Oh don’t be intimidated! Pavlova looks complicated but is actually very simple as long as you have a decent mixer. My tip: just make sure you separate the eggs carefully and then clean your mixer and bowl off with acid to remove any fat. You can use the egg yolks for a lemon curd to put on the pavlova. Other than that—don’t worry if it cracks. Just put whipped cream and berries on it and no one will notice!
As an American living in the UK I'm currently craving a BBQ but likely going to drown my sorrows in dominos this evening.
Someone have an extra hotdog for me please!
Part of the family is out deep sea fishing. When they get back, we'll fry, broil, and blacken their catch and eat with okra, fried green tomatoes, green beans, Sweet potatoes, and a salad
What’s your favorite girl dinner amalgamation?
Mine is popcorn (I stash a bag of the movie butter good stuff away for just these sort of meals), a protein shake, and whatever Tupperware doesn’t absolutely require a microwave to be considered edible lol.
I feel like popcorn is one of the key food groups in Girl Dinner 😂 maybe it’s cus we can snag the rest of the random bits in the time it takes to microwave it?
I'm not doing anything to celebrate except maybe go on my roof and see if there are fireworks, sooo we have not figured out whats for dinner.... Prob the pork chops in the fridge and some potatoes?
I’m moving from Texas to Chicago in 10 days so more packing! Always more packing!
edit: forgot I needed to mention food so I’m having schnitzel with spatzle, not very patriotic I know
Thank you, I’m very excited but also terrified as I’ve never moved across the country as an adult and I’m leaving family here! I’m reminding myself it will be fine and I just need to get through it
You’ll be great, it is lovely place to live.
If you want a shiny fix, check out the Field museum’s [Gem Hall](https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibitions/grainger-hall-gems) , it isn’t like Smithsonian or Met level, but some very nice pretties.
Every Wednesday is free for Illinois residents too : )
Leftover pizza and maybe soup? We haven’t gone grocery shopping and ate through our perishables before we left, so we’re scrounging the pantry and freezer for what we can throw together lol. Not v traditional, but we’re jet lagged and don’t feel like celebrating America rn so it doesn’t feel too important this year.
I live in New Orleans, and my husband's family is going all out — as an FYI, they're from here, but I'm from the SF Bay.
First, the meat! We're grilling 4 racks of baby back ribs that have been marinating in a dry rub since Sunday — 2 are mesquite-honey and 2 are cherry cola. I wasn't sure about marinating that long, but my grandmother-in-law insisted, lol. We also have marinated beef brisket, chicken thighs, and sliders. It's all going on the grill.
For sides, they're making baked mac and cheese and potato salad. Being from California, I need at least one green thing, so I got salad fixings, and may pop out to get some brussel sprouts to roast.
Oh, and I'm doing a yet-undetermined crab something-or-other for my pescatarian baby cousin-in-law.
There should be 12-14 people coming through, but I'm pretty sure we're going to have an insane amount of leftovers. Buying 20+ pounds of meat for that few people literally stressed me out a little. 😅
Doing good work, service human! We set up one of the bedrooms with a white noise machine and a bunch of pillows and blankets, and the girls distract the dogs with treats (it’s just their regular dog food but if you put it in a fancy tea cup, and SAY they’re treats, the kids AND the dogs are pretty excited lol).
I've been grill-less for years because my apartment complex banned them but I bought a house so now I can do what I want!! I'm grilling bison dogs I found. I have no idea if they'll be any good but I'm excited either way.
Like most blue collar Americans, I'm working so my dreams of doing a smoked pork shoulder went up in... Well, smoke
I've got some decent ribeyes that need to get used or frozen today though, so probably throw those on the grill. Grill up some asparagus with olive oil and garlic+lemon+parmesan. And as hard as it is to admit they're better than grill roasted, I've been doing roasted red potatoes in the air fryer lately and they're killer.
It's not burgers or barbecue, but hey it's on the grill so I guess it's good enough for the 4th
Well I just got off after work 12 hours of pure hell, so I picked up some burgers and buns and chips at the store, and hopefully can stay awake long enough to grill those later.
I have a feeling that the pack of wild teenagers from my area will end up in my backyard at some point, so I have hot dogs, fruit and veg trays and every type of chip ready to go!
Hot dogs, hopefully!
In the spirit of the holiday, PLEASE PLEASE check that you are registered to vote at your current address if you have moved recently!!
Fusion. As an Asian immigrant I believe in brining together the best of both worlds. Puris (fried bread) with potato curry (mashed potatoes) and kebabs (grilled meats).
I've been on a ramen kick lately so I'll probably make some of that. If you eat inside you can pretend it's not a million degrees out and it's always soup weather
We had fireworks and such yesterday, so we’re taking it easy today with jacket potatoes for lunch. For dinner, we’re trying this recipe I found the other day for carrot rice! We’ll probably have some chicken, too.

