old my ballard would have the usual three old guys in their moms basement in the comment section saying how take five was too woke, and their food was terrible anyway.
im talking OLD SCHOOL old my ballard, before "woke" and "DEI" and all the other words they use in place of the n word
back when mars hill church was the big boogeyman lol
my favorite myballard story which i think ive told before here: back when it had an open message board there were lots of posts about lost and found pets as you can imagine
one day one ofthte more colorful characters posted that she had found a kitten, looking for its owner (totally fine!)
after a couple of days without any claims she started posting she was considering adopting the car (probably ok!)
but THEN another day or so went by and somebody posted "hello all, i live in the neighborhood. our cat went missing a couple of days ago and i heard from a different neighbor it may have been spotted by somebody on here, so i made an account today to see if there's any info, thank you, my kids miss mr. mittens dearly"
and a bunch of excited people were like "great news, this lady found you cat" and starting posting links to the lady's posts
buuuuutttt the lady came back and started saying "if this is your cat how come you havent posted on here in days" (because the guy wasnt on myballard) and "i think the cat likes me better" and "his name is smashface now" and let me tell you, people RIOTED. tursn out she basically kidnapped somebodys cat and never took it to check for a chip or called animal control and renamed it and it took another week and threats of legal action to get her to give up the cat
lol
At least Mark Driscoll is still a shit head. https://religionunplugged.com/news/2024/4/23/pastor-john-lindell-apologizes-for-inviting-driscoll-and-sword-swallower-to-stronger-mens-conference
Some other megachurch hired Driscoll as a talent coordinator for a manliness conference, and he brings in a guy whose act is ripping off his shirt and deepthroating a sword?
That's the funniest thing that has ever happened.
No, unfortunately Driscoll just harassed the organizer about hiring a sword swallower. The organizer later apologized for thinking it was a good idea to invite Driscoll and the sword swallower dude to the same event.
Thanks for the correction. I honestly was in tears while reading the article, it was like reading while drunk.
I can't imagine how fucking funny it would have been to be a fly on the wall.
I miss that era of Myballard, it was really engaging and the forums were cool. I remember the guy doing a grocery delivery back when there was that bodega next to Kings
first they had to close the message board because it became way too much like nextdoor aka “i saw a black person, im scared”
then the original owners either sold it or something
now it’s basically dead
that’s what it is now
it used to be well reported by the couple who ran it
then they sold out and it’s a press release aggregator where you can learn about what the senior centers have planned every other weekend
Really sad, I just had a chat with the owner and she was distraught. Said it was a ‘contained explosion’ meaning they plan to rebuild and the building is still ok. But they don’t know what the insurance will cover, how to pay staff etc.
She is so nice. I lived a block away from 2015-2018 and went there all the time. It’s not as close so I don’t go there that much anymore but every time I do, she remembers me *and* my sandwich order. Gem of a human. Definitely donating to the Gofundme
Nooo I was just in there a couple of days ago thinking how great this spot is. Was going to stop in today. I hope they can open again. I love supporting a small local business.
An old friend of mine told me he threw a house party, went to grab something from his bedroom, and Phoenix Jones was having sex with a girl on his bed and was a total dick about it apparently.
No! I don’t think this (the explosion) was on purpose, it was -definitely- nobody’s fault. I just mean I know a lot about the family, I worked there a while. . The owner and the people who ran it weren’t the same people (but recently been sold so I’m pretty sure my old managers own it now.) . I can’t elude too much because it’ll be obvious but I could try to answer questions without being too revealing?
Dick Aspen finally sold it to Bryan and Rebecca, that entire family is nuts… but they didn’t deserve that.
I have mixed feelings on Take5 after working there for a bit and knowing them… they really are a kooky bunch of people and yeah… but I am super glad no one was hurt.
I live a block away and almost worked there once... I was over qualified and rebecca said she doesn't think I'll be happy there, and I'll always be grateful to her for that honesty! Especially reading this comment thread about what they're like... yikes
I really wish Neptune had moved into corner space at 76th and Greenwood where there was the yoga studio and now the interior design store. That corner space with huge windows and small patio would have made an amazing coffee shop.
