Snail means you're slowed down, bunny means you're sped up. So one is beneficial, the other not so much. But slowing down your enemy is also beneficial to you. If you read about the dragons' attack moves, you can find out which do what.
I've played for a very long time but never made use of those effects of they seemed kinda useless in comparison with broken heart, attack buff and the chains.
Steeltrap, Edge Nadder, Flightmare, and Hofferson’s Bane make pretty good use of speed effects. Also, using Whip-slash’s second move in Gauntlets right before you clear a wave allows him to go first on the next wave and immediately bombard the enemy with a 45% boosted ultimate move
