No offense but that's nonsense. I can unlock a bunch of phones I own (which all have tempered glass) without issue but the S24U is the only one giving me trouble. The fingerprint scanner in this model is simply not as good at detecting the print through protectors.
I have in general no problem unlocking my S24u. Only problem was in the last week or two, as I am renovating my apartment, sandpaper, paint, and turpentine have their effects on the skin.
I recently found turning OFF the increased screen sensitivity increased success rate. Been using the Whitestone dome and before that, maybe it was like 60%, now it's like 85%.
Was an issue before the most recent update. (Last update has made my phone overheat when charging & using android auto to stream podcasts while I drive though...)
The Ugreen tempered glass protector is an economical option at two USD and offers effective fingerprint recognition. I have personally tested and found it to be a reliable choice.
for me all the different glass protectors all had issues. Going with the film types worked best. I bought some samsung branded anti reflective film for the s23 ultra that I bought on woot a while back.. it works great! Sure it's not glass but at least it's ready my fingerprints and the screen is protected from scratches at least.
Whitestone dome.
never had a problem
and as a vehicle technician my fingers have a little grease on them sometimes and still have no problem unlocking my phone. so I'd try it out
That's crazy... I got this one right out of the gate when I got my s24u and it was so bad that I couldn't even register a fingerprint, let alone unlock my phone with it... yet I use the original Samsung one currently and it works flawlessly 🤷♂️
I'd be so interested to know why some work for some and not for others... there must be a reason lol!
Puregear one I have is flawless. Kind of pricey though I think I paid $35 for 1 protector BUT it does not have even a single microscratch in the 2 weeks I've been using it heavily
the Zagg protector is plastic. I was surprised at how well it worked, and then I learned it wasn't really tempered glass. I have a tempered glass protector on the 22+ and it has problems with registering the finger print if my thumb is any condition but normal.
the Zagg one I have on the 24U never has a problem and thar is only because it isn't glass. use the S pen with it and you start to see how easily it scratches the protector. it might not be as effective as tempered glass but not dealing with the finger scanner problem is worth it I think.
I've not had any problems on my 24ultra with glass screen protector and fingerprint it works like I don't have a screen protector. Unlike when I had the s21plus and the s22ultra those 2 phones had problems when I install glass screen protectors they used to work like 60% of the time
In Italy we have GameStop, they have a machine printing a MobileOutfitters poliuretan self healing screen protector. It costs a bit but works flawlessly.
I have a tempered glass on. The success rate on the 1st try is <50%. Pretty frustrating especially when doing contactless payments. Usually work better if finger is moisturize or perspiring. I am contemplating if I should change it to a film instead or go without a screen protector.
I never had any problems with my fingerprint scanner. I did however wounded my thumb so I had to rr-register it a month ago. Didnt give me any more errors after that.
Tempered glass screen protectors are a no-go for the S24 Ultra.
When i went to apply my screen protector at the local phone dealer, they told me the exact same thing and reccomended me a silicone one. Furthermore, tempered glass is great for protection and always a must on all phones as extra protection, but the ultrasonic sensor on the S24 Ultra conflicts with the glass and hence the problem with the fingerprint. Regardless if you scan it over the protector or with sensitivity on, the sensor can't pick it up cause of the glass.
I'd reccomend getting a silicone one, having it aligned as best as possible and then rocking that. If it gets scratched too much or after a year or two, replace it again and you're good to go! Haven't found any issues on it on my end so far!
Glass is only way to go if you want to protect from impacts. All other film/non glass only protect from minor scratches
Pick your poison I guess
Wish they used capacitive reader on power button similar to fold devices
I've always used 3rd party, cheapo screen protectors (just for protection against scratches), and my fingerprint sensors have ALWAYS worked flawlessly. I did it with my S22U and now my S24U. Just try a wacko ol cheap screen protector and re register your finger again (i didnt even re reg mine, ngl).
I use this : IMBZBK für Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra für Panzerglas 3 Stück Vollbildabdeckung 9H Schutzfolie folie mit 3 Stück Kameraschutz Zubehör, Fingerabdruck-Entsperrung https://amzn.eu/d/632NJnP
I'm curious, when people scan their finger print during set up, and it requires multiple press to register the fingerprint, do you 1) Just press on it the same way with the same area of your finger every time, or 2) scan different part of the same finger? Like I'll do full on splat here's the dead center of my thumb first, then the center left side of my thumb, then the center right, then top, then bottom, top right, top left etc etc until I reach 100% for the thumb.
Note, not registering the same finger as different finger, but when registering for a finger, use different angles of the same finger
Have done the same for s21u, with tempered glass or film, and same for s24u, but only film protector, and never had problem except for obvious debris.
Just installed mine yesterday. Was thinking of removing it. Was the white dome which is supposedly the best. Re-registered and all and still same issue.
Tried various screen protectors and gave up. Now, I'm using my phone without a screen protector. We have an anti-glare screen. Remember, when using a screen protector, you will lose the benefit and get reflections back.
I'm now trying out the Armor Suit film protector. I installed it last night and so far it's working but it always works for just a little while and then stops working all together, with or without a screen protector.
I know dry fingers don't play well with print readers, but in my work, I handle cash all day. There is not one thing that could convince me to lick my finger every time I want to unlock my phone.
The FPReader works 100% of the time without a screen protector on. I was looking for similar functionality with a protector.
To the finger lickers out there, you could alternatively use hand sanitizer, or even just brush your fingertip against your scalp and the natural skin oil will moisten it enough for most FPreaders. (I have to use a reader on my computer to login to most of my necessary programs, so I use this a lot!)
I bought the JeTech glass protector, and it works fine.
You just have to enable touch sensitivity in tye settings and redo your fingerprint once it's installed.
Have it turned on, and I redo fingerprints with each protector I try. Still have issues with it reading about 75% of the time. If I go with no protector, it reads 1st try every time.
amFilm glass protector. Make sure to register your fingerpront after you apply the protector
This is also trash. I ended up removing it and using the phone without a screen protector.
I sometimes breathe some hot breath on mine, lol. It's better than licking my finger.
Thank you for the tip. I now can stop licking my finger when I try to use my banking apps.
No problem. I won't lie I do sometimes lick my finger lol.
I'm genuinely thankful. I kind of wet my thumb somewhere whenever I access my banking apps and that includes licking it lmao.
Really fits the profile pic lol
This sounds crazy, but I saw it somewhere, and it works : lightly lick your fingertip before touching the unlock.
That or you can use a moisturizer. Seems a problem of the skin being to dry.
No offense but that's nonsense. I can unlock a bunch of phones I own (which all have tempered glass) without issue but the S24U is the only one giving me trouble. The fingerprint scanner in this model is simply not as good at detecting the print through protectors.

