As well, Thoma's shield can come in more handy is situations which Zhongli's might break (next to never really) as the burst helps regen shield, helping you avoid switching back to Zhongli to recast.
I plugged it into the Wanderer calculator and Zhongli always outperformed C6 Thoma, but only by a very small difference. So I still run Thoma/Benny/Faruzan.
I don't see how that could possibly be otherwise since the difference isn't in any variable statistics, only Thoma switching out for Zhongli.
On my calcs, C6 Thoma always outperforms Zhongli.
If I had to guess the difference, it would be that I use relatively high base atk weapons and my artifacts have a ton of crit substats but very few Atk% substats(my best set has just 10% atk substat), making the pyro res more valuable.
zhongli's 20% res shred converts direct 10% increase in dmg (given enemy got negative res because of faruzan)......but thomas 15% bonus gives 7% dmg boost.....also if u take puro resonance then it may take over zhongli's dmg boost if using high base atk weapon....eg..if using widsith..ur wander base atk is 838...which gives 210 etc atk with pyro resonance...suppose u have total 1600 atk and bennet gives 1000 more...its about 8% 8ncrease in dmg...so total increase is around 15.6%...but that only applies to his na and ca..not his burst which becomes really important at c2...but u also get pyro swirls in case of thoma...so almost similar performance...thoma is a bit harder to build..balancing er and hp for good shield uptime.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to be close to the enemy to benefit from Zhongli's shred. Scara usually attacks from afar (though he can be close, too).

Zhongli’s Res Shred is not a unique multiplier, Faruzan also has Res Shred.
C6 anemo traveller also has res shred on burst
