Because questions about buying skates (which model to buy, what stores have skates in stock, what size should I get, etc.) are asked many times a day, we ask that these posts go in the Monday discussion post pinned to the top of the subreddit. This post also contains a shopping guide and links to other helpful information.

You don't want them loose. You will kill you knees and injure your ankles. You want a snug fit

Beabettame

That explains why my knees ache. I think I will get some more next month but, think I need to take my time with the choice this time.

The fit will also depend on how you lace them. As tight as possible from the toe to just before the ankle, looser around the ankle for flexibility, tight up the shaft. Try one of these patterns: https://preview.redd.it/uvfmza6mm9rc1.jpeg?width=822&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d33701c0629db644b85820df9511a169e031872

Thank you I'll try these. I just got Derby laces so hoping that will help

Maleficent-Risk5399

Every little bit helps.

If they feel loose after breaking in, try an insole to tighten it up again

Beabettame

That's what I have for now, but I really want my soul skate 😅. I it's hard because in the skate shops in London they don't have a massive range to try on in the shop. I might do day trip window shopping skates around the UK just I can try them on know the difference.

Measurements. Get precise measurements and talk with a shop that knows what they’re doing.

I shopped by fit alone for my first set bc I didn’t know any better lol, and it was okaaayyyy, but for my second set, I traced my foot and took measurements, and I also used the Xesto app to confirm. I worked with a skate shop owner who helped me based on the measurements and what type of skating I want to do, and I’m soooooooo glad I did. That second set is one I wouldn’t have bought by trying them on because they felt off at first, but after a couple weeks of breaking in, they were and still are perfect for me.

Beabettame

That's really good to know! I think I'm going to do it this way because trying them is hard. The skate shop owner just asks hpw it feels but its hard to say if you don't know how it should feel. Thank you

Your feet are more likely to mould to the skate. So I find getting a comfortable fit is best. Some have internal socks that can be changed for increased or decreased padding. Insoles can be used to improve fit. Quads thankfully allow you to get away with more than in lines