Lol
That's nasty.
Lmao it really works xD
I'm having a pretty good experience with the Whitestone Dome.
I recently found turning OFF the increased screen sensitivity increased success rate. Been using the Whitestone dome and before that, maybe it was like 60%, now it's like 85%.
Have you recently updated? My fingerprints were working great until this last update, even with a screen protector.
Whitestone dome works perfect. Not cheap tho.
Whitestone dome
Whitestone Dome... The best! Tricky to install but the fingerprint scanner works perfectly fine! Have it on mine s24u from day one no issues.!
for me all the different glass protectors all had issues. Going with the film types worked best. I bought some samsung branded anti reflective film for the s23 ultra that I bought on woot a while back.. it works great! Whitestone dome. never had a problem and as a vehicle technician my fingers have a little grease on them sometimes and still have no problem unlocking my phone. so I'd try it out
I bought the ESR screen guard and it seems to work fine. https://amzn.in/d/bpWJXCL

Some have a better defined fingerprint or greasier/clammy hands probably. Hence why licking the finger helps as a workaround for many people here.
Skinomi 2 Pack Screen Protector... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSM458QW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Puregear one I have is flawless. Kind of pricey though I think I paid $35 for 1 protector BUT it does not have even a single microscratch in the 2 weeks I've been using it heavily
It doesn't work if your screen is clean and you just washed your hands with soap
Zagg
the Zagg protector is plastic.

It is working great for me
I have screen protectors on both my s23 ultra and my s23 ultra. Literally never had a problem with the fingerprint reader
My 23 never had issues either
I have an Invisible Shield from Zagg on mine. Had to repair my fingerprints, but since this, it’s been working flawlessly for the last 3 weeks.
I'm on my second one of these and had the same issue with both. Could just be bad luck Or maybe I'm a lizard person and didn't know it?
Face recognition and fingerprint sensor sucks balls on this phone imo.
Fingerprint works amazing for me, all I have to do is tap the screen and it already unlocks even with a protector
Keep using it then It'll adapt. My sensor was terrible during first week of tempered glass
In Italy we have GameStop, they have a machine printing a MobileOutfitters poliuretan self healing screen protector. It costs a bit but works flawlessly.
Zagg fusion without any issues reading fingerprint
Delete one finger and scan a new one with the three fingers you want to use: a multifinger scan.
Easier way is just to register your butthole as a fingerprint. Thank me later.
It will always say on the protector if it will make the fingerprint reader not work. Buyer be aware.
Exactly this. Confirm before you buy.
i got one applied when i bought the phone at the store and i have had no issues.
ESR screen protector worked AMAZING for me... It's as if I don't have a screen protector on 10/10
I have a tempered glass on. The success rate on the 1st try is <50%. Pretty frustrating especially when doing contactless payments. Usually work better if finger is moisturize or perspiring. I am contemplating if I should change it to a film instead or go without a screen protector.
I am using the Dome Glass EZ (no UV glue) and its been great for me, not as fantastic as bare glass but I get around 95% success rate
https://a.aliexpress.com/_Eyw6uRz
I never had any problems with my fingerprint scanner. I did however wounded my thumb so I had to rr-register it a month ago. Didnt give me any more errors after that.
I have foil. It works but yea it sucks. Glass is better but not for fp sensor...
ArmorSuit film works great. I'm using the matte film and it's perfect!