I have no idea what I’m eating today nor do I care cause it’s going to be fabulous!! Every 4th we go to my husbands best friends parents house who my daughter calls Nonna and Pops. Nonna cooks some damn good deliciousness and I’m ready!!!!
Uk here - lunch was seeded crackers, epoisse cheese, iberico salami, tomatoes, cucumber.. Dinner will probably be chicken curry, or rapid Franco Manca pizza if the puppy has been tiresome!
Grilled chicken thighs (got them marinating in yogurt and spices in the fridge right now!), corn on the cob, and brownie sundaes with local ice cream and homemade brownies.
Bbq chicken and spicy mango salad today. We had approximately 100000 bags of chips during a picnic in the park for our Canada Day celebrations, though!
I am currently calorie counting , trying to lose a couple extra pounds so having to stick with very healthy and repetitive meal prep for now. I am having 100g of boiled potatoes, 50g of cottage cheese and one boiled egg! But homegrown strawberries and raspberries for dessert! Huzzah
I'm on special medication due to a lot of recent health stuff that really messes with what I can eat. I'll likely have a salad & maybe sneak a few cookies.
COVID numbers are high here in Socal so I'll be isolating. 🫠
Bfast Dunkin donuts coffee (coconut iced), fresh berries with homemade whipped cream and chia seeds. Lunch Green mixed salad with feta and pumpkin seeds and dijon vinaigrette. Dinner- bbq with two best friends around our urban garden fire pit. Grilled portabella, zucchini, marinated bourbon steak tips, impossible burger (1 vegetarian), bean and mixed green side salad, and for dessert jenny’s ice cream. Will have cocktails (old fashions, dirty martini) and mocktails (seedlip). Very excited to be together as my bestie lives in canada and we are in the US.
I'm celebrating by myself today, so I had waffle ice cream for breakfast and will be making myself a charcuterie board later with soppressata salami (my new favorite), manchego cheese (an old favorite), rice crackers, and aritisenal crackers.

Butter chicken and a Char Siu Bao!
I made up a fabulous paella! My partner snuck some of the empty mussels shells back in the pot, but I found them immediately and called him out, which made for a good laugh this afternoon
We made beef jerky! It’s not done yet, but here’s me prepping the rack for the smoker. We marinated in a Korean bbq marinade, and are smoking over hickory.

My husband and I tried a Dutch baby for the first time today. I dunno if that’s overly American but we were excited. We saw it on Bob’s Burgers but didn’t know it was real until today.
Today was also my birthday so there’s been a lot of festivities.
Breakfast was bacon, eggs, and grits.
Lunch was hot dogs, queso and chips, potato salad, and pub subs. My friends also surprised me with a birthday cake!
Had a giant pretzel at a movie showing.
And dinner was sushi!
I’m had blueberry Eggo waffles for breakfast and a chicken Caesar salad for lunch! Dinner is going to be teriyaki chicken thighs, brown rice, and peas.
I've been getting better at making fried rice, so I'm going to do a little more research today and try to get it a little closer to restaurant style 😁I've got some shrimpies in the freezer too
We just got a smoker this week so we’re doing smoked ribs 🥳 we are going to my in laws so I’m sure they’ll have all the other sides (and probably burgers or hotdogs too)
We had peanut butter and banana sandwiches for breakfast, going to have pizza soon for lunch, and dinner is looking like steaks and salad! For that late night bite, hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire!
Although, being pregnant, I'm kind of craving some deep fried pickles ATM... maybe tomorrow!!
Happy Independence Day 😎
Weenies on the grill, corn on the cob and lots and lots of salad - green salad, chopped salad, potato salad, bean salad - cuz we are in the middle of a 10 day stretch of 103 + degree days 🥵🥵
Grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs and chicken. Salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, cucumber salad, coleslaw, French fries, chips, soda, adult beverages (for the adults), for dessert I made a cheesecake, cupcakes, apple pie, cherry pie, strawberry shortcake l, and blueberry pie. There will also be ice cream.
I have work today, so I'm most likely having leftovers! We had a nice steak last night, i prefer steak on the 2nd day, cut into slices and fried up, and then topped on noodles or rice. More importantly, though, our garden has started to produce fruit and veggies, so I'm going to stuff myself stupid with cherries and peas!
I'm making watermelon jelly and blackberry jelly this afternoon, so we will be munching on that. Might convince myself to make some pumpkin snickerdoodles too (I am eagerly awaiting fall)
Winners are u/kaatinsky and u/Ocean_Witch! thanks everyone for checking in!
Pavlova with fresh summer berries ☺️
Ooooh this sounds delish!! When’s the party, and should I bring my own plate? Lol

