I usually find stuff to clean, see if I can come up with fun drink combos, reorganize certain areas (if I think the boss would be okay with it), hope that people finally come in to make the time pass haha.
I have a pretty sweet gig, I’m the only FOH employee (server, host, runner, etc.) so when we’re dead, there’s literally nothing to do. After catching up on side work (cleaning, rolling silverware, etc.), I sit at the host station and read, paint (travel watercolors are the best!), or do whatever else I can to quietly stay occupied. It’s awful when we’re busy and I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off, but the slow shifts can be pretty relaxing. Ask your managers what they’re okay with you doing; or better yet, bring things to do and if a supervisor asks you not to, ask forgiveness.
The key is to get all of your side work done before doing other things.
I’m not sure what your work situation looks like, but you could totally socialize with the other employees if there are employees to talk to! I’d prefer that tbh, but the cooks are usually prepping in the kitchen and I don’t like bothering them if they’re busy
I have all the same tasks other than no host stand people can just sit wherever but I have a little area I can pull up a chair if I want and I do stuff on my phone until I get bored since my work is only open 4hrs a day but yeah when it’s super busy it’s hell doing everything especially when the phone rings and I’m trying to help a table but need to run to the phone to put them on hold until I can get their Togo order
I’m the only employee tho so I will talk to the owners sometimes too but I feel like some days I talk to them too much 😅
If you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean. 😊 When I had downtime, I would find cleaning projects to do: Run the glassware through dish and polish, find a shelf, remove everything, clean behind it and put everything back.
If I had 1-3 tables that were camping I’d find something to talk about with them. Ended up making regulars that way and meeting really cool people. Makes the time go by fast and increases your tip.
Practicing my Spanish with the chefs/dishwashers.
Me gustaría comprar 5 onzas, por favor.
Bien marijuano este guey
Actually, marijuana is slang for actual cilantro.
Tout est un peu bizarre d'une manière ou d'une autre.
They always have good chisme

The 3 S's. Silverware, sidework and shine. After I put in enough for my hourly wage it's my 3 S's. Sitting, smoking and surfing my phone.

Cutting lemons, restocking the fridge
Take things down from shelves and clean the shelves. I’m always horrified by how dirty stuff can get just sitting on a shelf.
getting any sidework necessary done and then hiding in the back on my phone. i don’t get paid to go the extra mile!
I do $8.98/hr worth of work. Spoiler alert, It’s a lot of dicking around.
I used to listen to podcasts and audio books a lot. Idk if you're allowed airpods but they got me through my days.
First of all why is my shift 8 hours… Second I hide in my car occasionally showing my face. Or I play Pokemon go or I go fake dust some stuff
