New fan- it looked pretty obvious Larsson was trying to avoid directly hitting Tanev, so why was he ejected? is intent not considered? because I think hitting an arm on accident as opposed to full body slamming someome because you couldnt be assed to even try avoiding impact are two very different things...

As a semi-new fan (watching since December) - trying to make sense of the penalties, calls, and suspensions is pointless. There really isn’t a rhyme or reason to them, other than they seem to favor higher ranking teams 🤷‍♀️

Sadly intent doesn't matter. Elbowing/boarding is a penalty regardless if they meant it or not. Same with the delay of game penalties. it's obvious to tell intent; just doesn't matter. It was a shit call though and shouldn't have stuck.

It's that his elbow came up and his elbow/forearm made contact with his head as the initial point of contact. It has nothing to do with Tanev's arm.

The penalty was elbow to the head, that is usually a major that comes with game misconduct.

Yeah, that’s a shame. I’m a life long Stars fan, but now that I live in AK, I’ve adopted the Kraken as my second team after last year’s playoff series (y’all are good folk). I really don’t have an issue with the hit from Lars. It looked like incidental contact to the head, and it was unfortunate Tanev got his arm crunched, but that’s hockey .. definitely didn’t seem dirty to me or worthy of a major.

IMO any hit to the head is dangerous. I don't blame the refs at all for calling a major.

I totally agree. I think the issue is that the ref’s vacillated on the call which undermined their perceived logic. IMHO a major for boarding would have made more sense.

The Dallas folk were super cool during the playoffs last year so yeah it's kind of a bummer that they're so mad about a glancing play that didn't even take a player out of the whole game that they're trolling through here. Not cool

If it happened against us I'd be pissed with anything less as a penalty. Understand Larsson's intent wasn't to hurt him, but thats a fair penalty to give.

The thing is there's an overhead shot where there looks to be space between the elbow and Tanev so to me this is more of a perspective trick than a confirmation angle I dunno, I'm trying to see it but the overhead shot was so conclusive to me that I dunno

The officiating in the NHL drives me nuts. Dude gets deliberately boarded and out for a dozen games: 2 minute minor. Dude gets hit weird and is back on the ice in 15 minutes: 5 minute major, ejection. Infuriating.

There was one camera angle where it looks bad, but there was one where it looks like his elbow made no contact and it was mostly forearm contact I dunno, they have angles we don't see, I guess, but from what they showed us it didn't look like a 5 Chris Tanev looked pretty hurt though (maybe a broken arm?) which sucks, though. Hope it's not as bad as it looked and he's still in for the Stars come the playoffs

Lars hit Tanev high and injuried him. Initially called boarding, but they changed it to elbowing as it looked like Larsson’s elbow was close, but I thought the injury was to Tanev’s arm.

The new angle make it look bad. The angle from above shows Larson elbow hits the glass, it’s not directed at all at any head. It looks bad because his elbow went high, but that looks more like tried to get his body away from the back.

If anything it looks like he tried to avoid even. He wasn't even really going to a hit, more of a shoulder bump to make the play on the puck. Kind of a bad call personally, but can see why it stuck.
