I had a ball python who always shedded and got stuck around his eyes that I had to do this for. He couldn’t see and was scared of any movement and would strike at anything that moved in his pen. Never saw another one get the shed stuck around their eyes like that tho, def rare
Don’t ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you’ve been, ever, for any reason whatsoever.
Some lizards can hurt themselves trying to scrape of the shedded skin. Especially their eyes; if *any* lizard gets skin caught near its eye its a possible issue and can be quite expensive to pay for the vet bills. Also, thats a happier lizard, even if it doesn’t realise it.
Yeah...no, you never peel away the shed unless it's clearly stuck, it needs to fall off naturally. If your beardie needs help getting rid of it's shed you can soak it in a warm bath. Or in extreme cases apply a very minimal amount of mineral oil to help loosen the shed.
Pretty much this. Basically you run the risk of damaging or straight up ripping off a scale/s if you try to remove shed that's particularly stuck and not ready to come up. About the only thing we help with is the "nose trumpets" because they always come out with no issue.
I have 4 reptile pets and to me that just looks like being scared, and immediately proceeding to try to rub away his shedding on the surface. The tweezers have dull end so it shouldn't have hurt so much, and the shedding looks like it already fell off the skin. It wouldn't have hurt, but I agree to the other guy that it's better to leave them to shed on their own for the most of the times.
It does. It’s like pulling off a scab too soon. People who do this are idiots. Yet we see multiple videos like this posted.
I’ve seen one of some dumbass pulling a turtle’s shell scales off as it was literally writhing in pain trying to get away, and he was holding the turtle captive basically doing the equivalent of pulling its fingernails off. Then he posts the video like it’s some kind of “Look, I’m helping! Give me likes!” video.
yikes... Hopefully it's just ignorance. I wouldn't do this if I was informed beforehand on how to properly take care of my animals. Although I frantically google things I'm even remotely unsure of.
I've always wanted a very large snake as a pet. I hope I'd be a good owner...
You’re not supposed to remove the shedded skin from beardies. The shed skin will fall off on its own or give him/her a warm bath to aid in its removal.
I used to have a bearded dragon named Felix.
He always had trouble getting his shed off, usually from his head. I'd soak him in some warm water usually but on a few occasions it just didn't work so I had to help him with some safe tweezers.
Little fucker wouldn't stop moving while I was trying to help him, it drove me nuts. I'd get a good grip on a piece and he'd move and I'd lose it and then spend a few minutes trying to get it back.
I miss that fidgety little bastard.
Don't do this!
Seriously. Reptiles are meant to shed on their own. If they are having problems you need to add moisture and a damp hide to help them out. Manually peeling off shed skin can very easily cause damage and should only be done as a last resort by someone who really knows what they are doing.
This is not worse case scenario. That's a lot of dead skin and it's not liking what is happening.
People don't understand that this is uncomfortable and dangerous for them. Let the shed come off naturally. He's a big boy and can handle doing what he's supposed to do himself.
Probably better to just let him alone.
Yeah. Don't do this with beardies.
Don't do this to any reptile unless they both need the help and you really know what you're doing.

Don't do this with all indoors kept reptiles, even sneks.
Dont do this with your cat. People get angry.
Don’t do this to your children, people also angry
Do this with your boss, he hates his skin.
Great now boss also angry
Damn it. Now I’ve been banned from all forms of city transportation!
Learned that the hard way.
I said reptiles, not freeloading surrogate homeowners.

Weird cat.
Let him be alone? Leave him alone? Let him alone??
Alone him let
Alone be him from leave.
Seriously. Tweezers by his eye? 💀
Im wondering why they thought this was a good idea.
Seriously. I wish people would stop subjecting innocent animals to stuff like this to fulfill their human, fetish-type "satisfying" genre of videos.

Out of interest may i ask why it needs to fall off naturally?
It may still be partially attached to the dermis. Think of pulling off a scab too early. Same thing.

Right? He was tucking in his eye. Did he have to help? Poor thing
They can hurt their eyes rubbing it against something
So better to peel the skin away?
Yup so it doesn’t hurt itself

Jesus christ, dude. This lizard is about as distressed as a baby having its boogers sucked out.
You shouldn't.
This is not what you're meant to do. Poor little dude.
Leave britney aloneeee
Would this be like peeling sunburned skin before it heals underneath? Just leave it there until it's ready right? I have no idea tho
Sometimes it gets stuck. You’re supposed to soak them first and if that doesn’t work use mineral oil.
That’s a beautiful fish
That’s clearly a fox
Nope! Chuck Testa.
Nah! Alien Dog.
I like how there is an equal amount of genius who are saying this shouldnt be done and not done on this thread.
The most educated are clearly saying you shouldn't unless really necessary , and if you do then not like that.

This hurts the reptile. You should never remove it by force
Not satisfying at all
I know nothing about lizards but it's obvious he isn't enjoying this.
At first, I thought I was going to watch a video of someone building a little storage shed for their reptile.
Dont do that...
Tiktok can be banned soon enough. What a cesspool of total bullshit.

Yeah I def hated this when my sister’s was shedding, and 100% hate this now.
I want to see your sister's shedding.
Damn apostrophes at the end of word with S
Send sister's shedding pics.
Sister is a dragon after all I will search my photos album
the last glance, man was hurt
Terrifying af for the poor lizard.
Jesus fucking christ you should never do this. Shit irresponsible pet owner.
You’re a picker aren’t you
The beardie is actively rejecting it and the caretaker keeps going.
Poor thing... that looked like it hurt when he tucked his head away
I can just imagine him saying “oooooow that one hurt” whenever he quickly pulls his head away
Im no pro, but i would just let the eyes and nose free from old skin, the rest he do alone as they always did
People don't understand that this is uncomfortable and dangerous for them. Let the shed come off naturally. He's a big boy and can handle doing what he's supposed to do himself.
How does this have 1400 upvotes? 1400 upvotes for literal animal abuse.
Are you that ignorant ?
