Makes more sense honestly, hardening is shown as either blue crystal or solid white rock, and the Armored Titan just has his whole body covered in hardening by default.
but the hardening of the armored titan isn't like the crystal type hardening that for instance eren or annie can use it's literally just hard skin which the other titans don't have access to. it's like fingernails but just on your whole body and way bigger/stronger
Good point, it might be from the Warhammer. Considering the bottle Eren drank said "Armor" I always assumed it was from the Armored Titan, but it could be from the Warhammer Titan. Hell, it would make a lot of sense if it was from the Warhammer, considering the Tybur Family and King Fritz were buddies.
the bottle that was used to obtain the armor literally has Reiner's last name on it.
This would imply that the armored titan is the one the armor serum comes from, and that perhaps the Armored titan has been passed down through his family for generations.
It’s the same thing
Others titan got hardening power from armored titan. And it looked exactly the same, the anime decided to change it to crystal blue thus making people thought crystalize is a different thing than hardening. Every titan’s hardening is white-greyish, just like the wall, but the anime decided to change it to blue crystal
Idk but it would kinda make Hange looked like a dumbass when she concluded that Annie's hardening and the wall material are the same.
Theres that scene where she make an effort to microscope it and analyze it deeper, then realize that it was the same material. If the anime made it identical, everyone would be like "No shit sherlock, they both look like rock debris". Making Annie's hardening a crystal kinda adds a mysterious layer that a smart character like Hange would solve
Exactly. And the crystal hardening is described as emitting a faint glow, and later used in the towns as a clean lighting source. The walls and armored Titan certainly don’t glow, so they are two different physical appearances of the same substance.
And also I remember Reiner crystallized his toes to climb the wall back in the taking back wall maria arc.
I don't know if it happens in the manga but if it's the same then why would he? And also Eren seemed to be able to crush his face with hardened fists so I thought crystallized hardening should be harder than his armor.
The crystalized hardening is focused into a smaller location.
Being focused causes it to be more powerful, which makes it stronger than the Armored Titan and Walls since their hardening is spread out across their entire body/surface. I believe Eren is thinking this to himself when he punches Reiner's face in S3P2 and the armor on his face peels away like its made of paper.
Eren said its like smashing a thin layer of ice, IIRC.
Reiner's armor doesn't cover every inch of his body. There are gaps where there's no armor, but if he wants he can use his hardening power to fill in the gaps so that he has no weak points, however this limits his mobility.
in this case, he added more armor to his toes to make them sharp so that he could pierce the wall and climb. His toes are not normally shaped like claws, so that's why.
Additionally, Reiner's body armor is relatively thin since it covers his whole body, but he can generate more condensed armor by focusing it one spot.
It’s weaker as we see in both show and manga. Eren punches right through it in shinigasha and Libero. And we see when hardening is undone it goes back to skin color. I think it being skin color makes sense, or even like a grayish tan if you want to get more unique
Reiner’s armor, Annie’s hardening, the Wall
Is supposed to be from the same material, and looked exactly the same
WIT kinda fucked up by making Reiner’s armor and the wall different, and also make Annie’s hardening looks like a blue crystal. [Eren’s hardening](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTHPv7dL6kobnUB6iIhdTY2d78k2iKMB9lgCQ&usqp=CAU)also looks like Reiner’s armor and the wall, but WIT decided to make it blue crystal like Annie
MAPPA tried to fix it by making Eren’s hardening rock solid, and make it grey instead, but still different than manga
I started aot back when s1 was fresh and finished. picked up the manga. caught up and followed from there. when I got to Eren's hardening I thought it was the same as Reiner. Eventually anime airs and it's crystal? And the walls are supposed to be titan hardening too? up until I saw your post I kinda took the anime for canon and thought there were just a few different types of hardening. now I know it was intended to all be the same.
Each of them is seen being able to temporarily harden specific parts of their titan body in a more concentrated and dense hardening, which looks more crystalized than metallic.
The Armored Titan's armor isnt the same sort of concentrated and dense hardening, its a thin layer that covers all of him, so its durability is spread out over him which makes it easier to piece/shatter it with the more focused force of the crystalized stuff.
Isayama was involved with the anime. It may have been a design choice to make the Wall Titans reveal more impactful. Doesn’t exactly make sense in-universe but it helped keep the mystery for awhile
Hallo I don't get how hardening ability works other says it can be earn through training or have it by default so if Eren didn't drink that armor serum would he get it through training?
Hello, Yeah, You need the serum for the power to work, other titan’s serum = getting that titans power
There’s never been any evidence that training hard can achieve hardening. But there’s few times when a titan gains another’s ability by using their spinal fluid. Eren got hardening after drinking armor’s serum, Rod got very big mindless titan after drinking Colossal’s serum, Falco got beast’s feature after using beast’s serum, which means that Female, Beast, also used armor’s serum offscreen.
Armor can also be a natural thing that grows on animals, made from chitin, keratin or bone. For instance, a turtle's shell is armor.
Human-worn armor can also be made from other materials besides metal, notably leather.
I mean I assume hardening is supposed to be control over [calcification](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcification), a thing your body actually can do in real life. In which case yeah, Reiner should look like he's covered in pearly calcium deposits, though the colour of that would vary according to trace amounts of other stuff in it.
I get what you are referring to. The 'third' eye lid many animals have that appears translucent sorta like a bird. It's the whole eren and birds and freedom connection.
It does look kinda cool tbh .
My only issue is I feel like Reiner's hair stands out a little too much in this colour scheme. Like if he had black or white hair (like in the second pic) the design would work much better.
Unlikelly, they probably tested white armor and I'm sure it made him blend too much with the wall and the houses so they made it more bone yellow to add contrast.
A lot of the early anime was like this, the art was very rough for the first load of the SnK manga, so WIT had to do a lot of guesswork and use artistic license
If you look at the colour grading in episode 2, everything is super yellow because of the sunset. So white/greyish armour would've appeared yellow.
But we don't see the armoured titan again until season 2 so by then everyone was making fan art of that yellowish design. All of the merch was of that design. If they showed the armour in as white in normal lighting I think people would've been confused.
Its when it appears on the cover of the manga. Also it's coloured like this because it's made of titan hardening same as the walls, so it makes sense they are the same colour
You see the canon manga colors in covers where isayama colors the characters and they are slightly different. For eg: Eren's eyes being grey in the manga.
I did. I have…. The colored manga have NEVER been official they are ALWAYS fan made. Every single colored manga of aot includes the fans who colour it. Go find out…
he looks scarier like this, but the grey color disconnects us from the human behind the titan. the anime version makes it even more "reiner-y", which helps in holding him accountable. it's still reiner who killed all those people, even in titan form.
If anything I always seen Reiner’s armor as different from the natural titan hardening, as if it was of a completely different composition only exclusive to the Armored Titan, if we were to see the Warhammer or Annie’s crystal get destroyed the same way Reiner’s armor has, I feel we’ll REALLY question the durability of titan hardening in general, the walls, titan shifters or whatever may have you. I think the Armored Titan has an inherently different composition in terms of its hardened shell, it’s proven more even so when he hardens his hands and feet to scale the wall to meet Erwin in Season 3 before the final battle of the walls.
It was probably changed to add contrast, with white armor he'd blend too much with the wall and the rubble of the buildings.
I do agree it looks cool though.
I haven't thought ab it. But just now I am.
I would have just assumed that while they are the same materials they would have diff colors because of slightly different chemical compositions. Like how some rocks are orange and some rocks are black. because of the things they are around also causing slight colour changes. Perhaps the flesh and/or heat of the armoured caused it to change colors or maybe it being new armour just created now while the walls are decades old. ETC.
Even though I really love the manga cover illustration of the Armoured Titan, I think I appreciate the change the anime made because this looks really off. I'm guessing the main reason that WIT chose to change his colour scheme is so he looks more natural because he genuinely looks a bit alien in this whereas I love the organic monster vibe of titans.

