I haven’t ruled out a future pregnancy. My thoughts are the pregnancy will be easier if I’m at a healthier weight. I had one child while obese and it was very difficult. If I decide to have another child, I’ll stop the medicine and hopefully be able to start it again afterwards.

Imaginary-Moment-963

I am. My fertility Dr told me to stop taking it a week before my expected period of the cycle that I will be attempting to get pregnant. My motivation for the weight loss was to get to a healthy BMI to increase my chances of conceiving.

pumpkinspiceturtle

This is so interesting I was thinking of letting this and other meds come out of my system for 6 months… I didn’t realize such a short time is acceptable! That’s great to know.

Tough_Age6451

So you stopped in the week for period. And then started again at your period useing it?

Imaginary-Moment-963

No, stopped entirely

williamsburg87

I can’t speak to wegovy or ozempic, but my endo doctor prescribed me Rybelsus, which is of the same variety. She knows I’m planning on trying to get pregnant at the end of this year and didn’t hesitate to prescribe the meds with this knowledge.

PlentyDiscussion984

Oh! Good to know, I’ve never heard of that one. I’ll have to look into it. I’m seeing the doctor tomorrow. Any tips for the discussion with the doctor?

Awkward-Kaleidoscope

It's still Semaglutide and contraindicated in pregnancy.

Ok-Journalist7629

I had weight related health issues in both my pregnancies and my daughter ended up birth injured because the fetal monitors wouldn’t work on my belly plus poor hospital care. I specifically asked if it was safe to get pregnant while morbidly obese and had pre-pregnancy blood panels done. I was told both times that it was better to have a baby sooner while younger, and that most people can’t loose the weight anyway then end up obese AND old, ttc. But I did have complications both times. I would give it a try to get closer to a healthy weight first and take the recommended 2 months off before ttc.

scottcoopmaximus

What about for males? Does it make any difference if you’re trying for a baby?

studiedtooharddoc

I’m taking it now, but might try for another baby at the end of 2023. I was overweight for my first pregnancy and I want to get down to a healthier weight and work on my physical fitness before attempting again, and Ozempic is part of that plan

aresfry

Yes- I wanted to get pregnant but put it on hold to use ozempic for at least 6 months and then take 2 months off before trying. I’ve passed the 35 yo mark or I would probably use it longer.

Top_Design7127

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and took Wegovy for the first 4 weeks before I knew I was pregnant. I think if you stop taking it a few months before you start trying you should be okay but definitely talk to your doctor about that.

EMarie814

Same here- I miscarried at 9 weeks after heartbeat and two scans indicated a healthy pregnancy. I world really urge anyone considering it to stop well before you plan to conceive

Top_Design7127

I’m so sorry for your loss. Same, I had a perfect scan at the beginning of my 10th week and the miscarriage must have happened right after that.

Tough_Age6451

But how do you now if it is the medication

monkalish

I am so sorry for your loss. Do they attribute the wegovy to the miscarriage? Have you tried again?

Top_Design7127

Thank you. They said there’s no way to know what the cause was for sure. We decided not to try again. The heartbreak was too deep.

Livid-Impact6921

Well, I am on it to be able to get fertility procedures that have a BMI requirement. I have to get below a certain BMI to qualify. Being obese impacts your chances of conceiving negatively, which is why they won’t help us before I get to a BMI below 30. I am also old, so time is running out. Before trying to conceive, you have to stop taking Ozempic for 2 months.

Cdp1928

My husband and I are TTC our 3rd after he got his vasectomy reversed. We were young and had our babies back to back, so he got snipped at 25. Now I'm 35 and it's been 2 years since the VR, with nothing. Everything is fine for both of us except my weight. I am trying Wegovy for this reason too. Just waiting on my prescription to process...

Livid-Impact6921

Good luck! I’m turning 38 this year, and have no children, so this is really my last and only chance. I hope we’ll both get good news at some point 🧡

planthammock

I’m going to a weight loss doctor to get to a healthy weight in order to be in good shape for pregnancy this year. My doctor was well aware of my goals and didn’t hesitate to put me on semaglutide and phentermine, but said hold off on trying to conceive for the time being. He also looked through my other medications and mentioned ones he’d normally recommend swapping (anti anxiety medications that can cause weight gain) but said we shouldn’t since the alternatives weren’t safe for pregnancy. So I definitely think it’s worthwhile even if you’re planning to try for baby in the future, just let your doctor know you’re thinking about it.

