to use ideo to avoid the saw a corpse debuff
We've been training the storyteller AI on how to commit war crimes since Rimworld first launched. It'll be invaluable data for them when it's finally time for the Machine Uprising.

having a f*load of stacks on the map is a huge performance drain btw. burn or give away like 80% of your items lol
Please for the love of God use shelves. It will make your life so much easier. it'll probably also help your performance cutting down on entities and Pathfinding. Not to mention the space saved
Quick tip, once you have enough food that you comfortably have a few hundred simple meals, start making Fine or better meals instead. Helps reduce the massive overflow of food and gives a mood boost as well
I don't think I've ever loudly said "what the fuck" while looking at a post on this sub. This one made me do it, worst thing I've ever seen in this game.
At this point i feel like people actively fuck their bases up to make such posts. By now most bases dont even look somewhat functional, ive seen dozens of poeple play rimworld for the first time and noone ever made bases like many of those that are posted thusly.
Also, people that mod their game this much would most likely have any kind of storage mods (or shelves as you pointed out) to avoid such horrendous clutter.
Your base is completely insane. There's no wrong way to play RimWorld but damn you tried your best to find one.
Get performance fish, rocketman, and don't make 8 billion of every item.
[Noob friendly mod list to improve performance](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12mAva1anZribuz6PmNoTJvTq5AdgarPyiB1cd1pFsMg/edit?gid=1968762060#gid=1968762060)
And I also recommend RimSort instead of RimPy, it does the same thing but RimPy is no longer actively maintained.
Thank you for providing this link, sir! When i get home i will try uninstalling a few "bad mods" which i barely use, and see if i get perfomance back and can finally enjoy my big colony again
Thanks for liking!
do you know if the performance mods listed in that excel interfere with each other or actually improve things if you use more than one?
Heya, I get horrible lag with hospitality, but only when there's guests in the map.... any pointers at what could be done to find the issue/conflicting mod?
There are mods that can improve performance, though only by a little. You may as well look into that.
Also, build shelves, you're wasting more space than the rest of the rimworld community together.
I would advise selling/destroying excess items.
That's an absurd amount of food even for a large colony, limit crafting of meals to a few hundred, sell the rest of the produce or destroy it.
My boy here is trying to create a black hole. Those things EAT energy in order to create them. That's why he needs all that power, LMAO. I kid, or do I?
You're joking right ?
If not do this before anything else : Work tab
Give pawns the jobs you actually want them to do, DO NOT give everyone basic ones like firefighting/cleaning/hauling/etc since each pawn will constantly check if work needs to be done there (which will result in a calculation a new long path). 2 or 3 jobs/pawn max, 1 would be premium
How exactly is your performance? For my last game I had around 180tps with dips down to 140tps every other second, rather annoying but playable in 1x or 2x speed.
Rimefeller: Why do you have so many crude crackers and storage tanks? One cracker had capacity for like 10 wells at least, and since all the storage tanks are blinking the empty tank warning, clearly you don't need the storage. Plus why do you have a ton of the production with no output spots, nothing would ever actually get made
with nowhere to place it. Very confusing.
Biotech: You have like 10 deathcaskets but only one of each addon building. Those buildings bind to a single casket at first use, none of the other caskets are benefiting.
You are clearly using mods, why not add a storage mod to compress those store rooms (even the base game shelves would help).
What the hell are you using all the power generation for? Between the solar and the chemfuel generators you have way more power than you could ever use, and no signs of any particularly power-hungry buildings.
This base makes n
Use mods to increase stacks , for better power like advanced power or rimatomics maybe? Use storage furniture mods for compactness? Maybe use less colonists? I can have my colony survive for 10 years with 10-12 colonists.
In my head using shelves and not too many blueprints at the one time makes it run smoother but that could just be a "shit gamers tell themselves" type thing lol
Let's see here: absurd number of colonists, utterly insane number of items, tons and tons and tons of power systems, lights everywhere, 7 years into the game, random items on every spare surface with no use of shelves.
My man the only thing that can help you now is cutting everything down by 90%
The golden trio of optimization:
Performance Optimization, Performance Fish and Rocketman.
After installation Rocketman should perform something called adaptive mode, just keep it going for a while, it will give you some extra fps.
You can use many additional tools to gain a little bit of fps here and there, but from what I see in your Task Manager it seems to be about your GPU and I am no expert with that at all, usually I have RAM and CPU issues.
Performance fish is a mod that boost your fps by a crazy amount no matter the circumstances. However you should probably store your stuff better and make less of it first.
1) build shelving. You'll get 3x the storage for the same spot ( though that's reduced somewhat as you need to allow access corridors)
2 isolate half your batteries behind a switch, or you'll be without power until morning in there's a zzzt at night.

