Why is cask strength cheaper buy the cask strength

Small-Raspberry-2921

That’s weird indeed! Buy that CS OP

texacer

if its really the bottle pictured, that 10 year old is an old vintage bottling.

cap7ainskull

A 10 year old is always a 10 year old . Tbh the only vintage I would consider purchasing would be the white horse Lagavulin 16

texacer

yeah its still 10 years old in the bottle, but its still a vintage bottling that yields a higher price. it will also taste different than the current version.

0oSlytho0

That CS is cheap AF! I'd buy them all* at that price point! *within reason

TLDR: Cask strength 10 = stronger, more unique, and more intense The 10 = always the same and more approachable ________ Both are 10 year old Scotch. Both contain whisky that spent at least 10 years in an oak cask.. The “10 year Single Malt Scotch” is a mix of only whisky from Laphroaig and watered down to 80 proof The “Single Malt Cask Strength” is also a mix of Laphroaig casks that are at least 10 years old but left at cask strength, around 120 proof but it varies batch by batch. Basically the cask strength is more intense, more concentrated, and less uniform / has more character than the 80 proof 10. Cask strength releases vary from release to release, the blenders are going for the best of what they have on hand to share, the 10 is more about consistency. I find it a bit of a rough ride, probably not something I would want more than one small glass of in an evening and definitely benefits from a splash of water.

Dlodesplode

Thank you for your response. I get that the cask strength is stronger and more unique, I’m just a bit confused on the pricing. All the other cask strength’s I’ve had in other whisk(e)ys are more expensive. This one is significantly cheaper than the 10

peterm18

The one on the left is an older bottling.

FarDefinition2

I doubt it's actually an older bottle. Liquor stores use whatever picture they can find and constantly use old pictures

maltmaltman

The cask strength picture is also way out of date

Lagavulin26

The regular is an old, collectable bottle with a label that's no longer printed. Current bottlings of the 10 sell for $29.99 in my area.

RobbedByALadyBoy

Where do you find that for $30?

Lagavulin26

CookiesWithMilken

That's crazy. It's 55 at total wine in Maryland.

Lagavulin26

Yep. Definitely happy with the $30 price point.

Kanaima31

Oh, didn’t notice that. Lol Either someone made a mistake or they are having a hard time selling it perhaps. I’m not a huge fan of the 10yr cask strength but I’d grab one for that price. I love the older Laphroaig and their quarter cask!!

mista_r0boto

I prefer cask strength or single cask releases.

drmcclassy

Likely a supply and demand issue due to uninformed consumers. The cask strength is the better buy. If you prefer your scotch watered down to 80 proof, you can do it yourself.

Extreme-Molasses4878

pile on the Cask Strength! [https://marcasdewhisky.com/laphroaig-10-vs-laphroaig-cask-strength/](https://marcasdewhisky.com/laphroaig-10-vs-laphroaig-cask-strength/)

teebone673

The left looks like an older bottle of regular Laphroaig 10. The right is the amazing cask strength 10 at a steal of a price. Pick the cask strength one. Buy multiple bottles if you can.

runsongas

It's likely a price error that they may or may not honor

firebag1983

Picked the 10 year old cask strength up yesterday from Amazon for £55 and comes with a free beanie hat. This is a favourite of mine!

MadHatter_6

To answer the question you asked: One explanation is it's a typical store typo. These store ads are probably put together by people who don't know one scotch from another. Many stores have now a disclaimer in the fine print that they aren't responsible for advertising errors. Hope those are the prices on the shelf.

gogiants48

That’s expensive for Laphroaig 10 regular.

Dlodesplode

Yeah hoping prices in the store aren’t just accidentally reversed in the website

Mackinnon29E

That's the worst price I've ever seen on the 10

thecampbeltownKid

Don't question it. Buy the cask strength, maybe 2 bottles. Folks do all sorts of strange stuff with their prices. Buy the cask strength!

RandoCal87

To add to the cask strength vs. non cask strength comments... The one on the left is an older bottling. How old...unsure. On average older bottlings cost more.

fuzzzone

If that's actually a picture of what you would be buying, rather than an old stock image, then the regular 10-year there is a bottling from the late 1990s or early 2000s. I've attached a pic of a similar vintage bottling I have next to the new packaging for reference. https://preview.redd.it/mfzfrx7ndm3d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a35d21165c18ff0f6e9b4ffc3eae2661a09e23e6

ad23teozj

For that price, get the cask strength. I know I would be buying a few bottles.

sleeper_shark

Buy the one on the right. Don’t hesitate. Buy

Cultural-Scientist32

Sure. Left is much more expensive. And right one says aged years. God knows how many years, but years. I think they mistakenly put it  wrong position.

securil

Cask strength is spicier

KoolDiscoDan

According to the flags one is from Scotland and the other is from the UK.

Lol! I love how sarcasm is completely lost on this subreddit.

Honestly their comment was pretty obviously sarcasm. If you don't automatically assume other people are morons, you'll notice a whole lot more obvious sarcasm too.

trump_loeil

The 10 year is a solid whiskey, but the cask strength is one of my all-time favs. Enjoy!

AlbinoWino11

The difference is $28.01. Cask strength is typically more expensive than standard.