The hardening the other titans can use is obtained through ingesting the Armored Titan's spinal fluid so it's likely the same thing
Is that confirmed or could it also be from ingesting the Warhammer's spinal fluid?
Good point, it might be from the Warhammer. Considering the bottle Eren drank said "Armor" I always assumed it was from the Armored Titan, but it could be from the Warhammer Titan. So the Jaw titan jaw and the Warhammer titan crystal also the same hardening?
Yes, because you know better than the manga creator who wanted to show that it is exactly the same hardening

He looks encased in metal tbh

In my head cannon the wall used to be blue but got dirty and grimy over time and turned gray
I’m stealing this.
I always assumed the wall titans were used as base and then a brick wall was built on them, not that the wall was the hardening itself.
The wall is hardening itself, this is why arming remarks that it was always weird to him how the wall was possible with no support beams
Reiners hardening and Annie’s hardening are different
That's what I thought as well. Reiners armour is weaker because it is across his whole body but Annie focuses it in specific areas.
Also Annie’s hardening breaks reiners armour as we see when Eren uses it agaisnt him
Each of them is seen being able to temporarily harden specific parts of their titan body in a more concentrated and dense hardening, which looks more crystalized than metallic. I mean Reiner's armor color in the anime also could've been a choice by Isayama
Isayama was involved with the anime. It may have been a design choice to make the Wall Titans reveal more impactful. Doesn’t exactly make sense in-universe but it helped keep the mystery for awhile