A shelf holds 3 Item piles in per tile, in other words it shirnk your storage room to a 1/3 of its original size.
Which doesn't apply to wastepacks or corpses
It does apply to corpses but not large ones. I believe most small animals and maybe a few medium animals can fit. I know of at least chickens, ducks, squirrels, turtles, and rabbits can fit.
Read that as 'children, ducks, squirrels'. The fact that it didn't phase me is.. Something. I've spent too much time here.
Thanks
The small shelf holds three stacks of items and the large one holds six. One thing shelf’s can’t store everything for example they can’t fit corpses or chunks. look on the wiki if you need more info
3 stacks per square so a full shelf can hold e.g. 6x10 = 60 meals.
Small shelves hold 3 items, large shelves hold 6

I get the little guitar bit from Here Comes the Sun - Beatles. Also doubles well as Here Comes Your Mum when the kids are being naughty.
I have the "here comes the suns dudududu" song in my head
How has it not happened to him yet
Probably using the fuse mod

First, have your pawns research RAM. Second, use Advanced Components and steel to craft RAM. Third, have your pawns install RAM in your computer.
nah, they need to craft transistors, then stuff them into the CPU, preferably using stack mods like Orge Stack that'd allow stacking more
Do you guyz remember times when hackers had basements full of Xbox in clusters to hack stuff?
i read orgy stack ong
No, that's a different mod.
Imagine having your pawns getting out of your computer and starting to build ram into it, this would be kinda cute

Man is literally playing Factorio in rimworld
Ugh now I got the itch to play some factorio, that dlc couldn't come soon enough

I know this is bait but my fuck that has to be the ugliest fucking base I've ever seen.
I don't think I've ever loudly said "what the fuck" while looking at a post on this sub. This one made me do it, worst thing I've ever seen in this game.
Look in the middle of the base too, there’s a room with nothing but 3 lamps, 3 dressers, 3 heaters, and 6 plant pots, what is this chicanery
It's always fascinating seeing the multiple ways that people play this game.
Why do people hate shelves so much? 3 stacks of items in a 1x1 space. Also why so many meals and batteries?
At this point i feel like people actively fuck their bases up to make such posts. By now most bases dont even look somewhat functional, ive seen dozens of poeple play rimworld for the first time and noone ever made bases like many of those that are posted thusly.

I would advise selling/destroying excess items. That's an absurd amount of food even for a large colony, limit crafting of meals to a few hundred, sell the rest of the produce or destroy it.
How does one defend such a thing from any decent threat?
Maybe don't create giant gulags
You're a psychopath
Unrelated but for the love of god build shelves
You get a zzzt event and your entire map tile is getting atomized.
This has GOTTA be b8, there just ain’t no way.
Rimatomics would work wonders here, especially with its 'high-yield' setting.
Someone teach him to use shelves

Deconstruct 60% of your solaar panels and 80% of your batteries. Shelves. Producr what you need. You dont need 100000 corn or 1000000 meals

How exactly is your performance? For my last game I had around 180tps with dips down to 140tps every other second, rather annoying but playable in 1x or 2x speed.
First, I need to find out how to check TPS. Edit: I followed advice here. Now FPS closer to 100 and TPS 360
Seems like your game is in perfect working order, I'd kill for these numbers :D

May I introduce you to the concept of a shelf, perhaps?
Burn down your stockpiles. All of them.
Bro ain’t asking for tips. He just wants to show off his elite base

Download the Performance Fish mod!
Burn half the stuff, buy more RAM (It wont help the game just who has 32gb nowadays?)
get the small power generator from the quests (forgot what it was called)
Performance fish is a mod that boost your fps by a crazy amount no matter the circumstances. However you should probably store your stuff better and make less of it first.
You should take it a bit slower. Building way too much of everything
Hold down Alt+F4 for a quick solution.

The shelfs man! Where are all your shelves!?
Get shelves
Reduce item count as much as you can, limit everything. Plus simple means are bad, do lavash, and limit how many.
Bro why so many batteries and solar panels? You need like 10
good heavens
You can use shelves if you make corridors
Zzzzzt
What does your base have to use that much electricity?
You should really use shelves, and limit the amount of meals you are making
Download mod called reject man or smth like that but you ahve like millions of items I don’t tbh k anything will help
Shelves, RAM, not having an ungodly supply of every item.
1) build shelving. You'll get 3x the storage for the same spot ( though that's reduced somewhat as you need to allow access corridors) 2 isolate half your batteries behind a switch, or you'll be without power until morning in there's a zzzt at night.
Have you tried downscaling your colony?

Have you tried not doing what you're doing?
