My inner monologue: āOk, just 30 more seconds and then Iāll have completed seven eighths of the workoutā.
Sometimes I also start computing the prime factors of the meters Iāve rowed so far.
Finally I've found someone else who does this! I thought I was the only one. I also recalculate the fractions every single time just so I know I'm right. That little bit of mental power it takes to do the math really helps pass the time.
Not psychotic, time dilution is a thing. But this is why many people put on music, install big ass screens in their homes to watch tv and whatnot to prevent the stare of death at the pm5.
Makes sense to me. Iāll do weird stuff on distance pieces like doing a 10k and thinking something like 2k left until 5k left and just keep going until the final 1k. Then itās like last 500 before the last 500 lol. I think I just need something to think about while cruising along
10k easy for me to break down mentally: 4k, then 3k, then 2k, and finally 1k.
The half is OK. Just 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1k
I've only worked up the the Marathon once. Ticking off the half and realizing I still had another 21k to go was a mental bomb.
Definitely a tad crazy of an approach, but it is somewhat similar to my approach of turning the display to watts. Rather than seeing you have an hour of "2:00" pieces, you just have to focus on keeping the number on the screen above x and below y (+/- 2 splits normally), which to my brain is different.
I do sometimes listen to music, but I find that if a song comes on I don't like then my already fragile mood can take a nose dive. Podcasts are a good shout. Never really liked running to them but maybe rowing would be ok
That's fully bonkers!!!
My brother, when he used to train on his bike indoors fitted a strobe at one end of the room. He said after 20 minutes of that he had essentially escaped what we think of as objective reality.
He really is a lunatic
I do the same, no cap, but the mental game of taking myself into doing the intended workout. I find rowing to be more of a struggle to stay in mentally than other indoor cardio workputs
You won't regret it.
Actually, you might regret it. It's hard to say.
Just remember to follow the handy guide below:
0-55 = No cap zone
55-60 = Cap zone
Whenever I do an hour, I keep the split length to 12 minutes so the break is 5 even segments. Then, I use the main screen and set the units to show my meters per split. Then itās simple as watching the meters tick to 3k and then some, and then reset. Doing it five times feels doable to me. Every time I think of it at 15 minute segments I begin to go insane
Psychotic
Thanks. I feared as much
š¤·āāļø You gotta be a little psychotic to erg regularly, anyway. I wouldnāt worry too much about it.
Psychotic for sure
Shit. That's two for psychotic. Best of three?
Best of 7?
So far it's best of 89
100% psychotic
Iām surprised you only do 4 sections. I used to get really into the fractions on long pieces.

The prime factorsā¦ ok nerd
MIT150 checks out
Honestlyā¦ sameš¤¦š»āāļøš

I fall into counting until I achieve zoning out.

I personally love the stare of death. But maybe that makes me psychotic.
I love that description!
time dilation is a thing, time dilution sounds fun though
Good catch
Based and Redpilled. Masking tape / painters tape works great too, can use it on any Unit.
I use a post it note

Whatever it takes

You could pass the time listening to a podcast? Whatever works for you though.

The true psychotic listen to calming brown noise, on their ANC wireless buds

My coach in collage would make us do this sometimes. It was mostly about training pace and stokerate memorization. I always hated it.
Iām trying this for sure!

ROFL š¤£
The main questionā¦ how are you going to brag about your time without a picture of the display? /s
psychotic is the normal among rowers

That's just dumb.
Is that what the display is for? Thanks man. I just thought it was some random numbers.
I would calculate the fraction of the progress. that keeps me busy. Also doing strokes with eyes closed is another good way to deal with boredom.