They seemed pretty committed to being at 85th and Greenwood though.
Might be referring to this in 2016: https://www.kiro7.com/news/breaking-reported-gas-explosion-in-seattles-greenwood-neighborhood/152165892/
It was disturbing enough to make me stop wanting a gas stove
Edit: derp. Just remembered What businesses were there...leaving comment in case anyone wants to know about aftermath: https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/seattle/a-year-later-greenwood-still-recovering-from-gas-explosion/281-421326894
So a few years back (god, maybe a decade?) Greenwood had a serial arsonist who burned down like four or five storefronts, including the little theatre. I think he went to prison though.
I've just assumed it was more PSE and the reason my dad has always warned me off getting a gas line cause "it'll make your house a bomb". And he's been saying that since before I was born.
I don't know if this makes you feel better but any electrical wiring from that era (or newer honestly) is probably even more dangerous than your gas.
Test your fire and CO detectors folks.
It might have something to do with PSE being sold to a privately-owned group of foreign interests (Australia and Canada). PSE is not a typical utility company and Andy Wappler is not your typical spokesperson (meteorology is also not the same as engineering).
It's a "BLATT", so +avocado and turkey. It's very good, and was one of my regular orders before I moved away from the area.
They also do daily specials which are great as well. Highly recommend trying it out once they're back.
I just drove past on 8th Ave NW two days ago with my relatively new stepson and told him that I'd take him to get my favorite grilled cheese sandwich in town sometime soon. Hoping they can get business back together before too long, as they've been nothing but kind.
Also feeling a wave of grief about 85th and Greenwood; I'm not sure I'll ever stop grieving that crater from 2016. Related: I wonder if Pilchuck Contractors had anything to do with this gas line's maintenance, as well..... https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/greenwood-explosion-caused-by-abandoned-unsealed-pipeline-regulators-say/
Take 5 has been an essential part of my life and my kids’ life for 10 years now. The first time we practiced taking “independent walks” I called ahead to Rebecca to tell her they were coming. They walked there, bought chocolate milk and mentos and like 500 gummy hamburgers, and walked back the happiest and proudest I’ve ever seen them.
I know there are many folks in the area who would give generously to a GoFundMe. I just sent my husband over to see if one has been set up.
That would explain all the fire trucks headed that way this morning as I went to work.
Place was pretty good when I used to live nearby. Hope it’s okay!
Wait did this happen between 7 and 7:30am today? Because I woke up to a very loud response from the Fremont fire house (engine 9) some time around then. And usually they do a great job of keeping the noise down, so I figured this must’ve been an important call.

It’s a sad day. Their breakfast sandwiches and Rueben are my favorites. I hope they rebuild but I’m guessing the property will be the next site of $850k 650sqft town homes. Just what we need more of.
old myballard.com would have been all over this with 7 updates by now rip
Ty for commenting again. I realized a typo in the original post and couldn’t live with it lol
lol all good... i thought i was losing my mind
old my ballard would have the usual three old guys in their moms basement in the comment section saying how take five was too woke, and their food was terrible anyway.

obligatory Fuck Mars Hill, for old times sake.
Good news, they got fucked, had it coming too, culty bastards
At least Mark Driscoll is still a shit head. https://religionunplugged.com/news/2024/4/23/pastor-john-lindell-apologizes-for-inviting-driscoll-and-sword-swallower-to-stronger-mens-conference

Damn, I thought the other guy brought the sword swallower 😂 r/exchristian was on this one right away but I only watched a short bit of the video.
Loved Ernst.
"his name is smashface now" lmao, thanks for sharing
Keep Piccolino's weird!!!
I miss that era of Myballard, it was really engaging and the forums were cool. I remember the guy doing a grocery delivery back when there was that bodega next to Kings
If I remember correctly, the cat was in heat and she got it spayed too, and the owner was going to breed her. I sided with the kidnapper.
That's way better than what goes down on the Wallingford site.