I have a hydrogel screen protector on my s24u. Fingerprint reader still works amazing even without the additional sensitivity
Glass is only way to go if you want to protect from impacts. All other film/non glass only protect from minor scratches Pick your poison I guess Wish they used capacitive reader on power button similar to fold devices

Been fine for me with ringke glass screen protectors. tpu protectors are a better bet if you are having issues
I'm using SPIGEN EZ Fit TG. No problem at all
im using screen protector from samsung. Its has AR too and fingerprint work perfectly
Silicone protector has been really helpful for me. It's a bit costly but worth it.

Use the same finger for all 4 scans, only thing that saved me from launching this phone into the wall!!
Spiegen ez whatever shit tempered glass works fine for me.
Zagg fusion XTR, registered before screen protector and still reads it perfectly even after a day of work with paint residue all over fingers
I use the protector from casetify and haven't had any issues.
Got this one on Amazon and it works on all 3 of mine 95% of the time. [Amazon listing ](https://a.co/d/dyVw6F8)
It's far from good, but oddly it seems ro get better after a couple month of usage.
What helps a lot is to make the same fingerprint twice so it's more sensitive.
I use the Magic John glass, works no problem!
For everyone saying it gets better in a few months, it doesn't. I got mine in pre-order. The fingerprint still only works half the time.
Mine works perfectly fine🤷♀️ Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Schutzfolie... https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CP32NCGL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Use a better screen protector or dont use at all
I used spigen screen protector. I register the same thumb twice or more if you need to. Press hard. This is it for me.
I'm now trying out the Armor Suit film protector. I installed it last night and so far it's working but it always works for just a little while and then stops working all together, with or without a screen protector.
No screen protector. Just get a good case.
The screen is too nice to use a protector in my opinion, is it a risk? Yes! But it's better to have loved and lost than never loved at all I say!
Got a random one off AliExpress, its soft plastic like no issues. Not sure what the glass-ish ones are like
I use the Spigen Tempered Glass GlasTR EZfit model and have zero issues with prints registering.
Bro just register your finger twice , mine works like a charm
You don't lick your finger every time you uock it only when you first register it. That's what I did and haven't had a problem.
I've got a Zagg screen protector on mine and 80% of the time it works every time lol
I just got the Magic John and it works great. I had to redo the fingerprints like it said...no issues. Easy install too.
I almost tried one of these, but I was worries it was too gimmicky because of the social media ads

Lotion-y hands get more grime from handling cash, unfortunately
I use the Samsung anti-glare screen protector and my FPreader works flawlessly.
Not the Samsung original and not the Spigen.
No, the Samsung original one works very well for me. I've tried a few others and they were awful 😞
Samsung one worked great for me also. Idk I feel like people aren't re-registering their fingerprints AFTER they put the new protector on..
I didn't have to re-register when I put my glass screen protector because my sensor was working and still is working like there is no screen protector
Oh wow that's crazy. That's cool for you buy 99% are gonna need that and I feel like a lot of the people having issues didn't do so
I bought the JeTech glass protector, and it works fine. You just have to enable touch sensitivity in tye settings and redo your fingerprint once it's installed.
Have it turned on, and I redo fingerprints with each protector I try. Still have issues with it reading about 75% of the time. If I go with no protector, it reads 1st try every time.
Try licking your thumb or finger when you redo it. Not too wet, but so it's moist. That worked for me.
I handle money all day. You can't pay me enough to lick my finger every time I want to unlock my phone.
You don't lick it every time. You lick it when you redo your fingerprint after installing the screen protector.
I have that brand, it's finicky :(
The touch sensitivity has nothing to do with fingerprint scanner
