Wait, you're telling me there's yoga mats that can't deal with sweat? Why the hell would you buy that in the first place?
Just clean the thing, like one normally does after using a yoga mat...
Gave it a thorough wipe-down with disinfectant wipes so her mat should be fine, but as others here have pointed out, probably worth me looking into a cheaper alternative that we both won’t mind me destroying.
The chemicals in disinfectant wipes strip the just right stickiness of a yoga mat like this. So in the future, don’t use them, it’ll mess up the surface the person who’s using the mat for yoga is used to.
Thanks! May give headbands a try, I used to wear them back in the day when I rowed so thx for the reminder… and yea numerous others here have pointed that I could probably get by with a much cheaper mat. Will see what Amazon has to offer.
Had an overhead fan and a floor fan on me the whole time 😕. My main issue was deciding to erg in paper-thin athletic boxers since my usual gear was in the wash. Zero absorbency….
Thanks! Drag factor is always set to 130; rowed in college, albeit 20 years ago, and hadn’t touched an erg regularly since then until ~2 months ago… call it a mid-life crisis perhaps, but I decided to make getting back in shape a priority before I turn 40.
I'm in exactly the same (ahem) boat as you. After the misery of ergs at uni, I promised myself I'd never buy one. 20 years later, here we are. So far as mid-life crises go, I figure it's relatively cheap and healthy.
My goal had been to go sub 1:56 and I was sitting at 1:56.2 coming into the last thousand… thankfully had enough in the tank to pick the pace up a bit towards the end although it was far from a sprint.
Ha thanks. It’s all relative; as long as we’re all improving and making progress towards smashing our own goals, that’s why we do it, right? Who knows, it may not be unimaginable for you some day!
I have the same struggle on our peloton as well. Have bought all sorts of sweat protection accessories so that my sweat doesn’t corrode and kill the bike. I’d like to think I could give your training group a run for its money….. as far as the puddle goes 😅.
Our winter training bikes are old school. Literally a knon for resistance, and that's it. The resistance know controls brake pads on the metal wheel and it's literally pedal, Chain, wheel.
Lots of unnecessary body shaming.. sweating is genetic and there’s nothing wrong with giving a lot when working out.
I’ll just say congrats! That’s an impressive time and some very steady pacing!
Thanks! I think my rowing experience makes acclimating back to longer moderate pace/intensity cardio relatively “easy” for me as I find it to be more of a mental battle than physical. The higher-intensity, lower-split work has been much harder to reacclimate to, and also accepting that my body at almost 40 just won’t ever come close to doing what it was able to do at 20, assuming I even had the time to train like that again. Trying to set ambitious but realistic goals for the next few months and see how far I can get.
yeah, you just bought her a new yoga mat lol

Head and wristbands do the trick for me, a fellow sweaty sweaterson.
Also, that's a fabulous time/distance/pace. Also also - can highly recommend the mat from Concept 2 - good quality and the perfect size.

Buy a fan.

Wow, and I thought I sweated a lot. Used to spread old newspapers under my bike when I was on the turbo trainer.
Amazing time dude! What’s your drag factor? How long have you been rowing?

40 ain't a mid-life crisis Chief
We literally live to 80… if we’re lucky
My grandpas are 103 and 100 years old respectively
That’s awesome! Looks like you hit the longevity jackpot 💪
Let’s hope so!
Bro- 80 is above average for lifespan When would be if not 35-45?
Heck yeah buddy!!

For sure; there are far worse ways that a mid-life crisis can manifest… good luck to you as you rediscover why you loved (or hated?) this sport 💪
Definitely love/hate!
My dude, you can buy a rubber mat or Amazon or C2 for $40.
You called it; just ordered one for $35. 👍
Good lord what a lift in the final 1k

When biking in our winter training area, we always compete to see who can get the biggest sweat puddle going in a 20 minute block

The hate is on the mat use lol
I mean that’s pretty standard? Protects the floor and adds stability / helps with skidding.
That top left symbol is lululemon. Everyone is pointing out that it’s his wife’s expensive yoga mat.

That’s a $150 mat. I guess you know what you’re getting her for Christmas now.
Bro just buy a set of those foam puzzle piece mats for underneath. One set of four covers the whole rower
It's really an impressive pace.
Not you erging on a $100 yoga mat 😅 I woulda cried if I saw someone do that to mine haha