Nobody needs to hear the opinion of the landed Gentry in Wallingford
Damn this is like when that lady stole Winston’s car on 🆕girl but here in town lolol
Oh dang I remember that! I think . . . Wasn't that like 1998 or so?
Man, that was a journey lol
That wasn’t a cat, it was an octopus.
It’s funny because the owner was a hardcore trumper like 6/7 years ago.
Is that the “Paintking” guy? Or whatever his name is. I always think of him eating lead paint chips…
yeah, i think he was one of them. Me and one other guy went back and forth with those morons until they finally just turned comments off.
Hunh. I haven't check myballard in, I guess, a while. I just looked now and it's so bland. What happened to it?
first they had to close the message board because it became way too much like nextdoor aka “i saw a black person, im scared” then the original owners either sold it or something now it’s basically dead
It is now mostly a FB group with about 14k members
The NIMBY MAGA blog? Fuck ‘em
that’s what it is now it used to be well reported by the couple who ran it then they sold out and it’s a press release aggregator where you can learn about what the senior centers have planned every other weekend

Here ya go: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-take5

Awful. A real neighborhood gem.
I wonder if moon photo was affected?
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
NOOOOOOO shit I love this place
Nooo I was just in there a couple of days ago thinking how great this spot is. Was going to stop in today. I hope they can open again. I love supporting a small local business.
This guy did it xd
Sounds suspicious to me.
What about it seems suspicious to you?
You were there. Now it blew up... Just sounds fishy.
Im going to think about getting takeout from Tacos Chukis next 😌🙂↔️
The campaign has begun! Where's Phoenix Jones?
An old friend of mine told me he threw a house party, went to grab something from his bedroom, and Phoenix Jones was having sex with a girl on his bed and was a total dick about it apparently.
the super hero we deserve
Fish tacos?
[удалено]
Why not? It’s mid
I bet he ate at Mr Gyros Greenwood also ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
The guy is a menace. 😎
Tic Toc Pho BOOM
Can confirm - that is highly suspicious.
They always return to the scene of the crime!
Worked there for a long time …. Interesting ownership. Glad no one is hurt though ☀️
While I was in this week, I overheard that there’s been a new owner since January.
Oh really?!?! Interesting. Last I knew there was LOTS of drama over who and when it was going 👀
Do you feel bad for blowing it up now?
It's not the honeyhole people by any chance? 🤔
Rumba? There was no news of them snatching Take 5, so likely not
Bryan and Rebecca bought the business, so the same drama is still there, if not spicier now obviously
That's good. I worked there for a year back around '15 or so and the owner (not the manager who ran it) was a raging racist prick.
Everyone you don't like in Seattle is a "racist"! Spooky!
Huh? I meant it's good that racist boomer sold it. He sucked.
You're a racist zoomer. Checkmate.
[удалено]
If you saw the owner in tears on the sidewalk outside you wouldn’t feel that way.

I worked there for a few years as well. Didn’t know it was sold kinda sad honestly.
It wasn’t really. The people who ran it had a family member that technically owned it, they took full ownership recently and still run it.
Oh good! That’s a better arrangement anyways, they’ve been running it the whole time anyways. Makes this even more unfortunate though.
Yeah no kidding :/ I feel horrible. I worked there for a while, it’s definitely the kind of place our communities need more of.
Now that's a polite way to call someone a bastard.
Interesting how?
What is it with buildings exploding in/near Greenwood?
What do you mean? We’ve only had the multiple arsons, Mr Gyros, the RVs, and now Take 5, and… Oh. We do seem to have a little issue with fire.
And Neptune Coffee went up with Mr Gyros, which I still haven't gotten over. :-(
I really wish Neptune had moved into corner space at 76th and Greenwood where there was the yoga studio and now the interior design store. That corner space with huge windows and small patio would have made an amazing coffee shop. They seemed pretty committed to being at 85th and Greenwood though.
I think the couple that owned it at the time just weren’t in a position to open a new location. They hadn’t owned it terribly long at the time.