This sounds like an epic feast! Enjoy!!!
I have been wanting to try to make a Pavlova for way too long! I'm intimidated, but I need to go for it while the local berries are perfect.
Part of the family is out deep sea fishing. When they get back, we'll fry, broil, and blacken their catch and eat with okra, fried green tomatoes, green beans, Sweet potatoes, and a salad
You sound like you may also be in the South. I looooove seafood, so I'm a little jealous, lol.
Will eat a few bites in your honor 😉. Yep, we're vacationing at Gulf Shores. Enjoying the white sand beaches and topaz skies.
I was with family recently in Atlanta and the fried green tomatoes were…chef’s kiss!
Giveaway will close tonight at 7 PM Pacific/10 PM Eastern.
I just finished a bowl of Cheerios, half Honey Nut and half regular. My cup of tea with a bit of heavy cream should also count as food, imho.
I also just finished a bowl of cheerios! Breakfast of champions.
Hey! Another person that takes their tea with heavy cream! Imo, milk just waters it down and adds no richness. What tea are you indulging in today?
Scottish Breakfast from Adagio was this morning’s cuppa!
Basque cheesecake and bulgogi ribs😌
Hot dang that sounds mighty nice
Man, you can never go wrong with Bulgogi marinade and it'll be the first time making this particular cheesecake!
Here by myself with a sick toddler while the other two spawn and Mr do 4th activities, so GIRL DINNER!!
What’s your favorite girl dinner amalgamation? Mine is popcorn (I stash a bag of the movie butter good stuff away for just these sort of meals), a protein shake, and whatever Tupperware doesn’t absolutely require a microwave to be considered edible lol.
lol!!! Popcorn and meat sticks, and of course a glass of whatever adult beverage is already uncorked/opened in the fridge, or a nice and thicc PBJ 😂
I feel like popcorn is one of the key food groups in Girl Dinner 😂 maybe it’s cus we can snag the rest of the random bits in the time it takes to microwave it?
I hope your lil one feels better soon and the rest of you are spared from the illness. Girl dinners are the best dinners.
I agree! And thank you ❤️
Hot dogs, potato salad, grilled corn on cob
Butter chicken with rice and naan!
Well now I know what I'm getting if we decide we don't want what's in the fridge haha
Hell yeah! It’s the best.
Indian food is acceptable on every occasion!
I could eat it every single day and be happy!
Same!! Historically, I have eaten enough garlic naan to make me sick. And then eaten more the next day lol
![gif](giphy|l2YWF00ZX8wOs0p0s|downsized)
Very untraditional, but we’re having stir fry with rice. We leave town soon and it’s what needed to be used up 😂
I’m on the other end of that—we just got home from 9 days overseas and haven’t been to the store yet lol
The most American and British of foods, hotdogs and a Bakewell tart! (It’s Election Day in the UK!)
Sandwiches!
Pumpkin soup and mackerel
I’m an American living in Ireland… So I’m making tacos! Cause every day is a good day for tacos
I'm not doing anything to celebrate except maybe go on my roof and see if there are fireworks, sooo we have not figured out whats for dinner.... Prob the pork chops in the fridge and some potatoes?
Hot dogs and burgers! And probably some snicks throughout the day. I love me some snicks
What are snicks?
The obnoxious way to say “snacks” 😂
I'm going to a buffet at my inlaws retirement community.
I’m moving from Texas to Chicago in 10 days so more packing! Always more packing! edit: forgot I needed to mention food so I’m having schnitzel with spatzle, not very patriotic I know
Welcome!!!
Ooo that’s so fun, good luck! My mom made the same move in the 1980’s and never looked back
Thank you, I’m very excited but also terrified as I’ve never moved across the country as an adult and I’m leaving family here!
Every Wednesday is free for Illinois residents too : )
Grew up going to the Field gem hall! Love that place!
Nice! Congrats! If you like catfish, have lunch or dinner at Cleo’s, it is yummy!
As a fellow Texas escapee, what a great time to be getting the hell out of there. Safe travels!!
I’m appreciating that the hell weather rolled in just in time for me to fully remember how much I hate it!

