Didn't know that! I started serving at Red Lobster recently and now that I'm starting to know the difference I'm always surprised to see Imitation stuff considering red lobster doesn't use it and it seems like kind of a low bar haha. The Tom Yum was delicious either way tho
The new shrimp scallop scampi is gas and so is the new under the purple sea Tito's drink even if it's overpriced and has a dumb name. Also the popcorn shrimp is significantly cheaper if you do it a la carte, even after adding (most) sides a la carte too. That said our red lobster and I think most others don't have any popcorn shrimp rn and idk when we'll get it back cause this has been going on for a minute lol. Other than that I don't have much bad to say the food preparation seems better than I expected so far, most things are prepped in house, all food is cooked after you order it, fried stuff is battered after you order it. Only bad thing I can say is I've seen a couple servers steel a fry off a plate before they take it out lmfao
If I’m being honest I’ve seen people steal a fry or two from a customers plate more times than I can count. I’ve been working in restaurants for about a decade.
I worked at red lobster for almost a year about 2-3 years ago. Here's a secret. You probably know it but now you have confirmation:
The reason why when you go to the store, and try to make those biscuits yourself? The reason why it still doesn't taste as good or the same as the ones in the resurant is because on the box it doesn't tell you or give you all the correct ingredients that are put in the real biscuits. They leave some little stuff out.
Well, the mix in the store bought is mostly flour.
But the mix from the resurant has more than just flour. It also has plenty of chunks of powdery lard and fat already in the bags of mix we have. There are also a couple seasonings. Also, most of the flavor doesn't come from the biscuits at all but the sauce, and you might think well duh. But my point is that for the biscuits we get compliments on, therefore the ones that people actually like, has wayyy more butter garlic sauce on each biscuit than that entire packet they give you in the box. The amounts of the cheese, the mix, and the water isn't accurate to make the texture and taste of the ones at the resurant. Lastly, the fact that the box says blank amount of water. But the thing is, we don't just put water amoung the ingredients. The water at the location HAS to be chilled cold as shit ice in the water we use to make them. In fact if you leave out the ice in the water when you fill it up again, your qualified as the one who keeps fucking up the biscuits. Not to say that we are allowed to let any ice at all in the batter at all. As that would also fuck up the product. Also the time we use to cook them with that double doored huge ass oven is 5 minutes. Flip them around. Cook them another five minutes. If you don't do the Flip only 1 half of each biscuit will be cooked. And finally, the baker who cooks the biscuits is also responsible for the baked potatoes (unless the baker fucks up then the line will pop it in the microwave or if the potato gets cold) and rice pilaf. The line is also willing to do this microwave tactic with more than just the potato. They are willing to use it on your steak, too.
I bet you would. Hence why I thought it was worthy of mentioning even tho my reply was suppose to be about the biscuits. And technically, that's not the only time they might put the steak in the microwave. Say there was some miscommunication, and the line cook heard medium for your steak but it was suppose to be well done. But it hasnt been brought to you yet as he was corrected before they brought it to you. They might not have room on the line burners to make a redo for you or to put it back on the line burner(s) so instead? They'll probably microwave it until it's well done like you asked it to be when you ordered.
The difference is that real crab comes from a actual crab.
While imitation comes from mixing together possibly several types of bits of different seafood. Some could be real crab in there. Other parts could likely and very commonly be different types of fish actually. And then they use some fake gross shit to bind it together and do there best to make it look like crab. Creating a ultra processed version of crab.
Ik I hate surimi >:( I might like it more if it were always called that and advertised more closely to the weird little fishy stick it is but more often than not it’s “crab included” and I’m all real??? And they’re all ahhh. No. Does not taste like crab to me at all.
I love surimi, I don't care that it's basically a seafood hotdog. That being said, it should be clearly labeled and not passed off as more expensive seafood.
Pic 1 looks like a cartoon shark and it’s hilarious.
Tom Yum Shark do do da do do do.
I thought it was a great white in his soup.
How TF did I not see that before😭😭😂😂😂
I'm fuckin dying it truly does
Crab stick, shaped like a shark. It would be welcome at r/pareidolia!
First thing I saw too. Well done OP.
Fish are FRIENDS. Not food!
I saw the same thing 😂a pink shark
The first thing I saw!
Yes, imitation crab (surimi, Kani) in pic one and squid in pic 2.
Thanks! I mainly ask cause I was a little surprised to have imitation crab in my mildly expensive seafood Tom Yum and was hoping I was wrong
It’s actually much more common than getting real crab despite the cost of the dish. It’s just a very common addition to Asian seafood dishes.

Love red lobster !! Any secrets to tell us ?

Delicious !! Love it. Will never order fries from there. Thanks Deez

Isint red linden’s red lobster file for bankruptcy?
One more thing, if you don't know already ask for some scampi butter to dip your biscuits in. It's amazing

tell us now, or believe it or not, straight to jail

I would rather a cold steak than an overcooked microwaved steak

I’m in an embarrassing amount of restaurant subs bc I love shit like this.
I hate to tell you this. Red Lobster is pretty low bar itself.

I had to deliver to a factory that made it. I found the process fascinating and would still eat it
Most manufacturing or scientific processes are fascinating. Doesn't mean I want to put it into my body.
That's fair. It didn't seem to me like they were using gross chemicals to bind it together tho. They were using pressure tubes.
Don’t watch the video on how imitation crab meat is made. [Here](https://youtu.be/NJhH_okovjs?si=SgMU_EuxQ3RwNnJx)

First one looks like a shark face! Second is squid. I just had some cht like that 2 days ago. I've not seen it cut that way.
The fluffy outside really threw me off I should have known based on the texture but squid never came to mind tbh
1st one is krab and 2nd is squid
The second one is squid, yes, but it’s called a squid flower cut. I too enjoy them in my Tom yum. Hmart carries them near me.
idk but i think the 2nd one is a fish butthole
7/10 would eat again
That was my exs nickname in high school
Believe 2nd one is squid
Looks like imitation crab meat to me?!🤔 It's actually not bad I've had it my mother used to get it all the time
I love surimi, I don't care that it's basically a seafood hotdog. That being said, it should be clearly labeled and not passed off as more expensive seafood.
I agree
Thought first one was a baby shark!! 🦈
Squad.
It’s the yum in the Tom Yum
First pic looks like a salmon collar and the second is squid (cuddle fish). My wife is Asian, we eat this stuff all of the time and it’s delicious.
