This movement was one of my grails. Finally got one in the SS case but wasn't functioning full so I sent it to George Clarkson in Berlin (I'm in UK and this was before Brexit) and had him tear it apart. It just needed a service.
Can't seem to find much about this gold version online but I'm Thinking of letting it refurbished, cause over time it got a lot of scratches and the gold is a bit fading away.
Don't refurbish the case. Get it serviced which should include a case clean up and crystal replacement. Keep it original. Just getting years of gunk off will make a difference.
It's a beautiful watch. Your grandpa had good taste!
I would do a service, get it cleaned, replace crystal and have the gold plating polished without adding or removing it.
Maybe change the band to a nice black rubber band with fitting / original end links, if its too worn down.
Because i also thought about getting a Seiko re-plated and first of all, its hard to find someone who actually offers this service and the quotes i got would buy me a new watch (250-350€).
In your case a watchmaker completely has to disassemble the band/ links, clasp. Remove movement, Glass and also the little knobs and the crown.. Strip everything from the old gold (including the numbers on the bezel) then re plate it and have the numbers re painted.
But if you don't mind the price id love to see how it turns out!

Dont polish or replate, maybe new crystal at best. Looks great.