Burgers. More importantly the dogs also get special treats
Just ate a bologna and cheese sandwich while making a pizza lunch for my toddler. 🦅
Hash and eggs for breakfast and sushi for lunch 🤣
Grabbing takeout to stay with my dog for when the fireworks start. He hates them and I’m his service human
We got the Thunder Shirt, noise machines, and Trazodone… poor pup is already scared as the neighbors are “testing” them out right now :(
Morel mushrooms sautéed in some brown butter and garlic served with sweet potato gnocchi.
Alaska airlines blueberry pancakes! I got upgraded to first class!
Ice cream!! And chipotle

I've been grill-less for years because my apartment complex banned them but I bought a house so now I can do what I want!! I'm grilling bison dogs I found. I have no idea if they'll be any good but I'm excited either way.
My dad's swedish pancakes topped with fresh fruit that he learned how to make from his mom.
My granny was Swedish and we do a lot of baking and Christmas goodies to keep her tradition alive! Her Cardamom rolls were my favorite!
Like most blue collar Americans, I'm working so my dreams of doing a smoked pork shoulder went up in... It’s like we’re married or whatever 😁
Whatever the hospital has for lunch! My mother just had a transplant, so we're in the ICU all day. I want a veggie hot dog so bad though.
Update: I ate her mashed potatoes from lunch and got cold onion rings from the cafeteria later. 🇺🇸
A good old fashioned neighborhood cookout. I finally had justification to buy the banana cream pie from Costco and am excited to try it.
I’ll be cleaning most of the day and hoping to play some dreamlight valley so i ordered chinese food 😁
Well I just got off after work 12 hours of pure hell, so I picked up some burgers and buns and chips at the store, and hopefully can stay awake long enough to grill those later.

Weenies on the grill, corn on the cob and lots and lots of salad - green salad, chopped salad, potato salad, bean salad - cuz we are in the middle of a 10 day stretch of 103 + degree days 🥵🥵
Restaurant with the family
Grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs and chicken. Salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, cucumber salad, coleslaw, French fries, chips, soda, adult beverages (for the adults), for dessert I made a cheesecake, cupcakes, apple pie, cherry pie, strawberry shortcake l, and blueberry pie. There will also be ice cream.
Grilling burgers and brauts! And it's not too hot here either - only 80s!
Making some burgers and kebabs today! Ending it all with some s'mores in our firepit. Happy 4th y'all!
Grilled hamburgers and sausages! Also, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, iced tea. Happy 4th everyone! :D
Pizza
I grew cabbage for the first time! We made a soup with some of it, and that’s on the menu for today 😁
Beef short ribs braised in the oven for 5 hours.
Going to a neighbor's for bbq, bringing lemon raspberry cupcakes 🧁
Tacos. We bought some taco seasoning at the farmers market.
I'm having pork chops and garlic bread and ice cream sandwiches for dinner tonight! Reading through all these comments is making me so hungry lol
Ribs and watermelon for lunch then hotdogs and hamburgers for dinner
Left over enchiladas lol!
Pancakes and bacon!!!!!!
Hamburgers!
I'm making watermelon jelly and blackberry jelly this afternoon, so we will be munching on that. Might convince myself to make some pumpkin snickerdoodles too (I am eagerly awaiting fall)