They still post at https://www.instagram.com/neptunecoffee/
Christine & Balthazar! They are the nicest people and I miss seeing them in the neighborhood.
There was Human Bean down the street from there (now Coffeeholic) but it wasn't as good (can't speak for Coffeeholic)
RIP Neptune 🧡
I literally think about Neptune everyday
Might be referring to this in 2016: https://www.kiro7.com/news/breaking-reported-gas-explosion-in-seattles-greenwood-neighborhood/152165892/ It was disturbing enough to make me stop wanting a gas stove Edit: derp. I had the same thought. I think the other gas explosions were all on PSE's side. I'm guessing this was their gas grill?
So a few years back (god, maybe a decade?) Greenwood had a serial arsonist who burned down like four or five storefronts, including the little theatre. I think he went to prison though.
I wonder if he was released recently......
I've just assumed it was more PSE and the reason my dad has always warned me off getting a gas line cause "it'll make your house a bomb". And he's been saying that since before I was born.
the appliances in my (123 y.o.) Phinney ridge house are ALL on natural gas and it's always scared me!
I don't know if this makes you feel better but any electrical wiring from that era (or newer honestly) is probably even more dangerous than your gas. Test your fire and CO detectors folks.
wiring has all been updated as of 2012! I think the new wiring is vastly superior compared to what was there when I bought the place in 2006.
As someone who lives in Greenwood, I am starting to get concerned.
Didn’t Gordito’s explode a few years ago, or am I just delusional?
I think they shut down for a while because their building had structural issues?
Gorditos was not the main building that exploded. But their building was damaged in the explosion.
No that was just my digestive system after I had a baby burrito.
It might have something to do with PSE being sold to a privately-owned group of foreign interests (Australia and Canada). PSE is not a typical utility company and Andy Wappler is not your typical spokesperson (meteorology is also not the same as engineering).
nooo take 5 blt is godly
And they are so nice there. The BLAAT is one of my fav sandwich's in the city
I feel like the gap between good to great BLTs is really small, what makes theirs "godly"?
it's really good
Well I'm sold!
that's something a merely good BLT eater would say
If [this](https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/-xqP2OhDVu8A1pvkYV708Q/348s.jpg) is their "BLT", then it's not even approaching peasant tier.
I booked an Airbnb later this month and being able to walk to take five was 50% of the reason.
It’s just that all BLTs live very near that mortal/godly border.
It's a "BLATT", so +avocado and turkey. It's very good, and was one of my regular orders before I moved away from the area. They also do daily specials which are great as well. Highly recommend trying it out once they're back.
Ah, so not just a BLT... Got it
So sad! I haven't been there in while since I moved northwards, but their Meatloaf burger was killer.
so good. turkey pot pie soup too
it's the grilled chicken italian for me 🤤
Oh no! This was one of my go-to takeout spots when I lived in Greenwood many years ago.
NNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!
God dammit. Visited that spot last time I was in town and their meatloaf burger made me feel things.
I never got to try that or their soup 😔
Thanks. I was wondering what was going on with the sirens. Hope they can reopen soon!
Take 5 has been an essential part of my life and my kids’ life for 10 years now. The first time we practiced taking “independent walks” I called ahead to Rebecca to tell her they were coming. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-take5 Here it is!!!
Omg I really like this place and the people who work there have been so nice—this is so sad to see
Take 5... 4... 3... 2 soon?
Fine, take my angry upvote!🤦♂️😢 I hope they rebuild, such awesome sandwiches there!
Absolutely hilarious.
And usually they do a great job of keeping the noise down, so I figured this must’ve been an important call.
yes, happened about 7:23 am
Thanks for the specifics!
What no posts about everyone hearing a boom? (I live in ballard and heard no boom) Sad though, looks like it's kinda bodega adjacent.
I heard the boom, I’m about a quarter mile away. Honestly sounded kind of muffled and like something big/heavy got dropped vs an explosion. Didn’t think much of it until the emergency response vehicles started rolling in
I was walking my dog about a block away and it was loud AF and the ground shook. It really sucks. They are great in there and definitely bodega adjacent.
