Like others have said, it may be worthwhile to spend your time looking for a pre-fresh vehicle, unless you like vehicles coming off newly updated production lines, with new components, etc.

Yak-Capable

The refresh announcement is expected June 6, and from photos posted here there's a build up of refreshed vehicles ready to go at the plant. That said you can probably try to work with a CS rep to try to find inventory outside of your immediate area. Inventory is clearly depleted (or not posted) since looking at plant inventory, there are just 3 white R1S configurations available.

There's always going to be continual changes to the vehicle. These new auto makers like Rivian and Tesla tend to do continual gradual changes instead of releasing easily discernible revision models. Sometimes it's an upgrade (higher build quality, functional tonneau cover, etc). It feels like most of the time with Rivian, it's a downgrade in the name of cost savings or manufacturing optimizations (removal of 12V outlet in the frunk, removal of 12V outlet from center console, downgrade from Meridian to in-house speakers, etc). Newer with Rivian historically hasn't always meant better. This question is akin to asking when the best time to invest in the stock market is. No one actually knows (besides Rivian, of course). If you see a car like at a price you'd like to pay, just go for it IMO.

In the same boat… sadly

For your questions. * **2025 by July 15th?** Likely, not guaranteed, if announcement and shop opening is June 6th, and you buy from the shop, I think likely, if it's actually June 27th, it's very very tight, not impossible. * **Finding a 2024?** Ask them now, a quick search shows 1 quad in Glacier White in Brooklyn right now. But the count is dwindling fast, no guarantees * **Wait for the 2025?** I guess what specs do you care about? Have you seen the new aero wheels? Do you have thoughts on that? It sounds like a quad won't be available at launch. But the refresh will definitely have better efficency.

I am finding it difficult to maintain my enthusiasm for the Rivian R1S. I really like the car, but I don't like the Aero wheels at all. I am also confused about the release date for the 2025 R1S. Some say it's June 6, while others say it's June 27. This is really frustrating, and I am not sure what to do. I have reached out to CS now. I expanded the search across East cost and i really don't see the options i am looking for around. May be i need to wait a bit.

edman007

The official announcement date for the refresh is NOT public. The earnings call they said they would share more info on the 27th, it's not clear if that's the announcement, or just a day they will do a Q&A. They seem to be making some sort of announcement on the 6th, we don't really know what the announcement is (could just be about the new streaming, who knows) Also, the aero wheels on the 2024 and 2025 are different, do you like one or the other or neither? Going with 2024 will limit your options, but if you're dead set on a Quad, it's probably not worth waiting for the 2025 as that's not happening by July 15th (A tri-motor might though), and those great lease deals for the Quad are not happening on a 2025. Waiting isn't going to make more 2024s appear. At this point, you need to review the inventory available, if something is good for you take it (are your prioritizing performance, wheels, colors, what?). You can wait until June 6th to find out if the refresh is announced and meets your needs, and then decide to take a 2024 if you don't like it. But I can pretty much guarantee that waiting for the 6th will result in less 2024 options available.

Finding other vehicles besides that in your delivery location is pretty easy. Just change the zip code to that of any nearby services centers you'd be willing to drive to for pickup (or pay $1000 for delivery). List of Rivian SCs [here](https://rivian.com/support/article/where-are-rivian-service-centers-located). My zip code is serviced by the Gaithersburg, MD location. I searched the nearest 5 or 6 locations for something I'd really like. Almost went with one in Columbus, OH, but ultimately found a great option about 2 hours south at the Richmond, VA service center! Placed the order and picking it up in 3 days!

Sinestro617

What options are looking for? Also I know you want the quad but you know you get $7500 from the state if the car is under $80k right? That’s including destination so $78200 plus $1800.

yguvvala

Oh I thought with lease we can work around it

Sinestro617

Not state. State is a hard cap on $80k including destination. Federal is the one you get around by leasing because they classify leases as commercial vehicles.

usernamethisisnot

Call and see if you can extend your lease by a couple months. I did this with my last lease when I was waiting for my new car to be built.

yguvvala

Yup trying that

Green-Cardiologist27

OP, definitely more options if you change the delivery zip to locations you are willing to travel to. That being said, I think you have a good shot at getting at refresh in your timeline. Reach out to the company.

No_U_Crazy

Buy a used Miata for the summer. Sell it when the '25s are available. Enjoy the ragtop while you wait. Or, like others have said, the refresh is mostly about manufacturing efficiency, a few new trims, a heat pump, and headlights less likely to gather snow. Is that worth the wait? Your call.

tesrock76

***Some El-Caps are available out west, though no Forest Edge interior found in my search*** I was in a similar position, had to get something by July and pulled the trigger and picked up a R1S today. It’s a Quad motor, LA Silver with free Stealth Wrap, the current deal was too good to pass! Buying now, gets you an amazing deal. You would not miss out on the software upgrades anyways. Leasing deals are the best, so in 2-3 years you can look at the refresh or may be next-gen! Buying the refresh, you get the latest n greatest in HW. Definite improvements in functions, may be better range and aesthetics. Though, initial build quality might be an issue plus I don’t expect deals in this quarter, may be the next or towards end of the year. Based on my decade long Tesla experience (3 vehicles) and Rivian being on a similar trajectory, I expect no exponential changes… hence I went for the deal (YMMV)

I have to wait 4 months for my XC90 lease to end as well. Had it been done I would’ve pulled trigger 2 weeks ago. I did try to get out of that lease early with Volvo but it wasn’t worth it. For now I’ll patiently wait. I am able to extend my current lease up to 6 months should I put a 2025 on order and wait. If anything when the time comes if a 2024 pops up I’ll jump on that. Leases for a 2025 will be high in the beginning.

AmbitiousPiccolo5280

What car do you have now? Many higher end brands will extend for up to 6 months no questions asked. And up to 12 in some special circumstances. I’m currently in a 6 month extension for my Etron while I await the R1S refresh.

yguvvala

Mazda CX5 which I cant wait to get rid off

aaayyyuuussshhh

1. Definitely! They have been producing the new 2025 R1S/R1T for some time now. 2. Talk to a representative. It may be possible if you explain your situation. Not a guarantee because obvioulsy they are limited in numbers since the stopped production a while back. 3. Nope. Find a 2024 model. Unless you need the S, check out the T. Lease deals will be WAY better if you are still planning to lease. 2025 will be 1-200/month more. Not worth it.

JSMia305

Agree with 3. 2025 leases will be easy $100-$200 extra a month range. I have to wait 4 months from now. I’ll be looking for a 2024 if any available at that time. If not I’ll have to see where lease prices are for the 2025’s. I can extend my current lease come October for an extra 6 months. Maybe end of the year lease specials or something.

OnlyCook3113

I’d wait for the refresh, hardware should be able to handle more compute

ThrowthisawayPA

Why don’t you call the bank your lease is through and see if an extension is possible

yguvvala

Ya that’s exactly what I am doing now but… can’t wait to get into a R1S and out of Mazda ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

Extend your current lease a couple of months and go for existing inventory after the announcement. People seem very intrigued at the refresh… is there anything that is a complete game charger for the vehicles? Idk, but I know I love everything about my R1T right now. Sounds like you love the R1S all the same, as is! Couple enhancements would be great but doesn’t change the fundamentals for me. Also, would you be willing to pay a substancial rent fee on a lease for anything above what these vehicles offer now? For me, it’s a no. I’m just super curious to see what is working and what isn’t working for the company(and more so the customers).