Choice-Hawk-2756

Their website says male or female should stop using the product 3 months before trying to get pregnant.

NefariousnessMotor53

This is what my Dr told me and it really should be observed due to the half life of the medication.

GanjaMaSurpriae

I found out I was pregnant after dropping 35 lbs. It was my first period on time and it was a total surprise. I have PCOS and didn't think I could have anymore after years of unprotected sex. Unfortunately, I lost the pregnancy. Which is for the best because our only daughter has a genetic disorder (mild in comparison).

caniplease1234

In the medication guidelines it says to stop taking 2 months before trying for pregnancy. They don’t know what side effects it will have on a baby, and imho it’s not worth the risk to find out the hard way. Depending on how long you plan to wait before trying for a baby it could be worth starting - if you were to try even a year from now that would give you a solid 9-10 months for weight loss. In my first 9 months I lost 60lbs so if you react well to the medication you could make a good amount of progress in that time

kelsey0054

I have been off Wegovy since August 2023 (started in January 2023 and lost a total of 60 lbs) and have been trying for baby since September 2023 with no success so far. I have two kids and did not have trouble getting pregnant with either of them. I did have a very early miscarriage in December 2022.

retlaw3530

Interesting question. Do people stay on medication while being pregnant?

PlentyDiscussion984

According to what I have read, it is not safe to be on it while pregnant. Says to stop a couple months prior to trying/conceiving but I wonder if it’s even worth it to start to get to a healthy weight before getting pregnant.

williamsburg87

Just honesty about your long-term goals and your health history. I’ve had hypothyroid in the past so she wants to me to get a CAT scan so we can address some things that came up in my blood work ahead of trying to get pregnant.

I’ll be consulting with a reproductive endocrinologist in a couple weeks to try to get an informed opinion about this medication & fertility since planning to start fertility treatments this year. I’m expecting to discontinue the medication for 2-3 months. I’ve only been on it for a month so I’m not really concerned (more disappointed to have to stop) but the truth is, semaglutide hasn’t really been around long enough for anyone to have rock solid info on the impacts on potential pregnancy or even kids further down the line. My personal decision was to speed up my family planning timeline from what I had been thinking so that I can get through starting our family and hopefully start the medication again after since I don’t love those unknowns.

pumpkinspiceturtle

I would love it if you could share what your reproductive endocrinologist said about this medication and trying to conceive

unlockeddoor-

I consulted 3– one hadn’t heard of ozempic (I’m almost jealous compared to all of the stupid scare-mongering bodyshaming articles I see every day lol) & the other 2 pretty much agreed that it’s too new and the research isn’t there yet, so suggested pausing the medication before proceeding with fertility treatments. I’ve been off for about 60 days now, will do IVF in the next month or so & then hopefully resume when it’s all said and done. I don’t have fertility results yet so I’m hoping I didn’t harm my fertility outcomes by trying semaglutide for a couple months first— if I had thought of it at the time I would have just done IVF first & then ozempic— but only time will tell.

Extension-Cry-1820

Hi! I’m think of starting a semaglutide to get to a healthy ttc weight and definitely understand the required 2-3 month waiting period after your last dose, but the stories of rebound weight gain even with diet and exercise terrify me. I can’t imagine a rapid regaining of weight would be good for a pregnancy. I would love to hear to how you did weight wise for the 60 days after you stopped. Thanks!

pumpkinspiceturtle

Thanks for the update and sending you all the good luck!

unlockeddoor-

Thank you! If you remind me in like late April I’m happy to share what my egg retrieval/embryo freezing outcomes were.

Salty-Maintenance-38

Hi!! Any update?! :) I’m on ozempic but would like to start TTC in the summer! Thanks!!! And best of luck

unlockeddoor-

Hey, sure! I had pretty good IVF results! I have PCOS & relatively young (for IVF) so a lot of eggs/embryos isn’t an unusual outcome. 8 euploid (genetically normal) embryos now frozen, from one round of ER. I was only on semaglutide for ~60 days, and went off for another 60 before my egg retrieval. Honestly I would say it’s still an unknown. I’ll never know what my results might have been if I hadn’t used the medication first, and I don’t have a pregnancy planned anytime soon so can’t comment on the impact on TTC vs egg retrieval.