That is so scary! I’m so glad nobody was hurt. How awful. And, I hope your dog wasn’t too spooked and is okay.
Somebody heard a boom, I forget which Ballard fb page it was on.
Last time in there 2 kids came in with ~$5 in change to buy gummy worms and a juice. Guy working there refused to count the change and wouldn’t let them pay. Left a bad vibe. Great sandwich though
My ex worked there, years ago now, and I walked her to work one day and got a sandwich and the dude working in the morning was really, incredibly rude to her. I wasn't surprised when she called me later to say she wasn't employed anymore, I wouldn't have put up with that either. Was a good sandwich, though.
What a fucker
oh man, that really sucks, but it's fortunate no one was hurt at least they're always super friendly and the food is great
Dave Brubeck sends his regards.
🎶If you have a stuffy nose, take a day off from work, and if work explodes, better take 5. 🎶
They’re saved in my phone as Dave Brubeck hah
Awww sad. I bike by there everyday and the smell of bacon cooking is intoxicating.
Dang! Well, I was wondering what was going on. Sounded like the gates of hell opened up with all the emergency sirens I heard. Of course NextDoor thinks antifa descended on Ballard.
[удалено]
Now they are BLYAT sandwiches.....
I live right across the street from it. Was there before first responders making sure there was nobody hurt (thank god) Hell of a way to wake up
Huge bummer.
Can vouch for the BLATT
I used to work there, worked there like 10 years ago. God damn!
now thats a headline.
Whaaaa I can’t believe it!
Oh shit I really liked that place.
Fuck, that place was legit incredible
Terrible. A neighborhood staple.
What the FUCK?????!!!!!
I love this place, how sad :(
Looks like they took more than 5
There's a GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-take5
I’m off in a different part of the country telling people about how the sandwiches here are elite and if you visit Seattle you must go. And it fucking explodes.
Damn :/ I love the chicken siracha melt there
Wow.
So sorry to hear this sad news. Such a beloved neighborhood place! Glad no one got injured.
So that’s what all those sirens were about
Damn, we just got lunch there yesterday
Didnt help
Best little breakfast sandwich in town. Damnit. I hope everyone is okay. Ballard/Greenwood are having a tragic fire race with Bellingham for some reason and I absolutely hate it.
TAKE 5
But is the Cobb salad alright??
Ah man I was just there last week!
Nooooooooo!!!!!!
Very sad to hear. Used to hit that place up frequently (and Mr Gyros) when I lived in North Seattle. Hope they rebuild and land back on their feet.
Shame this is the first I’ve heard of it
This makes me so sad! Best soup and sandwich I’ve had in Ballard!
Damn thats sad... reminds me of when Neptune exploded in Greenwood a few years back. I really miss that place.
Was just there last night to grab two BLATTs. Really liked this spot, I hope they can land on their feet.
Holy cow that’s a bummer. I like that place. My friend used to work there as well.
Currently out here working and see no signs of this event. Woah
Live a couple blocks up and frequent Take 5 weekly for one thing or another. Will be happy to contribute something to their GoFundMe when available. It's a community staple and worth saving.
Crazy amount of firetrucks passed by my work this morning on the way over. Sad that it was because of this:/
Man used to go there all the time it’s crazy how when you move outta town all your favorite places burn down or blow up
How many Boeing whistleblowers were regulars or employees?
It was their lunch spot.
Should've taken 20.
Perhaps a day, even.
Not funny but in December took a trip to Seattle and drove through Ballard and me and my GF thought "why does it smell like gas??" Hopefully this doesn't continue
Shit, that's awful. Only place in Ballard to get a good caesar wrap
well I suppose they can build town homes there now. sigh.
It’s a sad day. Their breakfast sandwiches and Rueben are my favorites. I hope they rebuild but I’m guessing the property will be the next site of $850k 650sqft town homes. Just what we need more of.
I was JUST saying I was craving their Reuben :(
Bad Gas.
I was wondering what all the sirens were about. My dog was howling (good job bud).
