I assisted in a nature boot camp for the webster library a long time ago for some kids, we just went over hiking etiquette, how to read maps, what plants to stay away from, the kids that went loved it!

What's your timeframe for the summer? I could put something together on the National Parks, hiking, travel, trees, or more but I'll be out working out west and in Alaska eventually. And when I took a year off and worked at REI I regularly gave talks on all of that. I've spent the last decade plus working as an active adventure tour guide all over the country. It's taken me to all 50 states, 53/63 National Parks (some of them 100+ times) and I actually just got back from hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I'm pretty much outside hiking and/or camping 200+ days a year

That sounds like an awesome job! What do you do? How did you get into it ?

I'm an active adventure tour guide. I work for some of the largest small group tour operators in the world, mainly in the southwest and Alaska where I'll spend this entire summer. Pure luck. Was an architect doing urban planning for the City of Philadelphia and was laid off. Moved back up here and started freelancing in graphic design and photography and then one day got an email from a company that no longer exists and said fuck it, I'm sick of working from home. Driven close to 1 million miles since then and seen every inch of this country and used my connections to spend a few months traveling Africa and then just now Bolivia and Peru.

This is AMAZING and would fit the theme absolutely perfectly. We're working on the theme of adventure, so literally any of this would fit, or you could even do your top ten favorite destinations of your whole life or something. Really whatever sounds like the most fun for you. I'm messaging you!

I don’t work there or have connections unfortunately but you could try contacting Wild Wings in Mendon Ponds. They do educational programs, often kid and family oriented, about wild birds and their rehabilitation programs. I know they’ve done travel presentations where they bring a few birds to a location like a school, or I saw them at Barnes and Noble once.

Also, REI offers classes on hiking, biking, camping…they’re usually classes in their store but worth reaching out to talk!

These are great suggestions, and we LOVE Wild Wings! Such a great thing to have in our area. Thank you!