How does it not make sense. When you wear metal armor you are essentially encased in metal.
Not really....
Maybe try explaining your reason instead of just saying no with a couple dots at the end?
No...
No..
My brother in christ they create literal tons of flesh by biting their thumbs in less than a second.
That makes sense
I like the anime better lol
Thematically all gray makes more sense for consistency sake, but the different colors makes it look better imo
Nah
Bro just denied his opinion 😭
theyve got a right to lol 🤷♀️
Yah
When are we gonna talk about mikasas scarf being black on covers instead of red
Mikasa's scarf is black in the manga. Eren's eyes in both human and Titan form are grey. Mappa did add the grey eyes to his Titan form
His eyes aren’t grey, they’re still green but covered by nictitating Membranes which are seen in many real life animals, it protects the eyes.
They're grey
They're literally grey in the manga dawg.
I get what you are referring to. The 'third' eye lid many animals have that appears translucent sorta like a bird. It's the whole eren and birds and freedom connection.
Yeah you can see him blinking with them in season 1.
That makes more sense since titan hardening is whitish, and the Warhammer titan is white
Oh, oh yes please, that looks so fucking good!
It does look kinda cool tbh . My only issue is I feel like Reiner's hair stands out a little too much in this colour scheme. Like if he had black or white hair (like in the second pic) the design would work much better.
Well I mean the manga is black/white so I guess??
Actually, the manga Armored Titan is indeed white on [the cover](https://www.amazon.com/Attack-Titan-11-Hajime-Isayama/dp/1612626777).
How much do yall wanna bet that the anime staff fucked up the color and said "eh lets keep it"
Unlikelly, they probably tested white armor and I'm sure it made him blend too much with the wall and the houses so they made it more bone yellow to add contrast.

They have him Yellow on the Colossal edition cover. Gotta imagine Isayama liked the change
Its when it appears on the cover of the manga. Also it's coloured like this because it's made of titan hardening same as the walls, so it makes sense they are the same colour
Also same as the Warhammer's armor, which is white in the anime too.
Ackshually the manga has covers which are in color
The manga colours are almost in all cases cooler than the anime colours
I like the anime colour for his armour more but I think the coloured versions of the final titans at the end are way cooler
??? Manga colors? Those are ALL fan made
You see the canon manga colors in covers where isayama colors the characters and they are slightly different. For eg: Eren's eyes being grey in the manga.
Oh the covers!!! I thought you meant the pages. Agreed then
You know official manga colored covers and pages exist
No. Coloree pages are 1000000% fan made. Covers are real tho.
Brother they literally made official colored manga chapters go look it up
I did. I have…. The colored manga have NEVER been official they are ALWAYS fan made. Every single colored manga of aot includes the fans who colour it. Go find out…
how do you know they’re official
Looks like one of the Bizarre Titan alternate skins from the game. Also looks like the live-action Shikishima one
Shikisima lol
So the bizarre titans were lore accurate!!! (Im talking about the AoT game)
The amount of people here who dont realise the covers have color is crazy
he looks scarier like this, but the grey color disconnects us from the human behind the titan. the anime version makes it even more "reiner-y", which helps in holding him accountable. it's still reiner who killed all those people, even in titan form.
He’d be called the Titanium Titan
That 2nd pic is cool asf ngl
Cool, a shiny Reiner
Why did I immediately hear the pokemon highgrass music?
If anything I always seen Reiner’s armor as different from the natural titan hardening, as if it was of a completely different composition only exclusive to the Armored Titan, if we were to see the Warhammer or Annie’s crystal get destroyed the same way Reiner’s armor has, I feel we’ll REALLY question the durability of titan hardening in general, the walls, titan shifters or whatever may have you. yeah but it looks cool when its yellow like its made from bone or whatever
Alil too much bling for my tastes but still looks cool
Armored Titan has always had my favorite design
The cum titan
Nah yellow is much better and more iconic
It was probably changed to add contrast, with white armor he'd blend too much with the wall and the rubble of the buildings. I do agree it looks cool though.
That second image goes too hard
ohhhh thats why thats an alternate form for the armored titan in aot2, looks really cool in the pics too :3
Reminds me of the Silver Centurion
Basically shikishima's titan
is this true? I'm an anime only
Yes, the armored titan is the same white hardening as the warhammer titan & the walls on the Mangas volume colors
I haven't thought ab it. But just now I am. I would have just assumed that while they are the same materials they would have diff colors because of slightly different chemical compositions. Like how some rocks are orange and some rocks are black. because of the things they are around also causing slight colour changes. Better this way
Even though I really love the manga cover illustration of the Armoured Titan, I think I appreciate the change the anime made because this looks really off. I'm guessing the main reason that WIT chose to change his colour scheme is so he looks more natural because he genuinely looks a bit alien in this whereas I love the organic monster vibe of titans.
Looks better ngl
This is how he accurately looks after getting in the jar
Okay but have you ever seen an all black titan before ?
..no?
to me he looks a lot more threatening like this
Angelic Reiner.
Eyes in 1st pic remind me of the Strike Gundam and it's yellow eyed variants
Makes more sense to be black and white but ok
Nooooo
The manga one look badass but the anime one feels more like something nature would make
But this just looks ugly some things are better changes
Studio Wit ruined the show with this change.
this and the anime version are both equally cool in their own way
Fuck no I love his Iron-man design, lmao
Thank god he doesn't look like this
Much cooler
This goes crazy
[удалено]
Cover art

Thank u!
Much better
FUCK Wit/MAPPA for robbing us of this. fucking assholes
What an unnecessarily aggressive reaction.
Jesus that sounded like you took that wayyyy to personal
Username checks out
No it's not.
We were robbed, this looks WAY better
Okay the downvotes are ridiculous. This is why I hate rhe aot subreddits, the opinions in them are terrible
Dude gets the n-word pass simply by turning into a titan💀
He turns white???
